Why do you enjoy gaming?

There are tons of fun things about gaming but I've found myself sitting for hours with excel and GT5 "gaming". Other times, I can just log on to Call of Duty and play a match and have a great time.

I have been playing Cityville and Crime Inc. for the past few days but now I'm bored and don't care much about the games. I'm now left thinking I could have leveled up in Call of Duty or Crysis 2.

Do you prefer that you get something out of your time gaming? Or are you just happy because you spent time doing what you enjoy?

I game to get away from the stress that is work and general everyday life. In all honesty I can think of a million other things I should be doing instead of playing games. Gaming is really a waste of time, but the therapy I get from it is worth taking the time to sit down, and just get lost in whatever racecar, war, or sporting event that is on my tv. Plus it's really fun :)

Nowadays when I'm buying a game, I first look to make sure it has trophies. IDK, gaming isn't like it used to be for me, when I would play just to play and have fun. It could just be me, but very few games keep me hooked by itself, and I find myself trying to get trophies. I guess I might be a trophy junkie.

But for the games I do enjoy, trophies or no trophies, I play because they keep me entertained, or let me do something I couldn't do IRL. Take LA Noire, I always thought it'd be awesome to be an old school detective, and it's pretty cool to play as one in a game. GT5, I get to drive awesome cars I probably will never get the chance to.

I play racing games to pretend to be someone I'm not.

Games, especially video games, have interfaces I understand pretty easily since I've played VGs for so long, so I think it's like my way to get away from the real world when I'm feeling down or having a bad day....

With online gaming, I'm pretty sure I play online either to brag about how good I am (subconsciously), and interact and socialize with friends...

Games are a good hangout activity. I don't brag how good I am offline/online but everyone has their moments. The fighting genre especially, I can just pick up and play. FPS is preferably at a LAN party or online. But if you want to unlock everything in FPS..it gets me depressed...( it seems like the same thing over and over again.)

Gaming generally gives me entertainment because I am doing things in the virtual world that I couldn't normally do in the real world. Take COD for example. Lots of people want to shoot others and blow up stuff and you can't really do that in real life unless you go to a war. So gaming is the only way to achieve this.

Gaming is also entertaining because it is challenging without being impossible. And then there is also the rankings. Everyone wants to try and be the best in either there friendship groups, country or even the world.

Because it's fun.
It passes time when there is nothing else to do.

I don't care for trophies, K/D ratios,... so long as it's fun

And as a pic nicely demonstrated in the funny pic thread: it's not anti social anymore.
What's more anti-social, me playing 2 hours of Battlefield and people facebooking half a day?

@bevo: it was demonstated some time ago, that gaming is helping people who are depressed. Gaming get these people out of their depressive state of mind and gives them a world that they can enjoy.

So games are great 👍

I don't know what I'd do without games now that we have them. I play mainly sim racing like GT5, iRacing, and F1 games. I sim race cause its waaaaaay cheaper than taking a car to a track and racing all day. I don't have a famous name or alot of money so sim racing is my way of doing what I love.

So, you could say I enjoy gaming cause it saves me money. Who would've thought?👍

Games are multi-purpose for me.

First and foremost, it's a great way to relieve some stress. Much like the reason I like to work out after an exhausting day at work. But whereas sport helps me to shut my body off, so to speak, I can use games to put my mind at ease. I'm the kind of guy who's always got something on his mind. I can't focus on nothing, and movies, books and TV shows just aren't interactive enough for me to actually make me drop my thoughts about work or other stuff that's annoying me. I can just break away from that by focusing on something that's fun to me. That's why I preffer games that are at least somewhat challenging. Otherwise, my mind's just going to drift off again.

Second, they're great to pass time. I mean, there's not that much spare time in my life to get done with, but if there is, games are a good way for me to kill an hour or two. It's more of a "jump in, jump out" activity for me than reading books or watching movies. I can just take a break whenever I want and do some relevant stuff. If I want to

Third, games are cheap. The amount of money I've got to pay for an hour of gaming is really, really small. A book is ten bucks for a fistful of days of enjoyment, if that. For the same amount of money, I can pick up some budget-game or something and be entertainened for weeks.

Fourth, even though it seems a bit controversial at first, gaming is a great way to spend some times with friends (or even my girlfriend). I enjoy playing multiplayer games together far more than, say, watching a move together. I just like to do something myself instead of passively watching a movie.

Fifth, I've always been intrigued by technical stuff. I love seeing the progrees games made from the early nineties when I got in touch with it. There's some nostalgia involved, of course.
