Why do upgraded exhausts make cars sound so ricey? (Like bumble bees)

I swear, I've had many cars sound like rice rockets once a race exhaust is fitted. Particularly the 07 BMW M3. The exhaust LOOKS and SOUNDS like complete @$$. I often revert back to the stock exhaust just to avoid hearing that rasp.

On the other hand, one car that does sound SWEET is the IS-F. So far, best sounding car in the game. PD also nailed the transmission shifts on that car to the tee. So much fun on the nurburgring. An upgraded exhaust on the IS-F doesnt change the notes that much, thank god. But on the M3? It's enough to not make me want to drive the car. Sounds SO horrible.

Yeah I got a m3 for an event and couldn't stand it(not only sound the way it drives too). I ended up getting an r8 which wasn't much better though it has epic crash damage.

Viper and Italia sound good.

I am sure patches will fix the issues for sure. what kind of sound do you have, is it 5.1 or 7.1? I use 7.1 and man let me tell you, it might be just me but it sounds really good compared to my old 5.1 that I had before. Try changing the audio settings maybe in the game or in your audio setup and see if it helps.

I put a racing exhaust and manifold etc. on the '71 Mustang Mach 1 and THAT certainly doesn't sound like a rice grinder - it's pretty awesome :dopey: I've got a BMW with stock exhaust and it doesn't even sound like an engine. I don't know what it is actually. Don't imaging fitting racing exhaust would be much of an improvement.

I was impressed with the improved sounds in GT5 until I put a sports exhaust on the Ram. It was horrible, sounded like a 4cyl. I was also in race (muscle cars at Monza?) with the Shelby GT350 and it had the same exhaust note. I had so much hope for the sounds this time around and overall, I've been impressed with the improvements. As of now, I've sworn off all exhaust upgrades.

I have a Shelby GT350. Its modded to 575hp. The racing exhaust on it makes it sound absolutely beastly. Other Mustangs shall quiver before it! No really though. For the GT350, with all HP parts on it, the car actually sounds. . . Muscular. Its sound powerful, like its going to rip your head off. Probably cuz every time I try to drive it, it does.

Lol, for one these are just racing exhaust pipes, to be realistic, if you run pipes with no muffler to the rear of your car the noise is not going to be pretty. Think empty can with sound bouncing around in it. Real race cars have almost no exhaust pipes that run to the rear of the car, they are usually side exit and they are loud as hell. BMW E46's sound a little like angry bees when you rev, starts out as a low growl, then buzzes at higher RPM's, it's a distinct BMW M3 sound. I had a 2004 330xi and it has the same engine as the E46 M3, but the exhaust note is decidedly deeper and beefier sounding(still had the BMW growl). Exhaust has a muffler and it's not dual exhaust.

Complaints may be valid, but honestly those are just street legal race spec exhaust pipes, so some cars will sound very weird. Stop going off the sound some people cars have in real life, as many people run around with illegal stuff equipped to their cars. Front engines race cars the exhaust usually exit right behind the front wheel wells or just ahead of the rear wheel wells, mid engined race cars exhaust exits in the rear. In this game we slap in a racing exhaust and in a FR car it comes out the rear, thus you get weird sounding exhaust because this is what a tuned car with such an exhaust actually will sound like. It won't sound exactly like what you hear in real life as it's rare to find someone who drives around an M3 with actual race type exhaust fitted. But M3's are buzzy sounding to begin with, even the new E92 model with a V8 sounds strange, but it's unique. The V10 in the M5 in real life sounds like a truck at idle gargling water, haven't listened to the one in the game yet though, will report back.

The C3 Corvette sounds nothing like a V8 with the racing exhaust.
I have heard SBCs with straight pipes IRL and this isn't even close.

Was it the exact same engine as the one in the game? Not sure about the cars in GT using straight pipes for exhaust, but in GT they do sport a muffler, do they have bafflers, I'm pretty sure they do. That is a standard car, and it could be that the sound wasn't upgraded correctly, but for the most part they have done well. we may definitely come across many cars that sound odd in game.

Yeah, I changed the exhuast on my C6 Z06 Vette and it sounds like a 350Z. Very dissapointing. Other cars sound about right but making a 7.0l V-8 sound like 3.5l V-6, cmon now.

might not be but I have found adding air filters/intake manifold ruins the sound. I either just have middle exhaust and cat + chips etc but no intake mods. 👍

Maybe because it improves high rpm power it has a higher pitch sound. That is just a guess, the two could be completely unrelated. It would be cool if they included some real life exhaust brands with their sounds and characteristics. For example, Remus exhausts for BMW sound like a savage beast is roaring and spitting fire while eisenmann sounds like a bumble bee, and tubi sounds like a race car.
