Who thinks they should ditch 2 player battle

My theory is that polyphony could ditch this and free up memory and cpu resources to dedicate to the main game - at the moment they are obviously holding back some of the true power of the ps3 so it can run the 2 player split screen mode.

In todays network based world, they should really support 2 player mode online or over a LAN (i.e. you need 2 machines). I'm not sure these days anyone is going to buy gt5 that isn't connected to the internet, or wouldn't be prepared to sacrific this for a better main game.

Other than saving a bit of space on the disc, I don't see how ditching a game mode changes anything in terms of computing power in the other modes.

I'm sorry, but i think doesn't make much sense because they would reduce quality/ resolution only for split-screen and any other mode won't be affected by this.
Also we don't know how efficient GT5 is programmed, I mean the cars look great but the environments aren't quite the same level. Maybe we'll be surprised by PD when GT5 comes out tho, who knows.

Wait.....what?

I am thankful PD still give the option (assuming in GT5 aswell), most multiplayer is 'online' now.

Proof? :sly:

I, for one, love the 2 player mode; it's much funnier to play head-to-head with my friends than on the internet IMO. I hate the fact that so many racing games these days only offer online multiplayer. 👎

No. Every other developer is ditching local multiplayer and I'm hating them for it. My internet is so bad I can't play online, so without a 2-player mode I'm.... you get the idea.

No, local MP is what makes playing GT5 at family gatherings fun. Nobody wants to take turns racing anymore.

I don't think you understand how this works, care to explain how you think having a 2 player mode in the game means that there is less CPU power available to run the single player game?

I'll give you a clue, it doesn't.

No, because removing the 2 player mode would have no impact on the single player game. It would just remove a game mode that people still use, there will alwas be people who want to have a 2 player wile a friend is round. Why remove that.

Surely just having the 2p mode is just using up some space on the disc, not using up system resources? I mean, the PS3 isn't secretly running 2p split screen even when you're not playing it.

Personally I think they should definitely keep it. Not everyone has 2 PS3's in their house (though, coincidentally, I do as my brother has one as well), so without 2p mode if someone wanted to race with a friend they'd have three options:

1. Tell their friend to go home and get on their PS3 so they can race.
2. Tell their friend to go home, get their PS3 and TV and come back so they can race.
3. Tell their friend to pick up another pad, press the PS button and launch 2p mode.

Basically, my point is, without the 2p mode option the friend or you have to go through a lot of inconvenience, or sit and play together in separate houses over the internet- Nowhere near as fun as being in the same room.

I severely doubt including 2p mode means they have to exclude anything, so there's no point in taking it out other than KY's perfectionist nature- 2p mode on GT5P had to make a number of graphical compromises to maintain the performance, and he certainly seems the 'do it properly or not at all' type. Then again, it has been in every other GT so far (except maybe GT1, I can't remember).

Edit: That took me way too long to post, there weren't any replies when I started typing...

Clearly someone doesn't understand how things work with computers... having an extra mode has no affect on the gameplay of other modes. And with 50GB discs, space isn't an issue either.

If you've seen any of the newer videos from GC, Tokyo 246 looks superb, just missing crowds in the stands. Even the interiors of the buildings are modeled! GT5 is definitely going to offer us some surprises.

As for the topic, no, forget that. Many PS3 owners don't even have broadband.

Split-Screen FTW! Nothing is more fun than sitting in the same room with a buddy, racing for hours on end. NOTHING!

Id be really happy if there was a 2P GP mode. i thought it was boring just 2 cars on track how about some other cars?

maybe something like this for online too

maybe 2P online?

While its not something that I would use often, I'd definitely want to see the 2p mode kept.
being able to just pick up the game and have a couple of races with mates can be a good laugh. racing over the net just isnt the same.

How dare you even suggest such a thing? Some of us have actual human friends, and enjoy hanging out in the same room with other people. Please, next time you have a thought like this, just......don't. :ouch:

If GT ditches the 2 player mode i'll ditch GT simple as that. Most of the time i play with friends, and i do so on one PS3. Yeah they have a PS3 aswell, but its just more fun to sit next to eachother.

I love taking my buddies to school on 2P mode...it needs to stay. However NASCAR 09 dosen't have 2P (witch is stupid) and I believe that's partially why that game wasn't as successful. Most of us are men and most men like to compete and sometimes your internet for what ever reason may not be available so, why not sit at home and race a buddy with 2P?

ditch 2 player? NEVER, hell i think they should introduce 4 player, i wouldnt mind a drop in resolution if it meant 4 people in 1 room racing with a few beers..instead of all being at ur respective homes with a bluetooth headset on..has voice comms during the race been confirmed yet anyway?

Never drop 2 player mode. Only drop 2 player split screen replay mode, I want one SINGLE SCREEN for replay!

umm guys don't you think it would be a better idea if PD does the opposite of this idea.. I meant to say like adding more than two players to race at once..say around 4 should be good..

Why would anyone want to remove split screen :ill:

Most fun is in the split screen department, having friends over! The whole problem is now a days they remove it in most games. Which i cant understand since online is nice but its no where near as fun and lasting as 2p battle. 👍
