Who else is having regular LOCK-UPs? Trying to troubleshoot the cause. PS3 is fine?

Its happened about 20 times so far. Pretty much every time I play GT5 i expect to have to quit the game and restart it. Its ONLY in menus or exiting or entering a race, never a mishap or freeze up during a race, that runs smooth as.

And it happens randomly, anywhere, and only after a button click. :scared:

For example I will click on expert series, and I just see the spinning clock, just grinding away. It wont time out. Its just blocked at that part and I have to quit the game through the psn menu and re enter gt5. Other times it will be right after selecting to enter a race, before or after the level loads. Sometimes even after a race is over and you get all your money and exp, it will lock up going back to the menu.

It is weird because the system or even game hasn't locked up completely. I can still hear menus or see the gt logo shimmering, and if I'm using SD resolution I can still zoom using the R1 button. I DON'T think its the net lag. I disconnect the Internet after lock ups and it doesn't time out. And it even happens when I am in off line mode.

NO other game Or anything for that matter has ever done it. My PS3 Slim is pretty new and hasn't used that much, has always been babied and hasn't suffered any troubles or neglect at all. Seems to work fine except for gt5.

My Gt5 disc is pristine in appearance. Has gone straight from the wrapped up case to Playstation and hasn't been taken out.

I have tried deleting the installed files, ad reinstalling them about 2-3 times. Still happens.

FUNNILY ENOUGH. The game has never locked up if I don't install the files and just keep pressing no and running it off the disc. But I haven't played the game enough in that state to be sure.

Any ideas? Could it be my gt5 disc? IM wondering IF I should exchange it, even if you can on such a trivial matter. And theres no way I getting the playstation looked at because of the save file thing

OH and to anyone that has a PS3 slim. In a really quiet room, with no game volume, during a long race, where you are not making noise do you ever hear your disc drive goo eeeee-ohohhhhhh, on a regular basis? Mine does it about once every 7 or 8 laps, its a loud noise as far as the PS3 goes, but you really need to be in a quiet place to notice it.

Log out of PSN if your not going to be playing online or trading cars. GT5's online causes offline problems occasionally.

No, it does it in offline mode to, as Ive said :indiff:

Read what I wrote again. The online portion of GT5 interferes with the offline portion and causes you to have somewhat longer loading times in between menus. Log out of PSN to fix the problem temporarily until a patch fixes it further.

....Dude. I'm not an idiot. Read what I wrote again. By offline mode, I don't simply mean I'm otherwise fully online and signed into PSN, but just in GT life and just not entering online races.

By offline mode, not only do I mean just logged out of PSN, but even the extra step of cutting my PS3 from any network connectivity altogether.

Well, you just said offline mode, which is pretty vague. But back on topic, I don't know what your problem is. Did you do the optional 8 GB install? Maybe your install file is corrupt.

Certain tracks wouldn't load at all for me after I installed the game, so I re-installed the 8 gigs and then it worked fine.

I've only had one lock up and that's when the online servers crashed a few nights ago. If my disk drive is revving up like that, I haven't noticed.

Since you say you haven't taken the GT5 CD out.....I'd see what happens with other games. (Yeah, I know you said it hasn't, but they might now and this would be a good way to tell if it's just GT5 and therefore a game problem, or if it's possibly hardware related).

If you are having multiple lock ups, I would say there is a problem. Since you are the only one (that I've seen) having this issue, I would suspect hardware - esp if other game start exhibiting the same behavior. If that is the case...

I'd be backing up data or transferring EVERYTHING to another HDD ASAP.

Not a single freeze on me with this game since the day I bought it. Brand new 160gbPS3 with GT5 :). I always play the game logged in to psn.

Have you tried ABS?

lol. Yea man thats the first thing I did. But I cant find any ABS settings in the PS3. Its 2010. Youd' think they'd have ABS as standard on a ps3 but they dont and it keep locking up....

Hhmm. Actually something important. Has anyone else noticed that tracks nowdays sometimes load up WAY before the track loading bar is finished? For example its only 15% filled up but the track will load up and you can start the race. I remember in the past it used to go all the way. Now after all this reinstalling and tinkering Mine load up ith no correlation to the loading bar progress

Actually, as jmatt94 said....a reinstall would be a best first step.

Do you guys reinstall by going in the gt5 utilities and selecting remove game data? OR is it better do it it in the PS3 XMB and delete the game data from there?

Do I delete all the updates too from the game data utility? My save will be ok right? Id rather have locks up than loose my game data!

Hmm Ive tried lost planet and thats fine. I don't have too many PS3 games. I'll try all 5 out but it doesn't seem worth it.

On the backup issue, Do I need a 160GB USB hdd to backup just my gt5 save file? Cos thats all I care about, and since the save is copy protected, how does this ps3 backup thing work? With a USB hdd of the same size? I've never done it.
