Why do so many people hate the special conditions races?

I find them to be amongst the most fun and challenging. :)

Hardest race/most satisfying win yet? Umbria Hard Reverse vs. Maxi Turbo. I was driving a Dodge Ram, fully tuned, with S3's. Now this is where I could have shot myself. It wasn't until after 60 losses and my first win that I discovered racing slicks could be used. :banghead:

Yeah, the 5 sec penalty is a pain overall, but sometimes I actually found it to my advantage. For instance, Grand Canyon Hard Reverse, the hairpin right after the starting line? Take the penalty and whip around rather than slow down. It helped me.

For the normal configuration, the e-brake came in pretty handy near the actual clifftop. Rather than sliding to the side normally, a quick pull saved a bit a time.

I'd love to hear all your stories, so bring 'em on! :D

oohhhh grand canyon... my old enemy... That one (all three of them) is a real pain. I completed almost all races on tarmac and very few on loose surfaces. Now I don't even try because I get angry and start damaging everything around me :D

I found myself just buying interesting cars and driving hundreds of miles on them. Only 53% after 2100 in-game days.

I used to dislike the special conditions because the rally felt so slow when turning, then I learned how to rally properly and had a lot of fun doing them.

^ +1

When I first started GT4 I really disliked the special conditions races and generally slid into every wall in sight. But when you slow down and drive the dirt and snow tracks properly they are quite satisfying. I'm actually A-specing the Special conditions hall at the moment, anything 200able will be in the 200 point sub forum with a week or so.

Because they are boring. It's no fun to drive long tracks like Grand Canyon and Chamonix all over again, and then again in reverse :grumpy:

I loved these! I agree with you, how come so many people don't love them!

They're short, they're worth lots of Cr. and most of all, they're fun! (In my opinion)

Boring? What car did you use? Geez, these races are anything but boring. Nerve-racking, challenging, exhillirating, frustrating? That's more how I'd describe them.

Personally, I didn't "hate" the Special Condition races, but at some points they annoyed me. The whole 5 second penalty mostly. Here I am trying to do my best not to hit my opponent, but he's allowed to slam into me all he wants? That never made sense to me.

Other than that (like I said) these were some of the best races of GT4. I used a wide variety of cars to do them...not just STis, Evos, and Audis, but also the full-size trucks, Dodge Charger, '69 Camaro, Spitfire, 240Z, and a bunch of other cars & trucks that only added to the challenge. :dopey:

I love the special conditions races. I don't like the 5 second penaltys or doing 5 laps in Grand Canyon and Chamonix but the races are always fun.

I hate it because it's stupid and unfair. The A1 bumps you, but you get the penalty. Silly. Till today, i'm at 90+% completion. Some of the rally tracks at the Special Condition, still uncompleted.

Dodge RAM until the medium level Ice Arena, from which onward I did 'em with an Impreza Rally Car.

As for the boredom, I just don't like driving the same tracks over and over, as I said on a previous post - especially when there's also the reverse versions.

Bro I agree that the special conditions races are probably the greatest races in the game...
I have the most fun on them, rally races on ice, snow....it's awesome, and it's more challenging.
Also, the cars you win are beast.
IDK why people dislike/hate 'em.
Maybe because they can be extremely difficult at times, even if you have a car wayyyy above the class of your opponent's..

I don't like it the whole driving a car on a rough or slick surface I like having complete control over the car Im driving

Well there's your problem. I barely notice I'm doing the same courses over and over because I was too busy trying to stay ahead of the enemy! And really, you only do each course 3x in each direction: easy, medium, and hard. It's not like you have to race each course 10x.

I've used a Ram for all the Special Condition races, easy to hard. I also drove a bunch of rear-drive and even front-drive cars. I never used one of the full race cars, if I had I'm sure it would have been a borefest, me blowing away the Ai over and over. I'm not bragging, I'm merely pointing out that sometimes the weapon you choose makes the fight much livlier. However you spell it. Livelier? Argh. gotta look it up.
