So my beloved top-of-the-range Sony Wega 36 inch TV is on its last legs. Some days, I get no picture and only sound.

Backwards and forwards to the electronics store but can't make up my mind what to replace it with. Budget is rather tight this time round. Which of these two would you opt for and why?

1) Hitachi P42-XP03 (Plasma with built in 250gb HDD)

or

2) Sony Bravia KDL-40V5 (LCD)

Well, personally I'd have the Bravia. But that's because I already have one and love it to bits.

This Hitachi one with the hard drive seems quite promising though. I couldn't find any reviews of that specific model, but this one reviews a similar Hitachi set with the same features.

I'm also a bit biased, as every Hitachi product I've owned (or my friends/family have owned) has had a nasty tendency to break in some way fairly quickly. It was usually the speakers, as it happens... But that was all about 10 years ago now, so I expect they've upped the quality a bit by this point in time.

I'd still have the Sony though. It's got great reviews from here (or rather, a model eeerily similar looking has), looks fantastic and appears to have a massive array of inputs.
