Here's a simple question: Do you like long tracks? Or do you prefer shorter ones?
(If you find yourself in the first category, you may rejoice, for you can now drive Targa Florio (Piccolo Madonie) for GPL - for free (it's a free add-on). Now, I know it's a bit off-topic, but: it's a first, it's a brilliant piece of trackmaking and a bit of a milestone in videogaming: such a loooooonggg track has never been done before. One single lap takes an average of about 40 - 45 minutes!
You can see the entire lap - in parts of 9 mins - here:

Which leads me to my question, since got to thinking about long tracks and I'm torn about whether I'm going to install it myself.
The Ring is the longest track in most racing games, even if the Isle of Man has been done in slightly shortened form for GPL a while ago (real-size version is in the works).
Now a lot of people like longer tracks, like the Nurburgring. I like it too, since I know it by heart, find its layout fun (and drove it in real life), although I don't like to hotlap it all that much - personally, I find it much too long! (Partly that's because I usually drive by 'simracing rules' which involves keeping it on the track at all times.) I notice I'll start yearning for a straight after about three minutes max. In GT, Grand Valley Speedway (which I also like) is about as long as I can take. I find myself physically and mentally tired and worn out too after a lap of the Ring in a great hurry.
And that's only in a videogame.
Some gamers seem to be like me: prefer shorter tracks, so you can take a breather after a while and can check where you are laptime- and race-wise.
But a lot of people mention the Ring as their favorite track. And I'm wondering why: is it just the challenge of completing a lap (note: in GPL and most other sims, valid records only count if there's two wheels on the track at all time and no wallriding), or, is it the attraction of driving through nice scenery and a good bit of twisty roads for as long as possible?
So how is it with you? Do you have a penchant for such long tracks, or prefer shorter ones?
(And: if PD ever did bring out Targa Florio for GT as well, might it upstage the Ring as your favorite racing circuit?)
