How do you like your drift cars? Do you prefer high BHP low grip monsters that are nearly impossible to drive or do you prefer a more casual set up that is more about fun and less about skill?

Do you like a traditional FR set up or something a bit different such as an edgy MR or a dependable 4x4?

Do you prefer Japanese/European/American cars?

Which tires do you prefer to use, traditional Comfort Hard's or something a bit different?

Do you like to decorate your cars with a wild paint job/bodykit or prefer to leave them with the stock/sleeper look?

Personally, I prefer a mid size car with a healthy amount of bhp, enough power to break traction when provoked but not so much that it struggles for rear grip constantly. I used to use mainly Japanese cars in gt5 but have found myself drawn to the BMWs after taking one for a spin in the one make race and finding out how capable the little 135i coupe really was. I run mine at just under 500bhp without a turbo, I found amount of power and the way it was delivered suited my casual style of drifting more than big turbo'd nissans used to. I like to run it on comfort soft tires because it feels more predictable with the new grip/weight transfer physics. Overall I think it is really well balanced with plenty of front end grip which is how I like my cars set up, enough power to sustain long drifts but not so much that it becomes twitchy
 
For the most fun I tend to enjoy the lightweight 250-350 bhp cars like AE86 and the 1800 gsr lancer on sports hards. With these cars it's more of a touge run than drifting, but I find this the most fun thing to do in GT because I enjoy both drifting and time attack. These cars get a nice balanced setup with good turn in and front end grip but a planted rear that comes alive with some right foot or some provocation.

I do enjoy comfort hard drifting but everything is a little slow for me, and unless I've got a nailed setup I get frustrated. I used to enjoy this sort of proper drifting more in gt5. I'm getting better with gt6 though, have got a couple of cars that are great fun because I have them setup nicely. I defiantly prefer to tune for understeer to give stability when sideways with CH.

4WD cars are hilarious fun, on pretty much any tires. Be it full on gymkhana type stuff on comforts to a more tarmac wrc style with sports tyres. I set these up the same as the lightweights, nice and balanced, good turn in and planted rear when driving properly, but with a heavy right foot the arse will slide on corner exit, or on entry with a flick on turn in. I love my max tuned escort cossie and both RS200's, and I am still annoyed with PD for having a serious lack of performance ford models. (eta: not to mention the cos worth YB can only be tuned to measly levels in game, with easily twice the output possible IRL)

Other than that it's the usual S - chassis suspects and a monster lotus Carlton.

are you finding 4WD cars more fun in this game? I certainly am, the new physics make them feel much more agile and chuckable, they're no longer so grippy that it causes horrendous understeer. I think that it will make 4WD drift cars a serious alternative option rather than a controversial gimmick. I never really objected to them in gt5, but they were tricky to set up and difficult to drive well
 
I play GT with a lot of different people, so I try to build my garage so that I have a couple cars from each "class" or "catagory". Everything from low 300-400hp Hatches and Silvias to 600hp + Mustangs and Vipers. And for some reason, four doors have a special place in my heart (just wish we had more premium RWD big-bodies...)

As far as paint and whatnot, with my main cars, I like to make two versions of them....one a full on drift machine (wings, bright rims, etc) and the other I like to keep clean. Then I try to tune the "drift machine" to be slightly more aggressive.

I agree with you on the 4 doors, there's something amusing about sliding past a specialist drift machine in your big, unwieldy looking family sedan! I also have a soft spot for estates (station wagons), but that goes back to gt1 when the subaru impreza wagon was a surprisingly good race car due to its stability at high power.

Well in my honest opinion; I think PD should implement drivetrain conversions. That way the premium 4wd cars can be converted to run in the comps etc.
IMO comps should be FR and a control tyre.

4wd for me is more for fun.

But, yes. 4wd in this game is miles better than before. Lots of front end grip even on standard suspension. Excellent fun but they instill so much confidence that they present their own challenges. They need driving in a particular, assertive way, and when they deliver, it can be extremely satisfying.

I'm one of these guys that drives 4wd cars for what they are. I will never send all the power to the rear via the centre diff. It's at between 40:60 and 35:65 on all my fun 4wd cars. Funnily, my most rear biast car is a grip tuned r32 gtr with 30:70

I agree with this so much, I even tweeted Kaz asking why they haven't :lol:
 
It would have been great but I imagine it would have needed a total overhaul of the game mechanics to keep the "realism". Maybe if they released a RWD versions of popular 4x4's (impreza/lancer/skyline etc.) that would suffice to fill the gap?
 
I'm a FR drifter,my basic drift car is a S15. but I also drift some American muscle and Euro as long as its fun to drift ill drift it.

Yeah I know what you mean, would be nice to build one to your own specs. I've never liked the pre-built drift cars in GT, they always have a really aggressive set-up that doesn't suit how I drive

I have played around with the D1 ER34, I agree that the default setup isn't that great, but I did get it to slide pretty good. You just can't use it for comps..... :(
 
I'm only 4drs. I like some others but I use my Big Body cars 99% of the time. I also run different variations of each and every 4door, so I have around 8 versions for each model. Some that have big power some with less than stock. I tend to like drifting fast while on CH tires while on my DS3, but have a more balanced setup for angle while on my G27. I will use any tire depending on the room and the drivers in it.

Never thought of detuning a car to below stock power, but I suppose you can tune the grip levels so the car is a lot less stable. Nice to hear that not everyone is opposed to different tire choice, a lot of people seem to think that CH is the only option! Personally I've been enjoying CS on most of my cars, seems to get rid of the crazy snap back without being overly grippy
 
Since I re-started playing pc sims (LFS assetto corsa rfactor with project d mod) it totally annihilated my gt6 skills on CH tires. I might give a try on CM/CS tires as they seem a lot more stable my first drift video was on a 300hp 180sx on CS without knowing it, it felt too grippy for that power level but the feedback was good (traction and all). Might try that with my higher powered sedans (500hp Aristo, chaser and Supra).

Its an easy way to skip an hours worth of tuning! I'm getting used to CH now, finding ways to tune the problems away. Still not really tried any really high bhp cars yet though, highest i've got is a 545bhp Monaro and that handles like a dream now on CH
 
My drifting car of choice in GT5 was the solid red 02 Viper GTS. No engine mods, only weight reduction and rims that resemble the ACR edition of that GTS. Running on CS with ABS off and Brake Bias at 1/1. Ran smooth and drifted like butter. Obviously this setup isnt working in GT6 but im still tuning and tweaking.
 
Low HP less about skill?
High hp is easier to drift than low hp when you have... skill.
377hp in my 180sx
504hp in my FD
406hp in my Chaser.

I'm all over the place, but I really detest real high hp drift cars. And AWD

A low bhp car is easier to learn in than a twitchy high bhp monster, thats all i'm saying. Low power cars take more skill to drift well, but they are generally more predictable and less aggressive when first learning. If you put a beginner in a stock M3 they are going to be able to understand the basics of drifting and have more fun than if you put them in a 600bhp D1 car.
I haven't tried doing a setup on an AWD car yet, but I think they are definately improved from GT5 and should be given a chance before dismissing them entirely
