GTPlanet, I've been looking for the day when I'd return to the Internet. But unfortunately, someone hijacked my AOL account and had to sit out for a long time to try to get it back up and running. For now though, I'm fine. This just means that I have a WHOLE lot of pre-typed threads and replies for topics I probably should have posted for quite some time. As for right now, this goes a lesson- the Internet can be a place where one computer connects a person to the world, but also a place in which that world can be just as treacherous as the world we live in offline.

This was a great shame. I looked into my Sent E-Mail, and I noticed 50+ people that I don't know in which someone completely used my E-mail (much less figure out my password), then just got ME in trouble and not to mention the other screennames to the master account. If ever you get involved in a situation like this where you know you're not at fault and someone else shafts you offline, GET IN THE ISP'S/SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR'S FACE AOBUT THIS!!! Seek justice over whomever put you in the dark.

As a proud member of the GTPlanet family, I am glad to be back after the idoitic things I've had to endure since last Sunday. Hijacking sucks ass, and I've somehow fell victim. This was completely unacceptable and pushing to hope this never happens again.

And that's what's happened to me, a usual daily poster, since last week.

This is why you should create the most insane passwords ever, like me.

'me'? That's not a very difficult password at all... :p

Sorry to hear about your predicaments, JohnBM01... hopefully no lasting harm has been done... interesting to hear that you compose your long, detailed posts off-line and post them later... so that's your secret? ;)

I guess your on-line identity is like a possession that needs to be looked after/protected, but you will always get people who are willing to take advantage... I nearly got into some serious trouble when I first started working here in London. Our IT department was approached by a company from the US who had been hacked, and the IP address was traced back to my computer! I couldn't believe it (especially given the fact that the computer was a Silicon Graphics O2 workstation that I could barely even work)... it turned out that someone had hacked into our system and used my computer somehow... I have no idea how, but to cover their own tracks, they deleted many system files that meant I lost a piece of very valuable software :grumpy: ... but if I had been a bit more computer-literate at the time, it may have cost me more than just that...

Unfortunately, nothing can stop the existance of buttholes. Not even doom music.

Hey bad luck John, I had noticed you hadn't posted for a while in a few threads you normally would have.

Hm.... I seem to have figured out your problem... AOL.

Just kidding, man (Well, sort of). Great to see you back.

Thanks to everyone who posted. And yes, pre-typing many of my posts is sort of my secret. Chances are, I could be posting something for a thread, then WordPad or the computer just freezes up and doesn't work.

Anyhow, I am prepared to take action against whomever did this to me. Hell hath no fury than John ready to fight back! You dig a brother? This didn't have to happen to me. This didn't have to happen to anyone. Why me? Why last weekend? Over eight or nine years on AOL, and this is the first time I've been hijacked online. Now I'm doing something about it after it happens to me. There's a first time for everything, and certainly a last action to hope wrong never happens again (at least for a long time).

[UPDATE]
Oh, and a lot of posts I wanted to make and threads I wanted to make, I'm working on them right now. This is recovery time for me on GTP.

I might have to start doing this for my longer posts - the amount of times i've typed a long, thoughtful post and my machines crashed or locked up  - instead of re-typing i usually just think 'sod it' and don't bother posting anything at all.

I used to type offline, but only for articles... haven't had to do that for... months...

Welcome back John... glad to hear you managed to get back in.

Welcome back John!

And coincidentally, my brother's email account was hacked also. By someone who loves him. Who my brother hates. She sent a whole bunch of IM to my brother's friends and called them many derogitory (sp?) words. All because my bro won't love her. You'd think there would be better things to do than trying to alienate friends...that's why I changed my hotmail password to something that has letters, numbers and symbols. And its 12 characters long.
