Which team do you guys think has the most potential to improve in the 2009 season? With the new rule changes it's quite possible we'll see some unlikely heroes making it to the front of the grid, which should make for an interesting season.

A few teams leap out at me as having more potential than the others though.

BMW: Assuming they keep their current driver lineup(no reason they shouldn't), BMW will have one of the best driver lineups on the grid, as well as having huge resources at hand. Plus they've already proven they can make a really good car, with an incredible 2008 season so far.

Red Bull: With Mark Webber, and Sebastien Vettel, Red Bull will also have an incredibly strong driver lineup next year, as well as having Adrian Newey(a designer second only to Rory Byrne in my opinion). So look for a good season from them.

Honda: Honda have a lot of resources, and a lot of determination, as well as having Ross Brawn. Should they sign some good drivers(quite likely), then they could change from a back of the grid team to a likely frontrunner.

These are all just my thoughts, how about yours?

If you're talking about the most room for improvement, then I'd say Force India.

I agree with all those above except perhaps BMW who are on the edge of becoming a championship-winning team, but not necessarily there yet. They could easily drop next season just like many a potential team before.

My top teams for improvement over this year:
1. Honda - Ross Brawn, need I say more? Actually yes, the small possibility of Alonso turning up.
2. Red Bull - Vettel will be a much-needed addition to the ex-Jaguar team.
3. Williams - don't know what they are doing at the bottom right now, they easily have the potential to come back, if they don't...I'm sad to say they may go the way of Minardi, Ligier, Arrows, etc, etc...

Teams that I don't feel will improve much:
1. Renault - they are improving this season...but it seems to be mostly up to the efforts of Alonso, and seeing as hes wanting to leave after this season..
2. BMW - have the potential to go the way of Jordan...if they're not careful.
3. Force India - not really any key personnel that will propel them anywhere, I doubt they will last much further without some serious development.
4. Toro Rosso - they are on a high this season, but since the team is heading for sale next year I'm wondering whether some personnel may be picked up by other teams.
5. Toyota - Again, on a high but may collapse again. I think they will improve but not by a huge amount, definitely a solid contender for next season though.

I doubt there will be a huge difference to this season - a change in the rules always favours the larger, richer teams, and has historically increased the gap between the first and last teams by a second or two. Based on that, Ferrari and McLaren will still be top dogs. My pick would be Force India, if they really did start focusing most of their resources on their 2009 car as early as they said they did.

It seems that Force India definitely has the most room for improvement, but Toyota's ultimatum has spurred the development of the cars further. Given resources and position in F1, I would say that theoretically, Toyota could improve the most for 2009, though that opinion banks on the ultimatum issued a while back that Toyota required results to continue the program. Continuing on theory, if their mindset favoured F1, certainly Toyota could devote a wealth of resources to the program greater than Force India.

I'm expecting big developement in engine side on Toyota on season 2009

I voted for Honda on the basis that they've got the most room to improve.

On the basis of today, I now expect Red Bull to be right up there next season.

After watching this race today, I'm certain that both RBR and STR will have a good chance to get some good finishes in 09. They are a force to be reckon with...... :trouble: (although I did vote for STR :indiff:)

Interesting, I would put STR as a team most likely to drop out. One thing you probably haven't considered is that as of next year you need your own chassis, something STR don't currently have. Sure they are good this year, infact they have been very impressive on a tight budget, they dont really have the resources to develop a new car though. Another thing to consider they have two good drivers, but the best is leaving, of course thats rather subjective but its hard to argue that replacing Vettel with an equally good driver may be difficult on a tight budget. Its a shame because they have been my favorite underdog team for a few years but I cant see them existing next season.

Normally, I'd say Honda; not because I'm a fan, but because they have Ross Brawn's influence. However, I feel that will be negated until such time as they get rid of Shuei Nakamoto. Getting rid of Geoff Wills in favour of Nakamoto has to have been the stupidest decision any team has made since Andrea Moda decided to let Perry McCarthy run at Spa witha bent steering arm.

Because of that, Honda get demoted to number two on my list, behind Red Bull. Sebastian Vettel will be a major asset to the team next year, and I'll even hedge my bet so far as to say that if it were Hamilton behind the wheel of the Toro Rosso, the entire weekend would have played out differently. However, Red Bull also have their own ball and chain in the shape of Mr.-Consistent-but-not-in-a-good-way Mark Webber. He's the second most over-rated driver in the sport behind Hamilton, and while it sounds icnredibly unpatriotic of me to say that, it's true. Yes, he's consistent, and yes, he's got experience ... but he's not translating that into results, and thus is going nowhere.

Technically, Toro Rosso will drop out eventually ... but they'll be re-badged in orer to comply with rules relating to team ownership and customer cars.

I think BMW will become regular race winners in 2009. You can see already that they've pretty much given up on '08, having achieved their stated aim of winning a race on merit. They've got the personnel stability, the CFD facilities and the wind tunnel facilities to generate a huge throughput of componentry. And with Ferrari & McLaren fighting tooth & nail for 2008, I think they'll be a bit behind the curve to start with.

That being said, I don't think BMW have really come to terms with the development effort required to overpower McLaren and Ferrari across a whole season. These two develop at such a ferocious rate, I wonder whether BMW will be able to maintain the stream of innovations required.

I don't think that Red Bull will be significantly stronger than they are now. Historically, it takes Adrian Newey a while to get his head around new regs, and so I expect another upper-mid season from them.

i obviously think BMW has the most potential out of every team. If you look at it, almost every race, there has been a driver up on podium(except for a few races) the ability to go from a bad season in 2007 to exceptionally high performances in 2008 is phenomenal.

lets hope toyota gets going because i heard a rumor that if the team doesn't improve, the 2009 season could be there last
