They post pics of thier cars, but take the time to blur/cover their plates.
WHY? If you don't realize it, thousands of people see your plate every time you drive your car. Covering it online does nothing. I too use to blur my plates when I first started posting pics but then I came to my senses that there's no point in blurring it for people online if tons of crazier people see it when I drive.

All you insecure chaps. 👎

I think people blur the tags on their cars because anyone could use the plate number to track them down and steal their car.

There's not much you can do about real life. But you can limit your exposure on the 'net, so why not? I've had real-world issues with people I've ticked off one way or another on message boards... so there's no reason to give them more info than they need.

In Switzerland your registration plate (licence plate, whatever) is assigned to YOU, not your car. There is a database of plate owners - tick someone off on the net (or on the road for that matter) and they'll be round your house.

I blur the plates because I don't want my car to be identified to me. If you think about all the people that see your plates on the road, they're all strangers. People on the 'net are not strangers. They're people who have a connection to you, and are probably fairly likely to come up and say hello if they see you filling up at a petrol station.

Whilst I'm not fundamentally against chatting to someone I met on the 'net, I would at least like to have some form of control over it.

Well, Giles, to soothe your worry, I doubt that people here would memorize a person's lisence plate-number just so that if they happened to see it in a gas station (which is unlikely) they'd be able to jot over and say hi. I'm actually not too sure about that, with some of the people on this forum you'd never know...

I don't. A license plate is public viewing domain; there's no sense doing it. That said, I have a bunch of kick-ass personalized plates, and I'm really proud of the hours and hours of thought it took me to come up with them. Though looking at my own cars, as MazKid told me, all the pictures are from the dealers' websites, so my plates can't be seen anyway.

Europe, I can see, for a variety of reasons - some countries more than others. But here, plates go with a car and they can be replaced for any reason with a plate of a different number.

I don't blur the license plates out on my own cars. I blur out the plates of my parents cars, or any other persons car I know - simply because I don't know if they mind, or not.

With that having been said:

There. Now memorize them so if you're ever in SC and see me rolling around, you can come talk to me. Or you can come jack my cars. Doesn't bother me. I've met a ton of people from the internet.

Damn you with a frieken Cobra. I hate you now! Too bad I'm not in the US or I'd try to steal it;)j/k

I suppose if you DIDNT blur out your plates and was actually doing something ILLEAGAL, (drifitng, burning t's, hitting someone, transforming into robots) it becomes evidence at that point. might as well blur your face too, that is if your just as smart to do crimes in the first place. >D

useless note: In japan your plates are registered to the car...forever.
At least until you move (theres your prefecture on it where you live too). There may be few who has the means of reading kanji and tracking you.

Josh, why did you blur the bottom of the Lexus's license plate holder? And how did you manage to get two words? Or, one word, and one semi-word. And when are you trading that GS300 in for a '99 RX300? There's one for sale two houses away, though I'm at my wife's parents house, so it's in Colorado.

Innapropriate/offensive material. I'm classy like that. Don't ask.

Err, what? RUE, and SEN? Wtf? That's just what they gave me.

Never. If I traded it in for an RX300, it would be one newer than '99. Damn. Now you have me thinking of RX300's again. I've loved them ever since I got some as loaner cars.:( They rule.

I'm actually thinking of buying a Vette pretty soon - so I can be like you, of course. Except it won't suck ass, and it won't be like 20 years old. Right now I'm deciding between a '02/'03 Z06, 96+ Viper GTS, and a Supra. I'm leaning towards a 'Z' at the moment, but I don't want to regret not buying a Supra - like how I regretted it when I bought the Cobra. Blah.

Hey - want to buy mine? I'm in a holding pattern until the 2005 CLK55 comes out at which point I'll move the 2004 down to Tennessee and get rid of the Corvette - but nobody ever drives the Corvette now, so I'd get rid of it early. Frankly, it's quick - 330bhp and a 6-speed manual transmission makes it the second-most powerful and second-quickest C4 produced (behind the ZR1). I'd give you about $20 off, too. $30 maybe.

ZR1 = teh slow. So I don't want anything slower. If it doesn't have 600hp+, I don't want it. But with the $20-$30 off, it is quite tempting.

Dude, the Grand Sport does 0-60 in under five seconds, and the ZR-1 had seventy more horsepower. ZR-1 is slow? You're out of your damn mind. Find someone to buy the thing.

Rue is street in French, don'cha know?

Um, you know it's an English word too, right?

"SEN" is the coolest word of all time; when I was in college I had plates personalized to say "SEN 1"; every time I did something illegal in front of a police officer, all I got was a headlight flash or a horn - they didn't want to pull over a senator. :D

its safer just incase some of the gtp members finds out where you live and want your car OUR YOU and because it makes people feel more important like the president

That's the dumbest thing I've read all day, and you made me read it twice.

Like I said before, if anyone wants to drop by my house I'll let em. I know of 1 or 2 people that live in the STL area that are on GTP, and I rarely see them post. Everyone else is hundreds of miles away.

Jordan, i'm highly impressed with your selection of wantign to buy a Z... If i were to pick between a supra and a Z, i'd pick the Z. One reason, because im a big fan, and the second, because the Z's handle better.

Now, buy the Z! Do it for me, jordan! Get my dreamcar and take a picture with my name on a piece of paper on the window.. It'll become my permanent desktop. :D (Haha.)

EDIT: Oh, and jordan, i never knew you were rich.. Thats a beautiful looking house! (From what i can see.)

Dude. Put the beer down, and walk away slowly.

That was me who said that. Not Jordan. And that's my house. Not Jordan's. Jordan drives a big pimpin' red G35 on dubs(well, stock wheels for now, I think. Soon to be 19's), and lives in a big ass house in Kentucky.

I really do want a Z06, but I don't want a slower car than I already have. Thus the reason I wanted a 600hp+ single turbo Supra. Now, if I can find a procharged Z06, or a Z06 with a cartek heads/cam package, or something, I'd jump all over it.

Yeah, you can definitely find out a lot about a person with their license plate, if you have the right connections. I've seen it done.
