White Balance, ISO, and Shutter/Aperture not affecting light levels

Am I missing something with this mode? I enjoy it, but I keep reading how the camera functions just like a real camera, but it doesn't.

I can use the shutter to get some cool blur effects, but changing it doesn't affect how much light I take in.

Similar with the aperture, affects depth of field, but has little to no affect on lighting. Should be using this in conjunction with shutter speed, but they seem to have no affect on each other.

I've seen reviews mention using ISO or White Balance, but as far as I can tell they are locked. In a way, the filters sort of cover white balance, among some other post processing, but why in a game this complex can't I simply set my white balance? Maybe I don't want the extreme levels of coloring from "cool" and "warm".

I won't even get into all the cool picture options missed by not being able to adjust ISO. I'll just leave it at there being a lot.

Were they afraid people wouldn't get it? They'd be confused by the settings? They could have had it as it is, but added more advanced setting for those of us who have expanded our photography knowledge beyond cardboard Kodak and point-and-clicks. I can promise setting up an SLR is way easier than tuning suspension.

The mode was touted as like using a SLR, but it's not at all. It's like a bargain point 'n' shoot camera, with some cute processing effects, but missing fine tuning features. I still enjoy photo mode, but it is seriously neutered.

You are aware of photo editing programs like Photoshop, right? Be happy we even get proper readouts, not many games do that. Admittedly, it's nothing like an SLR camera, but the flexibility helps a lot of the time..

I'm quite aware of there being photo programs. I barely have time to shop my real photos, I won't be doing it for GT5 photos. Just thought I was missing something, since the GT site says it's like a dslr, and reviews have said they could adjust iso and wb. I thought maybe it was designed like the automobile parts of the game. Maybe I needed to take 1000 photos to unlock white balance or something.

Shouldn't need PS to adjust white balance or iso. Given what they've got, it would be quite easy to put in. I guess if I really want to I will use PS to touch them up, but I just don't think we should have to considering how easy it would be to have it in game. They could have just borrowed some stuff from that game "Afrika" or whatever it was... Sony endorsed photography game. As bad as it was, it had accurate camera options.

If it's anything like the damage system, it might be refined in later updates.
But seriously, throwing it into PS can get you some stunning results. 👍

Well.... if you think about it. Actually the camera in Photo mode is acting correctly. The ISO is set to auto... so regardless of what you set your shutter and aperture to, the camera will automatically adjust ISO to give a proper exposure... just alike a real camera. If you want to adjust your exposure, simple tune the EV button. True, its not like a full manual camera, but it is pretty damn good.

They had to keep it simple I guess. It would have been nice to have a fully functioning camera, but most people never even take their real cams of AUTO do they, at least this is actually teaching them something on how shutter speed and aperture effect a shot, shame we can't up the ISO and add some grain.
