Because Choi kwang do martial arts is growing in popularity world wide i wondered if any GT planet members apart from me actually take the martial art?
If anyone does take CKD what is your current belt level, coz i started 8 weeks ago i am getting my belt grading to yellow belt senior on sunday.

i too have never heard of it. i have taken 5 different styles of martial arts, wut is CKD? i am assuming it is some form of karate, is it a new style? where abouts does it originate? etc...etc...

I've taken Karate, Tai Kwan Do, and that's it.:thatsodd:

WoW man that looks pretty cool. I might need to check in to this.

There seem to be quite a few Choi do-jangs here in Australia. I have a few friends who do that art, and I must say it seems like a very professional organisation. If you want to speak with people in the club, post a reply and I'll see what I can do about getting them signed up to this forum.

Oh, and some of you may not realise - Grandmaster Choi was, many years ago, a Tae Kwon-Do practitioner. He developed the style of Choi Kwang Do primarily from his knowledge of Tae Kwon-Do. The styles though, are really nothing alike in most aspects. Most people in the martial arts world have a lot of respect for Choi and what he has been able to achieve.

I have never heard of this and ive been doing Tae-Kwon-Do for 4 years ( got my black belt last december on the 20th, 20th was my birthday as well...oh what a happy day that was :) )

im only on my 1st degree, i havnt been training very hard lately *hangs head in shame* and what club were u training under for tkd?

United. Its a very large group based in texas. It might be quite different from yours. I didnt like the way it was run, and they didnt offer enough weapons training, which is why I left. Although, if i stayed, I was only 1 more year away from Sabanim. Oh well.

im under United ITF, australian one may be different but yeah...i do enjoy it but i enjoyed it more when i was enetering tournaments, just sorta stopped training hard enough... but my new years resolution (sp?) is to get back into TKD :)

Thats cool. GOod luck to ya. I got to go to the junior olympics a couple times for it back when I was younger.

junior olympics? man what was that like? ive gone in Australaisian championship, oceanic champion ship, Australian championship, Victorian and club ones..walked away winner in sparring from all of those, got some 1st and a few 2nd and thirds for patterns but lets just remember its not about the sporting its about the martial art :) ( ok but sport side is asome :D )

The junior olympics is really just bragging rights i guess. I got 3rd a couple times in sparring, and thats it. Im not all that good at paterns, my strength is predicting other people while fighting.

Kendo is great fun. I love the staff more than any weapon in the world. Another reason I left TKD...I hate the nunchuckaku...which many of the forms utilize.

Choi Kwang-Do is a very young martial art. Its only been going since 1987, but is starting to spread throughout the world now. Its very strong in atlanta, michigan, UK and Australia.

If you want more info on it you can go to
