Why I hate Rome Circuit II

The first 90-degree turn is nearly blind. No matter what I do, I either slow down way too soon and go through the corner like a granny piloting her Crown Victoria through the supermarket parking lot, or slow down way too late and smash into the wall. If the latter happens, I have the added pleasure of having to ride that stupid friggin' curb which slows down the car even more and makes a hell of an annoying noise to boot.

Plus, the turn with the dark grey bricks on the road is way more difficult to master than in the regular Rome Circuit. There's not as much width in the road coming out of the turn when you go through it backwards in Rome Circuit II, so I always have to overcompensate with braking.

The last turn in Rome Circuit II, with the pit entrance on the left, is also hard to master if you're driving anything other than an F1 car. The gear selector usually tells you to be in either gear 5 or 6 when going through here; maybe it's just me, but I can never whip through this last turn in 6th gear. Either I turn a little too early and bump the rumble strip in the inside of the turn (thus causing havoc with said F1 car) or a little too late, and nick the wall with my butt.

I have raced Rome Circuit II a million times, most recently on the Italian Avante Garde series, because it took me a while to tweak the settings for the Pagani Zonda Race Car so I could beat the stupid AIs.

This "II" track is way harder for me than any of the other reverse tracks, and that sucks because it's a fun track going through it the right way!

Anyway, that's my rant. Anyone else hate this track?

I love the last corner in Rome II. Coming down the hill in an F1, I go round it flat out with out letting off since coming off the last corner at the top of the hill. Turn in at the right time and it will stick. Its a great corner. Then boom down the straigt.

I never had any problems with it. It is tough, but fun.

I was most agrivated by Rome and Rome II in the Zonda cup. Horrible car plus an overly challenging course make for hours of missery.

I can think of many other corners I like less but I've never thought good or bad about Rome II. it is just there. I do prefer the twisty section in the houses on Rome II over Rome. Though I like the straight and final 2 turns better on Rome. Though again I like the final turn better in Rome 2.

I'm new here I won't bother with my post number. :scared:

I find it hard. But probably because I don't do it too often. It's one of them classic street courses that just loves to throw 90degree turns at you.

You're putting way too much turn on the wheels. Running DS2 or a wheel? I've found that a light touch (instead of full lock) works much better when running this track. Also, the right/left/right combo off the back stretch and up to the colloseum works much better when running about 3/4 throttle with light application of steering. Slow down just a hair (try costing into it) as you come up to the corners. Use the brakes, but much before you think you need to, then coast before getting it back up to 3/4 throttle.

As for that 90 left before the hairpin, raise your suspension, and loosen it up a bit. You'll have better road contact through there. Couple that with less throttle, smoother turn-in and you'll be amazed at how much time drops off your time.

To really test this out, take a stock Elise 190 around this track 10 laps your way, then adjust at those points. You'll take time off quick.

As another point, after the hairpin, coast up the hill before you hit the brakes and turn in. If your car is stable, you should be able to slip right around the colloseum.

As for the last corner, it can be taken full out, try coasting for a spilt second before easing the stick over to the left. Again, you shouldn't need full left lock to take that corner. As you coast up to it, don't slam the throttle forward, ease it forward to full as you come into that corner.

Good luck,

AO

I like Rome in both directions. For the left at the very end of the back straight, brake earlier than you think, and don't track out too far. If you leave yourself some breathing room at the following right (as you come into the 'Down Town' area, you can be on the gas here, where the AI always wipes out and rubs the left wall. For some cars, you want to go right over the median at the inside of the 'Down Town' turn; others prefer to go wider and graze it. For the cobblestone corner, in either direction, brake early and get way to the outside, and turn in for a very late-apex line. You'll be amazed how much it opens up when you get the line right.

I'd add more, but AO already has it well covered.

i hate every track.
Why?

Each track or street course (or car) has its own set of challenges, none are unsurmountable. This only means that we are the ones who have to rise and meet those challenges.

yep i love that corner! but the rest of the track is a bit how shall i say it.. agrivating.. lol

According to a member on www.eeggs.com, there should be faces (supposedly of the creators of GT3) in place of where the hollow windows should be on the colosseum in the Rome Circuit II track. You have to look at it just right to see it. I don't know if it's just coincidence that they look like faces or not.

I love that curcuit and all the others. Rome 1 and 2 are nice challenging levels. Just keep praticing and you should know every turn, best entry/exit choices from turns and lap times.

Rome 1 & 2 are quite technical tracks.

That first corner on Rome 2 is best taken by developing a braking marker for it. I find anywhere between the last overhead sign and the first yellow turn marker on the right of the track. Flat knacker down the straight, then hard on the brakes at your marker, down to 3rd or 2nd (depending on your powerband) and turn. Allow the car to drift wide for the next corner and then nail it.

Unless I absolutely mangle my approach, I find I can usually get through pretty quick, even on a DS2 controller.
