Are the biggest regrets the ones where you regret doing something or not doing something.

For example:

Do regret buying a specific car, or not buying a specific car when you had the chance?

Do you regret saying something in an argument or not saying something in an argument when you should have?

Do you regret studying what you did, or not studying something else?

I would have to say the biggest regret would be the things I did not do. Because once you miss out on a chance, you may never get that chance again. I can think of countless things I wish I had done but didint.

Where as, looking back on the not so smart things I have done. I still regret doing some of them, but I can live with those decisions.

It's rare that inaction harms a third party, whereas it is common for action to harm a third party. Therefore the regret from doing something bad should be greater than from not doing something.

:dopey: I regret not taking off my friends $40 trunk bike rack because some 🤬 wipe couldn't go out in buy one but decided to steal mine.

Sometimes I regret something I did like buying something I'll just throw away again in a few weeks but most of the time I regret not doing something.

I'm always going to do something as an alternative to what I would have done, so if I had any regrets they would be caused by both doing & not doing certain things.

But thats not considering making a decision that only affects your life. For instance, one might decide to no travel the world in their youth, only to find circumstances dont permit it later on in life. The opportunity is lost, due to inaction.

While rationally I agree with Giles, my biggest regrets are from times when I did not do something I could have done, and did not like what happened as a result.

Yes, it could be not doing something to help a third party versus doing something to help a third party.

"It is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all."

"Do or do not, that is the question" - the answer is DO! Do everything once. You'll be a better person for it.

not getting into church at a younger age and waiting 18 years to get saved

I would have to disagree with that. Unless you did things during those first 18 years that you now regret (highly unlikely), you actually have experiences you may not have had otherwise. And God isn't so particular about when you chose to acknowledge him, but rather that you did.

And congrats.

I said "didn't do something" because i can think of more times in my life where inaction has caused me more problems than action. For instance i wish i had done more for my girlfriend when we were together, i wish i wasn't such a procrastinator and i generally regret saying things in an argument less than the things i didn't say.
I quite like the procrastinator thought though, kind of sums it up quite nicely for me as procrastination is inaction and i almost irrevocably suffer for it.

actually loudmusic, there are things that i do regret doing and not doing before that happened (funny that it happened the last day of high school that night)

I don't have many major regrets, but the ones I do generally stem from a failure to act, more often than not.

Not doing something, because if you did something you wish you hadn't, you gain experience and you know what happened so you can judge future decisions better. If you don't do something, you will always wonder what life could be like if you had done that. I am going through that right now... :indiff:

I wish I had done more. I'm a huge procrastinator, but it has always worked out for me. Sometimes I know I should do something but I just lose the nerve and end up regretting not acting on it.

I voted the first option, and then immediately changed my mind. Maybe that proves it?

I changed my mind though, because I realized that my biggest regret is not doing as well as I could have in high school, which would qualify as the second option.

I regret not doing something then losing the chance, if I do something and it screws up my life at least I gave it a go, when I was younger there were many things I didn't do because I lost my nerve, now I regret that so much.

Spending too much time in the sun when younger. That booze problem wasn't such a great idea either. But, other than that, I'm fine.

Gee, it sucks passing up the opportunity to buy a different pair of sunglasses, doesn't it?
