My personal opinion on car alarms is that they're a waste of money - they don't work, and they're an inconsiderate annoyance to people who live near them when they go off. The best money you can spend is on a very good immobiliser, and make sure you don't leave anything interesting on display inside your car.
A case in point: with study, buying a house worth the thick end of $1 million Australian, work and so on, sleep has been at somewhat of a premium this week. I'm very tired and need rest.
And so, at 11.20pm, I'm watching the British Open rather than sleeping. Why? Because some arsehole's car alarm has been going for FOUR HOURS. I've called the police - there's nothing they can do except try and contact the owner.
And what is the alarm on - some crapheap 1995 base model Mitsubishi Magna wagon - the last thing any self respecting joy rider would steal. If I had a tow truck that thing would be sitting in about thirty feet of water somewhere in Sydney Harbour.
