It's all very strange. A few years ago, GT was Sony's largest gaming franchise.

Today, GT is despised. Sony is indifferent to the game.

At E3 2017 GT did not receive attention. Just a simple little panel of a few minutes. Only.

In PSX 2017, GT did not even have a special panel. He received no media attention. Did not receive attention from Sony.

Even games already released, like Horizon Zero Dawn had attention and was prestigious.

GTS, which is a game under construction, should receive attention, even to help in sales.

What is happening?

The relationship between Sony and Polyphony is worn out? Sony lost confidence in Yamauchi? It would be a kind of veiled boycott?

Yoshida once said that car games are without popular appeal. Wrong!

Mic gives full attention to the games of the Forza franchise. At fairs and conferences, Forza is always being touted as one of Mic's top games. They are selling well and succeeding.

Is weird.

While I can't comment on everything, Horizon just put out a new DLC pack, which is probably why it's being pushed at the moment.

In regards to Forza, Microsoft are indeed pushing it hard, mostly because of the fact that they just launched a brand new console (Xbox One X), of which Forza is one of the very few (maybe only?) first party titles to take advantage of the increased power.

Back when Renault was constantly winning in the F1, they only made news when they lost. It turned out F1 had gone from a great way to promote the company to a terrible way to promote the company, because everyone only spoke of the failures.

GTS is likely in the same boat. No game reviewer is going to look at this and give it praise in the light of the past iterations. Rightfully so? I don't know. I am far more addicted to GTS than I have been to any other GT before it, and that's saying a lot. I thought I put FAR too much time into GT6 but I am on pace to do way more on GTS. The bullet points, if you will (cars, tracks, etc) don't seem to matter compared to he direction change. Sill, in print, it's all bad news.

GT Sport wasn't at PSX for the same reason it has 200 cars instead of 2,500? What's the reason then?
Also we don't have 200 cars.
Also we never had 2,500 cars.
That's such an exaggeration, its not even funny.
If we actually got that many, how would you even go about trying all of those cars?
Its not impossible, but it would be very time consuming.

From what I see these gaming shows are about new stuff, be it DLC or new games, especially announcing games that are coming over the next year or so.

GTS is already out there, the single player DLC not released yet.

I don't think driving games are all that popular nowadays, look at stuff like the last of us, GTA, bloodborne, the COD series etc.

Where is this bizarre garbage false narrative coming from? I see it often on this forum from rage posts about the game direction being changed.

Almost every GT: Sport review I've read acknowledges that the game design needed modernizing, and that the reset button is appreciated. Reviews dock points for less cars and a pitiful selection of tracks, but characterizing media sentiment of the game as negative is disingenuous.

Indeed, the vast majority of the review focused on the following key points:

  • New direction is a plus (for some - but maybe not for all)
  • Matchmaking works well
  • Car and track count is low not just by GT standards, but in comparison to the current state of the genre
  • Single player element is tiny in comparison to past titles
  • It looks bloody amazing and the sounds have improved.
That to my mind sums up the vast majority of the reviews and is a pretty fair and honest assessment of the title, with the average score being around the 7.5 mark, which again is fair give the above.

The reviews were not negative, but did question how the audience would receive the changes that had occurred to the long held GT norm, which again is to my mind a very fair question to raise.

Maybe GT Sport was not present at PlayStation Experience because it has been released. The show is to highlight new titles yet to come out.

Just an idea...

Horizon Zero Dawn just received a DLC paid pack, I believe. GT Sport until now is giving us free DLC content. Just an educated guess they are promoting the product with more payout.
Polyphony is owned by Sony, not a "relationship".

I'm pretty sure the complains about the game aren't about not having 30 Miatas, Sylvias, Skylines, RX7s, etc.
PD is putting some in the next big update.

GT Sport was on the show floor at PSX with dozens of standard and VR units.

GT Sport is the pack-in title for Sony's $199 PSVR Christmas push in the US.

GT Sport is packed in with most official PS4 bundles in Europe.

GT Sport had a comprehensive PS Blog post detailing future DLC prior to the big Black Friday shopping week.

PSX only featured 1st party panels for Dreams, Ghosts of Tsushima, Last of Us 2 and an Uncharted series retrospective.

Since the lead up to GT5 it's been quite poor. I just don't expect anything GT at these types of shows now, just show floor stuff at relevant times. Also the releases haven't been that worthy of a big show. GT6 releasing on PS3 after the PS4 launch and GTS is 4 years into PS4 and very light on content.

GTSport was present on EGX with nice stand an long queues to the rigs. Just about month or two before the release date.
Now it's released and everybody aware of their plans about expanding SP content end exact plans up till March. So, where is the reason to exhibit it now?

Not so many people were queuing for PC2 and FM7 even when they had significantly less rigs btw.

It kinda makes you wonder since Sony has at least 3 IP that sell in the 10 million range now. Until last gen GTwas their only IP that did those kinda numbers.

I would love to have a GT Sport panel at PSX, it's always fun to watch Kaz get in detail about the games he creates.

I guess Polyphony are too busy trying to get the update ready before Christmas?
Don't really see any other reason why they don't get their own panel, really talented people at Polyphony.

Also, Forza is practically the only thing Microsoft has to promote. They're dead in the water for exclusives lately.
