Why doesn't the automatic transmission work like an automitic?

My daughter loves to play GT. The thing is she is only 4 and uses the auto transmission. I've taught her to control the throttle so now she doesn't slam it all the way down and its easier for her to drive. The annoying thing since the auto transmission doesn't work properly she drives at a near constant redline around the track. I know for faster lap times you'd want the auto transmission to work as it already does in the game, but if this is suppose to be a realistic representation for cars then I would think they would shift properly. Also, this would definitely give the manual transmission an even bigger benefit as it has in real life for racing. What do you all think? Would you like to see auto transmissions work as they do in real life?

Most likely its set up like that because the majority of the cars in the game have high-RPM powerbands, and normal automatic transmissions won't get close to peak output. Would be nice if you could tweak tranny shift-points on the tack instead of just on the gearing.

Ie. Set a shift at 500 RPM above peak HP even if the motor will rev 2k more RPMs.

Or, even better, set CUSTOM rev-limiters for individual cars. They're in all the performance catalogs, so I can't see why PD wouldn't make this a possibility in the future.

It works the way a "sport mode" auto would work.

But more realistically, it just shifts for you instead of you shifting. So it isn't really an automatic transmission, but more an automatic shifter.

Yeah I'd have to agree its more of an automatic shifter not automatic tranny. It's definitely not a "sport mode" though. My car in sport mode still doesn't run at redline constantly.

lower LSD to its lowest...this helps the car not to do burnouts & lost control

The automatic transmission is set to change at the redline in all cases. There isn't even a kickdown feature as on normal cars.

It would be good if Polyphony managed to set the program to act as a real automatic would. Thats a bit off though I think as it would require separate programs for individual cars. But they might be able to come up with a program to find the best shift points for different cars and different ways of driving. Wishful thinking perhaps.
