What's the point of the car wash if there is no dirt accumulation on the cars on the current version we have? maybe the patch will fix these things up :indiff:

Well...for starters, there IS dirt accumulation on the cars in GT5.

Also, you would want to wash the car because 1) It makes the car look better and 2) When wind hits a glossy surface it moves over the surface better than if it were hitting a surface covered in dirt. Therefore, increasing the speed of the vehicle. It may a miniscule ammount, fractions of fractions of seconds, but when your racing, fractions of seconds are what sets the winners apart from the losers.

So, in short, you can win in style, as opposed to loosing with a dirty ride.

I believe in the older versions the cars actually lost their glossy shine after a while, that is all the car wash did before but now with dirt accumulation it'll have a whole new purpose.

Yea I remember in GT3 and GT4 the cars would look a little dull after a while and they would get that sheen back after washing. However, I don't buy the 'air moves better over the car resulting in better laptimes thing' in real life ok, but there is no way the game takes this into account.

Did anyone ever experiment doing a high speed run in a dirty car and then washing it and doing it again in GT4?

Well..I was referring to real life...and GT5 may just indeed take it into account, or it may not and may just be for the look of the car. No one will know for sure until we all play around with the game Wednesday morning.

But I do race autocross...and have been racing for about 10 years, and I find it to be very minute in its results, but it is indeed there. Do some wind tunnel research and you will see that what I say holds water.

I have no doubt thats true in real life... just highly doubtful it will be incorporated in gt5 =\

True... :)

Would be cool if it was though. Maybe if we wash our cars in GT5 we can pick up some of the chics in the crowd? Oh, forgot....they are all male in the crowds lol.

Yamauchi is a certifiable car-nutter. It wouldn't surprise me if closing the GT5 glovebox improved the car balance...

I've seen dirt accumulation on the car in TaxiGamer's live stream few days ago, so it's definately there. It takes a while though, think it were 2 laps of Eiger K Trail and I noticed it near the end that the car was dirty.

I think in the Stealth McLaren vid we've seen, the person playing already did a few laps or something.

MythBusters' golf ball car anyone? :)

yeah but didnt they found out, that the differnce in dirty vs clean car is so minor that its not gonna make a difference at all?

howeve,r yes the small golfball scoops does have a fuel-advantage.
not that its gonna be an option to put 200kg of clay on your car? :P

Think of it this way.

Do you see JGTC, NASCAR, GT300/500, etc. teams entering their cars all dirty?

I did about 10 laps of Eiger K Trail in my Celica gtfour earlier and just washed it and noticed no difference.

The squeegee sound effects are definately worth the 50 bucks tho!

I've done at least 10 laps of Eiger K with a white STI and nothing. Still looked shiny and clean to me.

It's like taking a shower or bath, you need to stay clean to look good. So, as your car to look good after a hard day's race.

lol :D Does the guy stay in the kart while they wash it?

I haven't really messed with this - but, then again, I have yet to race on a dirt course anyway.

Btw, lets say you DO NOT race on a dirst course with a certain car, will it still accumulate dirt?

If you drive off the road into the grass, you will. Since, you would be driving fast enough for the tires to pick up the dirt in the grass sections.
