After seeming going into hiding for nearly 3 years, the Joss supercar has had some light shone upon it!

Funding sought for Aussie supercar

Barry Park, The Age, 14/12/06

A $2 million-plus Ferrari-beating supercar prototype built in a Warragul workshop will soon be on the market for as little as $180,000.

This Warragul-built Joss Supercar prototype is for sale to $180,000-plus buyers.

Matt Thomas - designer, builder and owner of the Joss Supercar - plans to sell the prototype to raise enough money to bring the car into production.
However, the buyer will probably never get a chance to show off their new toy. The prototype does not meet Australian design hurdles and cannot be driven on public roads.
The production model is expected to cost $450,000-$500,000.
Mr Thomas has struggled for years to bring the Joss to Australian roads. However, he says he has exhausted all efforts to raise money here and will head to Europe later this month to seek new backers.
"Basically, there's no investment (here)," he says. "We've tried quite a few things in Australia. People showed good interest but when it came time to hand the money over, it all disappeared. What we showed at the Melbourne motor show (in 2004) was just our test vehicle, and to get to the next level to get to production standard would cost quite a lot. In the end, we had a lot of global supporters but no money."
Part of Mr Thomas' plans while in Europe is to build interest in a Le Mans racer, a version of the Joss that will be built for the annual 24-hour endurance event.
"We should be able to get a lot more sponsorship and support from something like that."
Once a financial backer has been found, Joss production cars will be first offered to those who placed an order. The production car was planned to have a Melbourne-built 6.8-litre fuel-injected alloy V8 turning out about 350 kW and 650 Nm, which should push the Joss from 0-100 km/h in about three seconds. But Mr Thomas says he has three potential engine suppliers and a decision will not be made until financing is secured.
In testing several years ago at Calder Park Raceway, the prototype's 6.1-litre engine demonstrated it could push the Joss' 940 kg from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

This is good news for me, I hope to see it hit our roads in the near future as all we're waiting on now is the Redback spyder...
