Who decided Llama's?

It seems to me lately I have been noticing the use of "the fighting Llama's" in more games now when refering to the local towns sport teams. I think I heard it used in GTA:VC the other day.

Was Simcity the first to use Llamas as their mascot? I remember seeing that in the first version of the game. I just figured the creator had a thing for Llamas, or maybe thought it was funny.

Anybody know the true story behind the Llama? Anyone else see it used in any other games?

I know Maxis has used them for quite a long time in the Sim games - I always assumed it was just because it's funny. I hadn't noticed them in any other games.

Llama - it's a funny word, that resembles "lamer" which is the slang noun for "lame[/lame]" which is an adjective defined as "Weak and ineffectual; unsatisfactory"
