Hi,

I think the ring is the most amazing track, and really want to have a go at doing it for real; I am just scared of crashing!

I have a mate who says he will call out the bends and help me, but I cannot help but think that every time I drive it in GT5 that I cannot imagine doing it for real, at least at a speed that would make a lap worth doing.

So who here has done it, and how scary is it?

Simon.

i have been there, yes it is VERY scary.
i took a mk1 golf 16v, learning the trun off GT4/5 really helps but you encounter some really quick cars which just appear from no where then are sat on your rear bummer!
I never did a 100 per cent committed lap but i did manage to pull over 120 mph in a few sections!
gutted i have now moved to australia so i wont be driving it again soon.

The ring is a motorhead dream, lots of great cars and a very friendly place. i miss it lots

I have. If you're prepared for it, it's not that scary, although it helps that I wasn't able to go fast enough to be scared :O

Pffft. I didn't hit more than a real-world 90mph at any point, a number which is twice the horsepower I had. The Nürburgring is fun in any car, you just have to be aware of what's coming up behind you. If you practice on GT5, then you'll know what's coming up over the next crest, but that's all GT5 is good for when you're there.

Also, read this.

Me too.

The track is magical, and not as intimidating as I thought it would be. It deserves much respect though...there are plenty of tire tracks on the tarmac that represent someone else's bad day.

Fact. The scariest moments for me were trying to get out of the way...to the right, which was NOT ideal in certain spots. The speed isn't really an issue, unless you think with the wrong body part.

The Ring is definitely worth doing, if you have the chance :)👍.

I've been driving on the Nordschleife since 1999. I only live about 90 miles from the Nordschleife and I visit it about once or twice a month. During the summertime about 3 times a month.

It's.. different. I guess. I also drive on tracks like Zandvoort and TT-Assen but the difference is huge. The things you don't get in various sims like GT5 are the bumps, the G-forces in your stomach when going through the Fuchsrohre and of course the smell of burned rubber, clutches and brake pads 👍

The first time you will be nervous. Obviously. And you should. It doesn't matter in what car you'll be in. You'll be awfully slow. Take it for a fact.
There are no prizes to be won. Keep that in your mind. You probably have a family, waiting for you to get home again. In one piece. Drive safe.
Watch your mirrors or at least let your passenger adjust 1 mirror for him/her so he/she can check and warn you for what's coming up from behind. People WILL overtake you like you're parked with speed differences that will probably blow your mirrors off, make sure to keep RIGHT at all times.

Driving the Nordschleife in GT5 can only help you just that little bit. The good thing is that you could remember where to go left/right. That's about it though.

Do they have Pro's there that I can hire to come in the car with me?
I would love for an expert to show me the ropes, and then spend some time helping me get the best out of it.

No, unfortunately there is no such thing.

Of course there are schooling days (what's the english/american word for that lol?) where you get to learn the whole track per section but it's pretty expensive (in the range of $3-4k, 3 days) but such things never find place during public days (touristenfahrten).

so jealous of you living o close to the ring :)

Ah, I could take the taxi round first.

Yes you could, it's €195,- now.. I think ? Not sure..
That's for 1 lap and you can go with 3 passengers max. so it'll only cost you €65,-. Still a lot for just a simple lap but I guess it's worth it if you've never been there. But you have to reserve in time though.

That would be awesome to just see the track let alone drive on it. I wonder what kind of lap time I could get with my 1999 Chevy Blazer? I would have 4wd for all the times I went off track lol.

I'm going there in less than a week, and me and my mate have considered the ringtaxi. Do you think it's too late to reserve a time? I'll be in Nürburg on Monday.

Well, as you saw, I wanted to experience the ringtaxi, however since everything is sold out I'll be driving the ring in an BMW 525d '04 (E61). I'm really uncertain about the front-tyres, since they're cheap ****! Minerva that is, but that's my only concern so far.

I see. Well, me and my mate will arrive late on Monday, so everything seems to go as planned so far, apart from the ringtaxi thing :P
