Why can't we revert weight and engine upgrades?

Every upgrade you can just put on and off; except for these 2 ( think the carbon hood also you can't remove; same with the built in chasis).

But, why? I know tons of people like to play with stock cars; even buying 2 cars to have 1 fully modified and the other in stock form.

I only get upgrades now if I can revert them; not one of my premium cars (standard i don't care about cause i don't drive them) has engine or weight reduction on it.

except for the ones I was really curious with, in which case I had to buy a 2nd copy!

PD if your listening, please consider adding this in. I don't want to hear about realism, there are so many things that is far from real already in this game that this would be just a convenient update.

You can add weight, although only 200 kg... and you can restrict you engine... I know that's not what you want but there is a little possibility to reverse it.

But about the 3 weight and engine stages, all you will get to hear is the realism point! Everyone knows that there are other things not realistic, but on this very thing they are ;)

So I can't put stock camshafts back into a car once swapped out? I can't reinstall seats, padding, airbags, and a stereo?
The only one I could argue for at all is the chassis reinforcement, and even that is usually a brace, which can be unbolted, or even extreme cases, you can cut the welds. 👍

To add to the OP, also don't forget when race modifying a car, why can't one use sports or semi-racing suspension? For some of the lighter cars, especially when race modified, it's just to bouncy, and I hate tuning.

But let's be honest, PD hasn't re-developed their "tuning" portion of the game since..... have they ever changed it? I mean aside from racing modifications which took a 10 year hiatus.

The 'realism' aspect of reversible engine tuning can easily be addressed by changing the description of the tuning. For stages 1-3, the description can say that you get a new engine with those modifications. Then, when you would like to go down a level or revert to stock, the description could mention that you are changing engines.

Racing teams use different engines for different conditions all the time, and this sort of tuning/option would not be out of place in GT5.

This really bothers me as well. I ruined a lot of my good cars in the beginning of the game with stage 3 engine/weight or chassis reinforcement. I would gladly pay to drop in a stock engine or reinstall the original parts and remove the braces. Why can't I just buy the stock parts back? -.-

You bore out the engine in engine tuning...

Ok, if that's the case; whenever you change your exhaust you shouldn't be able to use your car for a couple hours while they change it out.

this is a game, I would like to revert my changes so I don't have to have 2 of each car if i want to see what it's like fully upgraded.

So first you balance the engine to make it run smoother, and then you decide "hmm... I want to unbalance this thing again".

Really, just buy two cars instead and tune one and let the other be...

EDIT: Engine swap sure would be nice, but to have that replacing the tuning of the actual engine would not really do the trick for me.

EDIT 2: To the above post, yes this is a game and the rules says you can't revert permanent upgrades ;)

There is no reason other than PD hates you. I love GT5, but the little things like this that really serve no purpose other than to annoy the user really shows how out of touch PD is.

That works for premium cars, since you can buy as many as you want. Not for standards though, you have to wait until one pops up in the UCD again. And unfortunately, that means 80% of the cars in game.

If people think it's realistic to not be able to reverse some of the upgrades, then it should also be realistic to swap the engine for a stock one when you screwed up with the upgrades, like a real team would do. For a fair amount of cash of course. 👍

exactly, if I wanted realism I wouldn't be playing a VIDEO GAME

Only part of a simulation that I want, is the actual driving itself.

As for deciding how I want to enjoy that simulation; give us options, don't taketh away.

If it was realism you wouldn't have to pay money to REMOVE parts from your car. Sorry, just being honest

pay money to remove the parts? well who's removing them for you, do you have your own garage and work solo? in which case to remove anything will take time

time is money :P

in other words, if you want to remove some parts and don't own your own garage; then you will have to pay a shop to remove the parts and install the original.

but that's in real life... and one thing we both agree is that part of real life can stay out of Gt5 :D
