Where does the PS3 save the downloaded files for game patches?

Earlier today I was installing GT5 on my new PS3 Slim but while I was downloading the 1.05 update for the game my brother accidentally unplugged our router. The connection was lost and the download was interrupted at 84%. After getting a connection error code I quit and restarted the game but the 1.05 patch download had to start over from 0%. No big deal besides some extra wait.

Now I just wonder what happend to the 84% I managed to download of the patch in my first attempt? Is this unfinished download of the patch file saved somewhere on my PS3 now or how does the system handle this?

I'm sure the PS3 deletes it anyways.

If the update is correctly downloaded, it seems to be added to the games existing install in the Game Data Utility. You can't recover the 84% the PS3 downloaded...
