Fir the Champions league, Barcelona are as good a bet as anyone else. Chelsea have a similar chance as they did last year, I think Chelsea and Man U's chances are pretty similar. I think Liverpool will be in the running again. AC Mila are a year older now, I don't know if they've done anything in terms of bringing in some younger players, but the squad they have is getting on a bit.

Isn't there a thread to talk about this stuff?

Anyway, off the top of my head, I'll say a quick guess, AC Milan and Real Madrid.

I'm lazy to explain now though :)

Milan should be able to use Ronaldo in the champs league this time around as long as he's not injured. Also they havent signed anyone yet, but I don't see why they wouldnt strenghthen after whatever money they get from the champs league.

As for barca well I wonder if rijkaard will be able to handle the egos of ronaldinho, eto'o, henry and to some extent messi. Or if he even stays in the job.

That's true, I forgot about Ronaldo. But still, they haven't made any signings yet, theire average age of the team last season I think was over 30. I doubt the same team as last seasons winner would win it this year simply because of the age. They have a chance ofcourse, and they are a very good squad, but I'd be suprised if, without and big signings, they got to the Semi's. The other big contenders have strenthened their squads, and they all have more energy than Milan

Naturally, I'd love Man U to win it again, we've made some good signings. Nani and Anderson need to prove their worth what we spent, but Hargreaves is a first class signing and so is Tevez provided we get him, which we are almost certain to regardless of who's favour FIFA rule in. If Man U don't make it to the final I'll be rooting for one of the other English clubs, Arsenal over Chelsea and Chelsea over Liverpool.

You gotta understand Italian football. It's mostly about being defensive.
That's why Man U and and Liverpool couldn't really touch them on the crucial moments. They don't play like the typical "young" team offensively on every play. That's why AC Milan have the luxury of having such "older" players on their squad.
Fabio Capello, the one who represents Italian football at its best, is a defensive coach, that's why he got sacked from R. Madrid as they wanted a more offensive coach. But you tell me what Capello's history is, almost a perfect one.

Man U, Barcelona, R. Madrid, Chelsea, and all those teams who like to get the best mid-forwards and offensive strikers, won't stand a chance if AC Milan keep up their defensive strategies.

Basically it doesn't matter if you have Messi, Tevez, C. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and etc etc, if the other team's defense is well aligned.

A perfect example, the final of the Copa America; Argentina - Brazil: Brazil was out of their best offensive players, Kaka and Ronaldinho, but they're defense was strong enough to hold Riquelme, Tevez, Messi, Aimar, Cambiasso, and all the others. And that's why they won it, 'cause they didn't let them score.

Oh, we know all about Italian football. The over defensive nature of it is why it doesn't get watched that often over here, we find it a bit boring.

But your point is taken that playing more defensive probably doesn't exert you as much. Tbh though, I'd rather Man U keep playing like they do and not win the CL than become a defensive team and win it.

So, you don't care about winning tittles and therefore not making you a real winner?

Okay, well that shows why Man. U hasn't won the CL in like 40 years.

We won the CL in 1999. I think as long as your defence is strong enough to cope with the flow of a game then whether your playing attacking, or defensive, your in the running to win the game. We've beaten strong defensive teams, we haven't had much luck against AC Milan granted, but it's mainly down to how we your midfield is coping with a particular game.

As for me preferring my team to be playing well and not winning over playing badly and winning, absolutely. I enjoy watching Man U because of the way they play, fast, flowing attacking and counter attacking football. Take that away and yes, I'm still a Man U fan, but I'd be more entertained watching Arsenal, not that I'm not entertained watching them at the moment mind. If you get what I'm saying. the important thing is the way you play, if that's keeping you entertained, trophies come second.

That said, Milan's defence isn't perfect either.

Champion's League picks: Manchester United (I have a bad feeling) or Barcelona.

Euro 2008 pick: Spain.
