I've always set damage to "heavy" with at least 8 laps on a course that has an accessible pit lane and yet these so called racers always rage quit on the first moment of impact experiencing damage inflicted on the first corner. This so called die hard GT fan-base had cried, moaned and even threw temper tantrums at the game developers for never having support a damage system in the series and when they finally do; the fans always want it turned "off" or set to "light" because the damage inflicted is only temporarily. It is like they don't apprehend the concept of a pit lane, just the other day I'd raced with a group of 15 (which ended up to 6 once the race was over) and neither one of them once entered the pit lane to fix their damages inflicted on the first lap or to even bother changing their tires throughout the 10 laps at the cape ring. I'd stopped at the pits 3 times before the race was over and I had won by a margin of over at least 7 minutes from the nearest driver tailing me which I believe I had lapped twice. If they take out "damage" does that mean more premium models will be available? If so, I be down with it, as "damage" so far has been nothing but an half empty feature that is not properly utilized to its full potential by the franchise's most loyal followers.

Yeah people want damage but they don't want damage....if you know what i mean. I can completely relate to your race report.

You mean people want to see damage but not feel it, right? That's the vibe I'm getting too. People have fun making their car look like it's been through a multi-car pileup, but once their suspension has collasped or their engine is dying, they spit their dummies out and quit. 👎:indiff:

I always host races with damage on full & pit if my car's damaged, like you say so many drivers just keep on going without pitting like mindless zombies, HA-ha! I love racing with everything set up as realistic as possible & think both the cosmetic & mechanical damage in GT5 is a welcome addition, albeit not done as well as most other games on the market.

I always run my lobby with a minimum of light damage and weak penalty. There is one big issue with Heavy Damage: bad drivers ruining it for the good drivers.

I almost never run heavy damage because of other drivers. It's not fair when they smash you in to a wall and your race is over because of it. Sure, you can boot them after the fact, but your race is still shot because of their poor behavior (almost always in Turn 1, after that you leave them in the dust.)

The only time I ever race with Heavy Damage is when I have a lobby full of pros, which has been happening a lot lately. But it's funny, when you have a room full of clean, fast racers, it doesn't matter if you have damage on or not, because noone hits walls or other cars hard enough to do any damage! Anyway, just my two cents on the subject. :)👍

Try setting up races with drivers from GTP.. Use your own lounge, and only your friends can enter..

If you go online in an open lobby waiting for the perfect race... I'm afraid you'll wait for ever... It sucks as bad with or without damage btw..

Totally understood, but we were just on the topic of open lobbies/random people joining. I have done a TON of online racing these past months, and am very familiar with it. Like you say, it's all about the quality of people in the lobby 👍

Not really a good option for everyone. I see this in CoD for when people complain of hacking "just open a private game and invite your friends" Not really a realistic solution.....

Me, I'm not one that uses video games to socialize. It's stress relief and relaxation for me. I use my mike less than 1% of the time, i'm over 30 years old, older than most on PSN, don't care to meet new 'friends' I've got too many to keep up with in real life as is. So randomly adding people I don't know from GTP hardly seems like a solution.

Also, you must have a TON of online friends to be able to just get on GT5 and play anytime. I still have like 10 GT5 friends and maybe 1 is ever online when I am.

So his original statement is true for most of us, a few bad apples ruin the whole experience with damage. I would love to run heavy damage, personally - I'd never need to pit if it weren't for others bad driving.

Cheers man, I'm 28 - believe me you are right in the middle of the demographic for this game, a lot of people 25-35 compromise the contingent for this category, and MANY of the hyper fast guys are in this age range. Look up my lobby, welcome to join if you wish. 👍

I wrote: "TRY to set up races". If you are waiting for random people over the world to play by your standards, I think you'll wait forewer, 30 years old or 15 years old. Does'nt matter how many friends you got "in the real world" if you are looking for a good online experience.

If you do not want to add friends (why not?) to your PSN account, it's up to you. It's not like you have to get to know them, or travel 2000 miles to hang out, right? :) What you are looking for is good online gameplay, and I provide you the best and most realistic solution.. Take it or leave it..

Hello! When I go on line always set-up hard damage, ABS only and a race with about 1h length. This set-up scared almost all "noob" drivers. I play a lot around 9 p.m. - 2 a. m. GMT. Clean, fair play races are the most satisfaction. Everyone who thinks same, free to add me on PSN :) Never enough clean fair drivers. I'm 36 years old, HS and need a good relax after hard day in work ;)

Regards

Damage HAD to be integrated in GT. Latest since GT5 I think it adds pretty much to the experience. If you are in a good and respectful group of drivers, you might not need it. In that case it´s just some kind of "respect-ensuring"-addition.
But when it comes down to your own abilities and you throw away your car because of not being concentrated enough, damage is the way you will learn from your mistakes ;) And mistakes will have quite another "impact" as well, literally.

Too bad you aren't in Poland - would love to do one of these epic races with you.

@ Crunkmiester: I know exactly what you mean. I'm lucky I have a small group (about 5 of us total) I know I can race with heavy damage and realistic grip reduction on and have good races with nobody rage quitting. I have run into a lot of people who do ragequit if their cars get damaged because they go full throttle into a turn, so they ask for damage off (and never get it).

I for one run a very non official small racing league. In our official races damage is always on heavy with grip real etc... and we have very nice races and they are quite exciting. When I host my public lobby room I race with damage set to light so as to not have races ruined by a wreckless person that I havent had the chance to boot yet.

Its quite funny regarding rage quitters as the crew that I race with often speak of how we can spot them before they ever race. They join, pick a car thats trying to one up everyone. Then when they start racing after I make them change cars (even with restrictions some cars fall thru cracks) they realize they cant cut thru the grass to pass due to real grip and penalties. They on average all last less than 1 full lap and we usually get a good laugh at that.

Good fun can be had though its just a matter of finding the right people to race with who share your views on appropriate racing.

I have no problem with damage on or off, i just wish there was some kind of penalty for ramming into me instead of braking for a turn, a penalty for wall-riding, and penalties for other kinds of exploitation/cheating. Even if it's just a black flag forcing them to pit for a few seconds would be ok with me. It is so infuriating when my race gets ruined by someone who has no clue how to drive a car :D

@everyone above me,
Totally agree with you all. Fact is, that with a little bit of "natural selection", you surely find the guys you like to race with. When I got into GT5 online, it wasn´t that easy to find clean opponents at first. But then, when you maybe have the time and join some leagues or clubs or whatelse, you know who you up with. Nevertheless, I have a few good guys I know from the beginning, who are really interested in superb racing and it´s always exciting. Those also know how to set up a good room with like-minded fellas..
