I got a question for you all. Who cares about winning more than being pure to GT5P. By being pure I mean making no mistake, taking no shortcut, trying your damnest to be perfect every single turn, every single curve, evey single S.

For instance, online games when somebody wipes me out. I don't get angry. I just srug it off and try to be perfect in every way i possible can regardless of being in first or last place. Those who win by ramming, rubbing, wrecking and taking shortcut enjoy wins that seems so hollow. Sometimes I find myself 15 seconds down and manage to win online because I tried to be as perfect as I can.

Who wins by being perfect?

Theres nothing wrong in striving for perfection, as long as you do not take it too far.

Anyway, I care about being, as you say, "pure". Although I'd like to think of it as being a good driver and racer and also proper racing ettiquette. Anything else is pointless. Why even bother racing if you can't even prove that you can use your skill to win? What's there to prove? That you're the dirtiest racer out there?

Don't let them get to you, it is always better to race clean and finish last than to race dirty and finish first.

Also, if you ever get into a GTP-dominated grid, then driving "perfect" will allow you to win ;)

This could be good POLL :)
For me, I always choose a weaklink. I pick a small, slow, car that cant take a turn, and race with big boys. I know I am going to loose, but at least I take my pride, and I never try race dirty. If someone is behind me, I move to side and Give them My spot (only when my car is way too slow).
I love to race clean, but of course, bump here, bump there is ok, by accident but not causing it ;)

same here, clean good race which you enjoy is better sometimes than winning.
Racing with non tagged members and being in the lead from lap 1 to winning at the end gives no enjoyment than racing with fellow GTP members and fighting for posistion time after time and losing it in the sand at the last corner, LOVE IT.

I don't care if I'm last... I just want to improve my lap time - next lap. And I too feel guilty if I ram some guy (mistakes happens ;) but I usually wait for them.

Btw off-topic do you get less traction if you're first? I notice this in races where there are many people, but not on races with just a couple of racers? Anyone know this is true or is it just me?

I care more for the race than for the win. Mostly because I'm only a mediocre driver. ;) :D I'm usually online testing new tunes so I don't go for the win anyway, just observing how it handles under pressure.

Id hate to win if i knew there was a better driver out there in the field, but I only won by ramming him off.

So ofcourse its all about clean races. This is my biggest gripe against GT5P i love the game so much, but i uasely get feed up after a few races with all these punters. So i am kinda not playing GT5 P so much anymore. I am waiting for private rooms.

Also the only fair thing to do if mistakenly hitting someone is to brake and let them have their position back, even if that means other drivers will pass you too.

There have been many races that one should have been driving perfect to be able to win... well, I lost.

..but first you drive clean, then you try to make no mistakes, and then you try to be fast at the same time. It should be in this order...

And respecting the other drivers means a lot more than winning some random race. If you respect, you will be respected and then it will get easier to be a bit faster as we´ll. It is very respectful to see some very fast driver to stop and wait for a driver (..that might be 3-5sec slower / lap..) he accidently pushed out.. 👍 (I've seen this happening)

I agree with Timppaq its all about respect and a clean battle. It doesnt matter to me where i finish, as long as i had a good race im happy.

I don't care about the wins at all, just so it's a good race.

I've even had races where I and another driver were swapping 1st and 2nd at nearly every turn. Every pass was clean; maybe a slight nudge here and there, but clean over all. If I just happen to be the luckier of the two on the last turn, I'll actually slow down and hand over the win at the line, just out of respect/appreciation for a well-faught race.

I've got all the cars I want and maxed out at $2 Million, I don't need anymore.

The difference between driving for a win and driving for profection? Driving for the win, you have to be perfect, hit your marks, no mistakes and you cannot let the pressure of others beat you mentally. When I race, its for the racing. Its for the excitement of racing others at a competitive level. Driving pure comes into the relm, while side by side racing is difficult to achieve, which require much skill and pacience to not make mistake and take your oponent out. Driving with perfect, can give you wins. When I am driving and leading with a large margin..it becomes no longer fun for me, that win is meaningless.. Because I didn't work for it, and there was no racing involved....

So you see for me driving for a win and driving to be pure are really the same thing. Because honestly I want to do both at the same time.

Now I am going play devil's advocate. While this is all true for me, when racing I want to be as pure as I can, I also want to show my skill by going for a win. Going for a win, desperation can come in, at this instance this is where you start braking later, braking harder, trying to throttle out sooner. With with too much desperation can lead to spins, going off the track and taking others out. I try not to race at 110%, because it gets me out of my groove. It takes the pure out of me.

The pure racer in me tells me, its ok finish second place. For me, I don't have to win all the time. As long as it was a good race, with lots of racing with others, and I battled it out as well as I could. Suddenly finishing 2nd is ok, because you know and I know we tried our best.

I see alot of racers out there saying the same thing I do. To that I say, I hope I meet you out there on the track. So we can put are philsophy to the test. :)

I understand that people may want to give the other person the win, however in my opinion after a grueling battle if you earned the win, by all means take it. I am sure the other person next to you also has 2 million maxed out and personally i would not want to be handed a win if i did not earn it myself.

"Perfection" as defined by perfect mark cues, braking points, lines, etc are difficult at best to achieve in 3 lap races. Especially in a large field of cars. Unless you start at the front, manage to get away cleanly and are able to ignore the effects of the RBE for a whole lap. That's just my opinion. I have a different definition of pure driving for this particular "simulator demo".

As for winning, It's important for me to beat racers that I respect and admire. I can usually count on "pure" sim racing with them on the track. I could care less about finishing last to a field of can openers on wheels lol.

I think that racing "pure" is better sometimes(of course I don't race bad)
for example, I'm racing my f2007 on the old f2007 High Speed Ring reverse.
I race clean, i´m usually in the top 3. But when the race is allmost done the some people
get nervous and start punting other players. Aspecialy at the front.
Lets say i'm third and the two leading players want to win 2000 cr more.
they may race at a faster pace and often spin out ,And i win:idea:

I often stop before the line to give the 1st and 2nd place to the next 2 guys that have dueled for laps and raced clean. If I doubt any passes that I have made on others or have seen others punted (and they would have won otherwise) I let them win more often then not. I don't need the credits, I am at the point where I am just buying different colors of the same cars so I can have more then 3 tuned setups per car type (or just different colors).

I'm a bit obsessive about clean laps. I'm much more disappointed in myself when I screw up royally (even if I come back to win) than when I lose a race which I drove well.

Like cool shoes? 👍

Couldn't care less about winning at this juncture, or being perfect as the game's not finished so it's all just running around as far as I'm concerned. It would be nice to keep the #$kin' car out of the bloody gravel for a couple of laps at least.:ouch:

Where's the 1000m Sprint ?!?!

I like to win, but there is no satisfaction in it if it comes via unsavory acts. It really isn't a win so much as an exploitation.

I'm apparently not satisfied until I've hurled the freaking car sideways at the worst possible time, like I'm going to get style points for it or something. When I find myself in with a quality field, I'll eventually push too hard at least once, not necessarily to make time, more to increase the "WOW" factor for the person behind me. Hey look-I can make it through this section totally sideways! Stupid. Maybe I should try drifting.
