Which steering wheel (with paddle shift)?

I just received the X2010 this evening and, upon taking it for a spin (in the truest sense of the word) around Monza, Suzuka and Nurburgring GP, I have decided it's time to get a steering wheel.

Is there one within the average man's price range that has paddle shift gears? Or could you just recommend me a good one, which is the most popular etc?
 
I'd say get a DFGT but they're very hard to find right now, other than that go for a Fanatec 911 carrera for 160 euros (+20euros for clubsport paddles) + 17 euros shipping.

Haven't tried things like the thrustmaster F430..
 
Are there any high street (or otherwise) shops that I can walk into and purchase a wheel? I'd rather do that than have to pay over the 'net and wait for a couple of weeks...
 
The GameStop around here has a ton of DFGT in stock. Not sure if you have GameStops in Ireland though.
 
The DFGT or DF Pro are the best starter wheels out there, in my opinion. You may want to try one out first, because the paddle shifter are more like little buttons than actual paddles.
 
Not with the Fanatec, no..

I'm in the UK so I have no idea what NI's dfgt stock levels are like.. Your best bet is to get googling mate :)

At 'reasonable' price levels, there really isn't much to choose from that's decent.. Personally, I'd say the dfgt is the minimum you should aim for.

i was lucky enough to get a DFGT at my local game stop, $129USD. really feels like a great wheel. seems pretty indestructable and has no dead spots in the middle, very responsive all around. also, loving the in game traction control. makes it easier to get used to the wheel and just keep putting laps down, instead of messing with setups and such.

disclaimer; please be warned though, it takes LOTS of time to get used to. i had never played with a wheel through any of the previous GT games and leveled up to 25 in GT5, got the wheel, and feel like a n00b again. its frustrating at first, but becomes alot of fun after some getting used to. im only around 15 hours or so onto mine and still have a LOOOOOOOOOT of room for improvement.

Very true. A lot of people get a wheel for the first time and hate it.
You have to give yourself time to get used to it before you can start challenging and beating your pad times.

That's the problem. My DFGT has started switching itself off after 30-60mins and I've only had it a month. (had an MS wheel for two years with no problems lol).
I'd get it replaced but nobody has any in stock right now..
 
I'm also after a DFGT but cant find one anywhere. Even game have told me they are sold out country wide. Temped to just go for a g27, or save a few guid and get a g25.. Are they worth the extra over the dfgt?
 
Just got the DFGT and I'm not overly impressed. It certainly isn't like the real thing. Been playing since the first GT, and I'm much more confident with the controller...but after some adjusting the wheel might be a lot of fun though ;)
 
I would say DFGT even though i'm selling mine to make way for a G27 pretty soon.

I have a Driving Force Pro, I've punched the middle of it twice during my attemnpt to Gold Suzuka, still survives.
Had it for over 3 years.
You'll have to get it online though.
 
Do you play Forza as well? If you are like me and also have an xbox 360, get the Fanatec GT2 with clubsport pedals. Only wheel that works on both platforms. Otherwise, I think you will be happy with the DFGT. I used my DFP for years, and it served me well.

Seems like you are making a false economy of time, here.

I'd say DFGT, as there are only two supported wheels, and the other one is three times the price (or more). Mine is solid.

But remember this. Don't compare your DFGT times with the times you get NOW for a pad... compare them to times you got when you first PLAYED with a pad! That way, you'll see a HUGE improvement from the very first time you play with the wheel... It's not fair to expect something you just got to be as good as something you've been honing and perfecting for ages.

If you drive a real car, you'll certainly get more immersed in the realism of a wheel. If you haven't yet... do us all a favor, and learn to drive clean in the game! You'll be a better driver for it once you get a real car!
 
My advise is to have a think if you want to use the wheel only for GT5 or that in the coming 10+ years you might wanna use it for other racing games as well. Don't know how muhc your involved in online racing etc. Maybe even sim racing games on the PC or whatever.

Then do go for the Club sport Pedals from Fanatec as they are the best thing you can get for your money. There is no equal for there price by a logn shot.
As for the wheel the Fanatec GT3 RS v2 from Fanatec gets my vote. I used to have a Logitech Momo, a G25 and tried the G27. Now that I got the Fanatec wheel I would never wanna go back as it is so much better in terms of adjustablity and FFB.

My 2 cents. Just think about it in the long term and make a proper investment.
 
im getting a Thurstmaster Ferrari Gt Experience wheel, read reveiws and it seem pretty good, and for £28 form amazon you cant go wrong!

Yeah I appreciate it'll be difficult to begin with when I get my wheel, but I'm a patient man. I used to use buttons + D pad with automatic gears and was quite good at it. Then I switched to analogue sticks but still automatic gears and, again, got quite proficient at that. Then after buying the GT4 guide book (from Piggyback) I switched to manual gears using the analogue sticks and my driving moved into a different league.

All these changes took a lot of patience, practice and time. So I am more than prepared to do the same when I switch to using a wheel.

I do drive in real life, thankfully, and have done for almost 14 years so it won't be alien to me.

From what I'm seeing online, I will have to wait quite some time for a wheel regardless of where I get it. Ah well...

If you want to order it online, Dabs and Scan.co.uk say they'll have stock in, in 5-7 days. They're usually fairly accurate with their stock supplies, in my experience.
 
Try local shops and see if they still have a G25 lying around. I picked one up from some tiny store for very cheap
 
man, wish some of you that have been looking for a while lived on my side of the pond. theyre in stock all over the place here. i only had to drive half a mile (1km?) for my DFGT.


and before its asked, no.. sorry. too much work involved in buying one here and sending it over to you.
 
Strictly rumor-milling this, but has anyone considered that the reason DFGT's are in low supply is that perhaps Logitech are ramping up production for a new wheel to compete with the Thrustmaster, and return functionality to the line that the G27 is missing?

I have heard nothing, of course, strictly off the top of my head, but it seems strange for DFGT's to be in such short supply when Logitech knew that demand would peak in the new year after GT5's release...

Yeah, there's a 2-3 page thread about it on the logitech forums but so far no-one from logitech has stepped in to confirm or deny.
 
DFGT defiantly, but it does take practice, when i first got mine for GT5-P, i hopped in a Clio floored it, left-foot braked and spun, after some time in a hatch, i got the hang of it and now i feel like a driving boss when i do a really quick lap time :P
 
Dfgt is all over eBay being sold by people who bought it a year ago in anticipation of gt5 release and have barely used it. These people have recently upgraded to g27 or fanatec.
You should be able to find a lightly used one for under $100

I would much prefer a new one (warranty etc), but I may go down the eBay route if all else fails.
 
have been looking for dfgt for ever, but fund one on gamezone here inn norway. I will have it home by tommorrow. I hope its good.
