Why did they scrap the Tuning Screen and Performance Points from Prologue?

I mean they really were spot on perfect. Easy to use, the PP's were a great way to set up the race restrictions(He he tho I know I pissed off ALOT of people in my Clio and started a trend with it :sly:) I was getting so cocky with it I was driving thru the pits and winning from there(Yes I have pics)

Not too mention the fact it allowed you to save 3 setups, again PERFECT!

I just don't understand why PD would not use what they had pretty much nailed as a bang on perfect system. Good for offline and online play.

Because for the reasons you stated, it was horribly unbalanced and by using a slow car you could max it out to be on R3 tyres whilst theoretically faster cars couldn't and got beaten.

They had not yet added actual tuning parts.

Both fair points actually.👍

Still wish they would let us save multiple setups. That was a very great feature.

The Performance points should have been carried over for online play as well as the ballast weight and multi setup options. The power adjust was an arcade mode type of thing to offset the lack of upgrade parts.

While the screen is pretty in GT5 GT4 tuning page was better. Add performance points for balancing races and they would have had something.

People who drove the Clio are immature newbies that ruined online.

PP system made a joke of sim racing and was removed. The feeling of the original car was lost

HP and weight restrictions are fine

Sorry you can blame me for that...I gave up on online as I just was getting bored of winning. There were only a few really fast guys that made it fun but because of the random matchmaking it lost the fun.

In my defence I was able to do it with the non tuned version as well.

Found a blurrry cell phone shot I took.(Yes this was well after the Clio thing had gone crazy so I decided I would still beat them with the regular one)

Personally, I'm fine with the tuning options as they stand in GT5. We don't need to go back to an 'artificial' system like Prologue where you can arbitrarily add or subtract engine power or weight with a click. HOWEVER, I wish they would add some sort of a mathematical PP formula and apply it to all cars and the number would rise or fall depending on what changes you make. To me, this takes the best of both worlds.

As it stands, it could be used to set PP caps or at least guidelines for off line mode and it would go a long way to more sophisticated 'matching' on line where right now there is simply too much disparity with simple weight and hp restrictions. If you select a car from your favorites in an online lobby and find out it's 50 pp too much, you have the option (already now) to remove your race exhaust or change your tires or get rid of the high flow air filter. Even if it's not perfect, it would at least allow more even matching than the 'guesswork' we currently have.

Now see that is a good idea/system 👍

Agree completely 👍

The problem with that is evident if you've ever played Forza 3 online, or looked at the leaderboards. Pretty soon after release people managed to find the absolute best car in each class/point value. These cars were practically required to be competitive in any form.

Downsides to any system, but after getting used to it, I actually prefer the current GT5 method over a point based one.

This system above sounds like classes on FM. However, this would lead to a situation where for every track, there is 1 car that just is faster i.e. Fuij was ruled by R35s on prologue.

To balance that out, I would suggest having the ability to make a online series consisting of 2 races back to back with the same car on different courses.

That way, it would be difficult to have 1 car gain advantages on both tracks.

I went to a couple Super GT events back in 2001, and at Fuji, the Supras always took 1-2-3 in the GT 500 class, but at Suzuka, it was always the NSX's that prevailed.

With a single race format, there is always just going to be 1 car that is faster no matter what.

I think a modified tuning system would have been best. Allow drivers to subtract power, but not add it. Allow weight to be added, but not subtracted. This is not unrealistic, restrictor plates and ballast fulfill these functions in real life. This would allow people to tune their cars as much as they like, with the knowledge that they can always easily downtune their car to any lower performance level.
