Why do we need GTP user id?

Hy do we need this to be able to enter the online events? I have nearly golded all the a spec with my old psn address which is not GTP. I have set up a new GTP psn but I do not want to redo all gt5 again. It is really annoying you can't transfer one users data to another on the same ps3. I'd love to have all my results from my old user if on the new GTP user. Anyone in the same position and can anything be done?
 
If you mean that you want to participate in the official-sanctioned events, I think you are required to have the GTP tag in your username.
 
Yeah that's right. The trouble is starting a fresh is I will be back to level one and have an empty garage. Why can I not enter events without a GTP address?

It is just a way to identify that you are from GTP and is trustworthy, and able to discern the rules associated.

My friend, who is no longer a member of this site, made his own GTP account and ended up leveling up higher than his regular profile, so he kept that one and he told me to do the same thing. Now I'm level 40 A and B Spec, have over 550 cars, 98% complete, and thousands of miles logged on the game. 👍

Personally, I'm too old and set in my ways to have more than one PSN account. Alternate accounts have generally been a stigma in my eyes. In most gaming spheres it usually means you have something to hide or be ashamed of. But I can understand in this case the need...er scratch that...desire for wearing the same jersy: I guess I'm just not enough of a team player.

Straight forward answer? IMO Its nothing more than promoting the site.
If PSN accounts were like XBL this rule wouldnt be possible.
+ I am 100% sure that the next GT will come with the same online-pass system as uncharted 3.

I wish Sony would let you change your pSN name... I'm getting a bit tired of my old one and I'd much rather not lose all my PS Store boughts + my trophies n crap
 
I don't know but allowing us to share data between accounts would have all kinds of benefits. I wish they'd let us.

Also, if they go over to the dark (online pass) side I will be TICKED.

I am tempted to set up a new GTP user and start from the beginning again but the thought of doing all the licenses to gold AGAIN puts me off!!
 
The incredibly intelligent programmers at SONY PlayStation PSN won't even (or can't figure out how to) allow a sub account to become a master account. So that means my son who used to live with us has been on his own for several years is still a slave to the sub account limitations. Some of these people making decisions at SONY PlayStation are real dum basses.

Doesn't te online pass crap only apply to purchasing used games?
 
What the online pass do is, when you purchase a game there is a key in it (like psn card).
You can play the game as much as you want offline, but to go online you'll have to activate the game by using the key.
Once you use the key, the next person that wants to play the game, (in the same PS3 or to a different one) can play the game offline but! to go on-line must go first to PSStore pay 6-7? euros. (sorry i cant remember the exact price).
Yes that sucks big time, but sony is not alone in this, ubisoft and ea also have the same system in some titles.

Nope. One pass = one account, so if you want extras for clans or websites they'll dent your wallet. With EA, damage per account is $10. Not sure what the others charge.
 
Just to inform you all, that you can run all 'offline' WRS events without the official GTP_ prefix on your account (see below). Just do the qualifier and try with the offline events.. maybe later you change your mind when you see how much fun it is 👍

There is a way to use your GTP_Tag Account name. When you're logged off from PSN, the replay file shows your ps3 user name as the driver name.

As long as you're not logged in to the PSN, you can take part in Arcade Mode and Practice Mode events.

As the price of a PS3 continues to fall and more units are installed into more homes, there will be a backlash as mainstream folks get bent over a barrel. Core gamers don't care, they/we will take a beating and ask for more. If this wasn't the case, the publishers wouldn't get away with this BS.

You know that once you activate a online pass it also works with any other account on the PS3. It's like any PSstore game you download, as long as the account associated with the pass stays on the PS3 any other account on that PS3 can use it.
 
^Yeah, if the official Gran Turismo website would make such a feature to work in GT5, it would make it alot easier for people wanting to join different leagues and clubs.

Anyone can add GTP_ to their tag, it is not policed. The real reason is that GTP is a business and forcing you to put the tag in front of your name is getting you to do marketing for free.

Lol you really think that? I doubt seeing GTP_ in front of a username online is going to send people diving for google to figure out what it is.

The GTP thing that I don't like is talking about your qualifying time gets you banned from the forum, really? Hiding something?
 
It's an act of pride of beeing a GTP registry member.
Everyone who understands the concept of Tag will understand the concept of GTP prefix.
And another thing, it's not compulsory to have a GTP_ tag, noone is forcing you (unless you want to join the Registry).

What's the point of that you might ask... well the point is to see how you stack up when compared to other members (skillwise). There are 5 Divisions with lowest beeing Division 5 Bronze and highest beeing Division 1 Gold which are considered amongst the fastest on the game.
So... feeling fast, want to know how fast you are? Do the Qualifier and find out!
 
Warhawk, Resistance 2, and probably other games have a clan tagging feature. Why other games do not have it is because those developers are either lazy, ignorant, incapable, or arrogance has blinded them to our needs.

Kaz is certainly aware, I have Tweeted him about adding clan/club tagging. It is a feature announced early in GT5's development.

To identify a person the PSN ID would be totally enough because you can't change it. No question about it.

Having to have a tag in a game where you cannot change your name is a stupid rule.
 
If the whole TAG situation was thrown out (which before anyone says i know it wont be) then personally i think alot more people would take part in the WRS and other events making it alot better.

Having a TAG in your name dont prove nothing its a gimmick.

I have a GTP PSN name and aint touched it in years apart from sending the odd car over to my original.
