Where is the damage?

Has anyone actually seen any damage to the cars yet? I took a Mustang round the track, smashing it about like crazy, top speed into barriers, head on collisions by going the wrong way etc and there wasn't a scratch!

Is there a setting I need to turn on to enable damage? What is going on here? Do ALL cars have damage or if not, which ones do and which ones don't?

You want to be carefull deliberately smashing your car in the GT Life mode, the damage levels increase as you level up but smashing into things will increase the cost of the chassis and engine restoration options when you need them. I'm at level 10 and I see damage on my cars in races, nothing mechanical yet though.

+1
man im glad damage is limited at these low levels. Low funds and getting used to the game in general would have had me cash farming just to put my damaged car back to racing.

I dont fully understand! "THE REAL DRIVING SIMULATOR" I think driving a car into a wall at 170 mph should at least crack the lense on my premium murcielago, if i scrape my car up against a wall i want scratches down the side, i want to see cracked bumpers too im at level 13 now and the damage is crap! I love the idea of paying for damage but i want to see the damage too, ive been playing forza 3 for a while now and the damage is spot on, i dont know what grand tourismo are so scared of, if i crash my car into a wall head on at 100 mph i want the game to say game over your dead!. And have to start the game again. They should have a option like forza with damage levels, eg cosmetic, and full damage.

I'm guessing you didn't play GT in 1997, that also had "The Real Driving Simulator" written along the case. You can't really use it in an argument.

Sorry dude but level 13 is still rookie status, im sure you will soon get what you wish for. patience

I am level 13.

I was driving the RX-7 in Amateur Series, Japanese 90's Challenge, Cape Ring North. I smashed once into the wall and got far more damage than I ever managed to get in practice mode on Tokyo R246.

At first I assumed I reached the magical level where damage is finally turned up, so I go back to Tokyo R246 in practice mode to try it, and... nothing. I'm back to making the car look like it just got a little dirt on it.

So I try Cape Ring North in practice mode, and who would have thought: damage is back!

So it seems like damage is also dependent on what track you are racing on... Has anyone else noticed this?

I have played every gt game to date and have enjoyed them all just thought that the time they have taken making this one they would have nailed the damage thing. All i want is realistic damage is that not what we all want?. What level do things start getting realistic.

I noticed that too, on one of the series races my car got a slight crumpled bonet so i repaired it! And tried on the same track the R246 and nothing no damage at all so i think u could be right that damage is ltd to the track that your on!. Very realistic!

Thanks shazui u have given me reason to live! Do u know if there are any videos of this said damage apart from the official videos, i saw one where a tyre blows out but thats about it, i want to see a wheel come off and crack a spectator in the head!

Dont wanna sound dim, but how to i get to play gran turismo 5 online, i went to community in the main menu it loaded and i thought i was in but there was no one there, can anyone help

Good point actually Dave. There I was smashing my Stang off every wall/car I could find and I completely overlooked the fact that it cost me about 60,000 Cr and would probably need repaired!

Back in 1997 it was also the most realistic race sim..... Not the case no more so they should take that off the cover

I too have smashed p the Focus WRC in arcade mode - managed to get the door to fall off. I am level 16. In my view the damage is increasingly incrementally with levels but the entire model is till present for the start. I have got a lot of damage on a 179 Corvette Convertible it just takes a huge amount of hits - (results in increased rigidity bill). As you level up the amount of damage per impact is greater. That said the damage model is certainly a bit disappointing. Oh and no sign of any mechanical damage yet
