I unfortunately had my first car accident today, got hit on my rear left side (near gas cap) by a a driver who was changing lanes. I was getting out of a sub-road into a main road, when I got out, I didn't see that a car was changing its lane and coming onto mine. It crashed into me. :indiff:

I have been rear ended a few times, but I don't count those as accidents because they weren't my fault. This one happened so fast I still don't know exactly what happened, I was just slightly shaking from the adrenaline rush after.

Thing I learned, driving while being sleep deprived and sun draining your energy is BAD.

Hopefully this thread doesn't bring out any sensitive memories to people. :scared:

Mine was a doozy!
Was night time, construction being done to the highway (no workers as it was like 10pm). Strayed a little too close to the shoulder, there was an unseen 4-6" drop between the asphalt and the now gravel shoulder. Car was pulled nearly into the ditch, I (over)corrected to the left, had to bring it right again but by that time the car was so unstable that I ended up in the right hand ditch, rolled twice, and came to a rest on the passenger side door. I had to push my door up and climb out... thankfully unhurt. The next day I went and saw the car... the roof was caved in like a V.

It was a slightly damp morning, I had to take a Porsche for a spin, after a long stretch of straight road, there was a slight curve, I steered into the curve, I heard something snap at the right front wheel, the car turned onto the grass, spun around. It hit a light post with the driver side door, I kept on spinning through a fence, and a couple of bushes..
The door had buckled in about 40 cm, lifted my chair up towards the stick..

I had a big blue dot on my right thigh, where I had hit the stick, the left side of my body was completely black and blue, but I walked away. The Porsche was gone.

Went to the hospital, where they had to take out a couple of shards of glass from my head. Small pieces. And after 2 weeks my ear started to bleed, I went back to the hospital, and they found a couple of pieces of glass in my ear.

When we looked at the car what had happened, it turned out that the steering ball joint broke in half...

And a pic of the fence I took with me!

1994, high school parking lot, 1982 Oldsmobile Omega, rear drivers side door hit, I wasn't in the vehicle.

1998, parked on the street in front of a friends house, 1992 Chevy Blazer, backed into by the moving truck, I wasn't in the vehicle.

1998, parked at work, same 1992 Chevy Blazer, huge pile of snow slid off the building's roof, denting the hood, I wasn't in the vehicle.

All in all, not a bad track record for 19 years of driving. Means I'm about due... :scared:

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that all of these 'accidents' happened when the driver wasn't in the vehicle and the vehicle was parked?

'Tis an interesting fact, isn't it?

It happened in 2008, I wasn't driving but I was sat in the back of a minibus (It was a 2006 Ford Transit) with 14 other people in it. We were on the motorway driving from my school to the Scottish Highlands, and we were in the middle lane overtaking some slower traffic, but the whole motorway was quite congested so we were travelling at around 60mph.

We had just overtaken a lorry and were in the process overtaking a Ford Mondeo, but the woman driving the Mondeo fell asleep at the wheel and drifted into the middle lane and tagged the rear end of our bus. We felt the impact in the Transit but it wasn't that big a shunt.
The Mondeo wasn't as lucky, the Woman woke up just after she hit us and turned the wheel as hard as she could away from us. She was travelling at around 55mph so the back end stepped out in an instant and the car was out of control. It spun out and very very nearly went under the rear wheels of the lorry we had just overtaken, but the front of the Ford impacted with the side wall of the rear wheels.

All the traffic started slowing down and a few cars hit the spinning Ford, I think 5 vehicles, including our mini bus plus the lorry were involved. Everyone was okay, the driver of the Mondeo had pretty bad whiplash and was suffering from shock but was otherwise okay. I think there were 2 write offs in the end. And the only damage on the minibus was cosmetic really.

Fortunately that's the only crash I have ever experienced, I myself have been driving for nearly 2 years now and not crashed....touch wood.

I remember 2 times so far (got my license 5 month ago) first one I was still learning the width of the car, street was narrow Taxi instead of waiting for me to pass decided to come at me and I ended up scratching a parked car ,second time a motorcycle was at the far right lane and being very Egyptian didn't turn right and me the 2nd furthest from the right lane turned didn't see him he hit me,was a small hit anyway.

I think i'm the best driver here 2 slight accidents in 1 and a half years in Egypt (which is worse than India if you seen the top gear special)is indeed a remarkable achievment

Was travelling with my mother and sister to a summer camp when less than half a mile from our destination, a horse jumped out onto the road and we struck it.
The horse went right over the roof and landed a few feet behind us. Luckily we were in an Opel Zafira so the roof was higher and saved injury. The car was written off, the horse put down and I was brought in for a check up when the seat belt caught on my neck.

We were surprisingly lucky in hindsight as we almost took our Subaru Vivio and in a head on collision with a horse, things could have been so different.

Only one was when i was learning to drive which was when I was 16.

I was in the most left lane and some idiot in the right pulled out cause he didn't want to wait for the car in front of him to turn, but the guy pulled out quickly with no blinker so i slam the brakes and end up getting rear ended by some idiot in a pick up who has the nerve to say you shouldn't brake so hard my car can't stop like your little car.

I let my dad deal with the insurance details but he was tailgating a learner driver which is something that should never be done.

Actually I've seen a driver who was tired drive on the highway yesterday. He was weaving left to right and not realizing that he crossed over the lane lines. When I pass by him I saw what looked like a horrible yawning with 10 thousand fat layers under his chin(Ok that's not true. That's just for comedic effect).

As for a car accident.. not really, other than driving off to the side of the road into a iced snow pile but that was just me being stupid with the GPS at the time to find a gas station(I was scared of running out of gas). It's been 2 years since then and no problems with accidents.

Haha I know what you mean mate! I've been to Cairo twice now and all day everyday there are accidents

Anyways, I was driving here in Australia, only my 3rd month or so driving right hand drive. Went to the mall, hit the post while trying to park which wasn't too bad except for the fact that the post was bright red and my car is white  then on the same day I scraped the curb quite badly while trying to leave the parking lot. Really really unlucky day for me that day. Nothing has happened since and I'm still clean with left hand drive :D

First ROAD car accident was my fault, going too fast in wet conditions, nice tight corner, got on the painted white lines and smacked the curb pretty hard. Enough to see my hubcap fly off and nearly take out some joggers....drove on it for about 500m got out to see the wheel had now had about 15 deg of positive camber on the wheel. Was still drivable so wasn't so bad only $700 to fix complete with new tyre.

First RACE car accident was a doozy, basically it was either T-bone the other driver or go up the bank, got sucked into the bank and ended up in a gentle roll, landing on my wheels. Ruined my $2000 metal flake paint job and the top wing. Removed the wing and raced again the next day.

The week before my license test, trying to be an idiot Initial D wannabe in the Miata that would've become mine. My family lived in the hills, the car was my dad's old daily driver that I'd fixed up, and I was convinced of my own ability after years of GT. My friend, who was into canyon driving, came over with his Supra, and I decided I could take the Miata and follow him to a nearby road, which was twisty and had no houses on it, and was only a stop sign away, right in my neighborhood. I tried to keep up with my friend, oversteered out of a corner, tried to countersteer, overcorrected, and flew right into a wooden retaining wall. Car was totalled, I had a pretty bad concussion from the airbag, and man was I in trouble!

I wonder what would've happened had I not wrecked that car...

I was 18, it was dark, pulled out of a restaurant like normal on to the road, then BAM!. I get rear ended. The guy was driving without his headlights on so I had no way to see him.

Was he driving with his eyes closed cause he should have seen your tail lights.

In the back seat of my Moms CR-V when I was about 10-12.
We were turning onto our road, (And had another 100 metres to go before our house.) and some guy was on cell phone and rear ended us. I was crying and pissed because I had no idea what just happened, and then I was pissed at the guy for crashing into us.
The car was almost totaled from an insurance standpoint, but it was kind of new, so they fixed it up.
The right rear window doesn't work half the time when controlled from the driver, and the rear hatch light is iffy.

Got T-boned in my kart and did several barrel roles.
I fell out when I was upside down and rolled I guess, but I was up almost after. (I thinnk that I rolled onto my feet. :D)
My parents were freaked at first, especially Mom, but they could see I was fine afterwards. VERY surprisingly, the kart had absolutely no damage apart from the air filter. Normally those things would be bent into a pretzel after a flip.

More minor kart crashes.

Fell on road with dirtbike several months ago and took a chunk out of my knee, it still looks awful.

Well I pulled out pretty much right in front of him so he didn't have much time to stop. It was a 16 year old in his mom's car, didn't really know what he was doing.

I've never crashed my own car but I have been in an accident while my brother was driving. We were driving home from somewhere (I can't recall now, it's been quite a while) and were making a left turn onto the main highway. As we were turning the car (E30 3 series, nice little car) lost power (O2 sensor I believe) so my brother gave it more throttle. As he did that the rear end stepped out, he slammed the throttle down and we somehow ended up in the oncoming lane. We hot an SUV going about 40mph and the only thing I really remember is seeing the SUV coming, blinking and when I opened my eyes I was on the hood with blood covering my face.

I wasn't wearing my seat belt so I went through the windshield, broke my nose, had glass all over my face, hair and eyes (I had shoulder length hair at the time, so it was quite annoying) but other than that it wasn't bad. The SUV driver said his was a rental with insurance so he wasn't upset in the slightest but my brother was pretty shaken up.

The paramedics set my nose on the scene as I refused to be transported to the hospital and I went home, had a headache for a few hours and ever now and then some glass will still work it's way out of my nose and forehead even this many years later. Kind of odd and pretty painful when the pieces come out.

Why were his lights off in the first place?

Witnesses said he had his lights off for miles, and they were flashing at him to turn them on. Like Grayfox said, he was an idiot.

Never when I was driving, luckily. I've been rear ended a few times as a passenger though.

The last time it happened we were in a '93 Jeep Wrangler, some guy in a Civic hit us and his front bumper was hanging off of our trailer hitch, not a scratch on our car anywhere. Could've driven away with a bumper.

Twas about 2 months ago. I was heading out to the indoor kart track to meet up with some friends. I was turning from a turn lane onto the northbound lanes. At the same time a guy was pulling out of a parking lot intending to cross the northbound lanes and the median, and merge with the southbound lanes. He crossed the southbound lanes, but didn't see that he was crossing my path. He ran into my right front wheel. In the immediate aftermath he tried to blame me. But it was 100% his fault. On top of that he was driving with a suspended license.

I've never really been in accident except for my first time driving stick (many years ago) I don't know what happened but I hit a tree head on at about 2 km/h. I think I was looking at something inside the car, It was parked and I didn't pull the hand brake (I guess).

My first car crash was when I was 13.

My mum & I were driving to the mall when a driver pulled out from a side road and T boned us. Mum lost control of the car and we hit a tree at around 50 km/h.

Luckily Mum & Myself were not injured, but we were a little 'shaken up' about the crash.

To make things worse, it was my first day of highschool :scared:

Never been in one, yet. *touches wood*

Me neither, *knock on wood*. Was close when my mom asked me if I wanted to go somewhere with her and I said no, and she ended up getting in a crash in a parking lot where a drunk pulled out in to her passenger side door while she was looking for a space, caved the whole door in. So that was close if I were sitting there...
