Something that I've never been able to understand is why people have this need to bring everything with them everywhere they go.

For example, my mom brings so much stuff with her everyday in the car... 3 tote bags, an extra pair of shoes, 2 extra coats, enough snacks to last several days, extra folders/binders/notepads, an entire box of coupons, a million and one extra pencils/erasers, etc. etc... It takes me about 10 minutes to unload the car everyday because of all the stuff in there.

Honestly, why do people need so much...? I personally try to bring as little as possible... when I go shopping on weekends, I usually only bring my wallet and a bottle of water. Any more stuff than that simply gets in my way.

Yeah, I take the minimum amount that i need with me. I'll never see why people take so much junk with them when it's unlikely they'll need it all in the same day.

Dude, she's a woman. I thought it was mandatory for all women to be like that.
Well, actually, my original idea for the thread title was "Why Do Women Carry So Much Stuff?", but I figured I'd come under fire if I said that. ;)

Heh - I remember the line from Marge Simpson - 'that's true, but he shouldn't say that'.

Yeah, what are you now, vat? 9,381th? :D

Back on-topic...

...My mom does the exact same thing, Sage! Her car is filled with pencils, make-up, clothing, food, notepads, and what-not. And of course her purse is always filled with a lot of junk, too...

When I'm out of the house I always carry loose cash, phone and a headset. (Oh, and a certain COUGHApple product.)

st 9,381st. :)

When I go out (I don't get out that much, I guess you could call me a loser/loner/geek and whatever else) I usually take a backpack with a jumper (Murphies Law is a pain in the ass, so I take one just in case), the phone, my MD player and discs, and a bottle of water or my wallet. I rarely carry anything in my pockets, bar my asthma inhaler.

Actually, I'm on the improve - picked up 18 places last week, handy when both drivers make points.

I tend to carry a bit of stuff to work (phone, wallet, keys, any work I took home, gym gear, that sort of stuff), but if I'm heading out on the turps, wallet and front door key is all I carry.

Aah, keys... I only carry the key to my bike, because I seem to lose every other key I have on me!

In fact, my parents stopped giving me housekeys after I lost my third set... the set includes the remote control for the front gate. So now I have to phone-in, each time I want to get through it.

It is women. To go to work I take my keys, wallet, travel mug, and lunch.

When my wife would come home from work I'd have to go and help her carry all her crap in.

Now we have a baby. Our first time taking him out (except to the pediatrician) will be Saturday. But I see all those beast-of-burden parents lugging all that crud around. I know what I'm in for.

I used to be literally afraid to put my hand in my mom's purse. Chances are I'd end up with a makeup smear, a dirty tissue, or a peice of chewed gum in a tissue. And it always smelled like makeup and spearmint.

Fantasy F1 has an algorithm that puts the correct extension on the rankings!

My wife carries everything around in a little rucksack-type-thing normally. Problem is, she's got one of these toy phones (8210), and it always falls to the bottom of the bag, so she's never found it by the time it cuts to voicemail.

She's really bad with luggage. I halved the amount of stuff she wanted to take to Australia, and still she didn't wear everything! I mean, how many strappy black tops does a girl need?

Normally, I'm the guy with keys, wallet, phone. Unless I'm on holiday, in which case I've pretty much always got a camera handy.

I carry a big Swiss Army knife, my keys, phone, and handheld on a normal basis. If going to work, add my lunch and briefcase.

I admit, my wife does like to be 'prepared'. Luckily, she's also very efficient, and while she takes a while to make sure everything is organized to her liking, it does mean that she can get a maximum of effectiveness with a minimum of "bring-alongs". I also have to admit that it has paid off enough times that I'm carrying stuff more and more as well. Nobody brings spare shoes unless we're staying overnight, though...
;)
I think at least partly that it stems from being a parent. Believe me, carrying a few extra things around is much easier than dealing with a bored/hungry/wounded/etc. child when you have other things you'd really like to concentrate on.

Yeah - there's no need to bring anything anywhere, excepting clothing, a car, and money.

Am I right, people?

Yay, Sage ish not alone! :D

I don't understand how women can fit so much stuff in their teeny purses... you'd think something would break or explode.

Hmm, I so wonder what that could possibly be? Couldn't possibly be an iPod... naw...

With all sincerity, good luck!

I carry as little as possible most of the time: spectacles, testicles, wallet, and watch. And keys with a Swiss Army knife attached. Maybe a hat if it's raining.

The funny thing is, when I go on a trip, I usually over-pack for some reason. There's always a car-mag, two books, paper and two pens, camera with extra film, CD's, headphones, and some other absurd crap...half of which I never use or give a second look until I unpack.

I do this, too. My rationalle is that I don't want to end up wishing I'd brought something I didn't, and I can't know what I'll want until the time comes.

As the Boyscouts say: Be Prepared.

Yeah, that's what I adhere to. You never know if there will be a break down, the power goes out, flght delay, etc. If I'm ion a trip away from home, I'm on vacation, and therefore, I should enjoy every moment.

From Dictionary.com:
Algorithm: A step-by-step problem-solving procedure, especially an established, recursive computational procedure for solving a problem in a finite number of steps.

Perfect example:

Guy carry around a wallet if they need to bring something around.

Women carry a purse that's the size of most backpacks.
