ah man, i keep reading posts where people say they are making their cars go 260mph plus, but i have all the cars like minolta, R92CP etc and i've tried everything to make them go that fast (including NOS) and the fasteset i can get is about 230mph? any ideas why?

Settings. It's all settings. Gears, suspension, aero, etc.

I've heard of people hitting 360.

I assume that you don't mean 360 mph??? it's impossible I think, I got Supra RZ go over 487km/h :)

I´ve got like 325 mph, just making sum settings, and NOS, but i can go faster with other settings and wheelie trick.

You can do the wheelie trick? Please elaborate... tell me how, which car, etc.

ive got 250Mph out of a tuned minolta, and 230mph from a standard Autounion. im gonna tune the union and get some whacky speeds

I got 295 out of my Viper SRT10, and the fastest I've seen is 382 in a Toyota GT1 :) And yes, it's all about settings. If you can't break 230 you've got a lot of learnin to do 💡

The trick is mainly getting the gear ratios and downforce settings right to reduce drag.

I got my TS020 to around 265 on max speed test just by lowering the hell out of it and setting the gears right. Then I tried driving it on sarthe II and the bumpiness absolutely killed it.

I've got up to 280ish, but 325?... damn. I guess I have some experimenting to do

My record is 415km/h with the minolta, but that was just a fluke.

I drove around the very outside of the corner on test cource then drove towards the middle. It acted like a hill and gave my car a very welcomed speed boost. :)

I achieved somewhere around 300mph on the back wheels of my nitroused, turbo'd Minolta Toyota shortly before having a violent accident. Managed just over 270mph on all four wheels in the same, rather knackered, car.

Also, in the same car, I wish to lay down the challenge of having the fastest accident in GT4. I hit an AI goon, also in a Minolta, with a combined closing velocity of 504mph in the tunnel on Test Course. I was, of course, going the wrong way :)
And did AI thug take any avoiding action when confronted by a toyota doing over 270mph and popping a wheelie and thus being in no position to steer? Did he perhaps brake, or change course, to preserve his lead in a race for 20000 credits?

Of course he didn't

So basically to go faster i have to get a spoiler? I don't understand all that gear stuff....

To get that fast you have to,

Have maximum rear downforce, minimum front downforce, 0 traction control and asm, lowest rear suspension and high front suspension, maximum gears and maximum nos.

Go to the test course and drive round the first corner, as ur car gets on the straight, start to use nos and u should see about 360- 370 mph, i will post my settings for the toyota gt1 tomorrow where i have managed 379.5mph

:)

These setting are very vague and will pm the settings tomorrow

Several factors affect the top speed of a car - but assuming you have enough power to overcome the wind resistance (the #1), you're limited by your gears alone.

If a car is geared to do 120mph then the maximum it can possibly acheive with the wheels driving the car is 120mph. It doesn't matter if it has 100hp or 1200hp - it'll NEVER break 120mph unless it is dropped off a cliff or pushed along by something faster.

To get a HIGHER speed you must make the numbers on your gear ratios LOWER. If you don't fancy mucking about with individual ratios, play around with the Final Drive ratio - the lower the number, the faster the car will get. Eventually you'll reach a point where either the car doesn't have enough power to overcome the gearing or it doesn't have enough power to overcome the air resistance. That will then be the MAXIMUM speed of the vehicle.

AutoGear is another good thing to play about with. There are 10-20 pre-programmed sets of ratios (excluding your Final Drive) which you can select. The LOWER the AutoGear number, the LOWER your top speed will be but the BETTER your acceleration will be (and vice versa). In fact, just by playing around with AutoGear and Final Drive you can acheive 99.99999% of your optimal gear tuning - no fiddling with individual ratios.

The excessive speeds people are talking about here are due to a glitch in GT's physics. It's known as "The Wheelie Trick". It has no use whatsoever on a track, just a top speed run on the Test Course.
