Why is "Professional" arcade so easy?

This may or may not have been brought up already. But I can't not ask:

I take a COMPLETELY showroom stock '02 Euro-R accord to the Daytona Road Course in arcade on "Professional".

An impressive field awaits me, including two Acura NSX's. I'm surely expecting to finish mid-field at best.

After 7 laps, I've lapped the entire field, including the NSX's.

WTF?

It isnt a hard game, there are like 5 race which are a challenge but the rest is easy

Put simply, the AI is poor unless you purposely handicap yourself.

The AI actually seems better then previous versions. At least now if you go into a turn two or three cars wide, they will give room to run the line you're on, whereas before they'd blindly dive down on to you.

It doesn't take AI to go fast in a straight line. The biggest gains I seem to make on the field that should be faster then me is on the straight aways.

For example, I entered the longest part of the Daytona Oval behind an NSX in my STOCK Accord. I bet I put 500 yards on him by the time we got around the oval and into turn 1.

Maybe the AI was too afraid to drive fast on the oval?

Try loading the race using sports tires then changing to comfort hards. I know its annoying having to handicap yourself but it males it a bit more challenging. and make sure the ai are set to 10. and set abs off to make your breaking points similar to them.

The AI can't drive any version of Daytona, or the Indy oval, period. I'm not sure about Indy Roval. They slow down in flat-out parts of the banking on Daytona.

They are much better at some other tracks. Generally always slower than a halfway competent driver, but they get much faster cars to help make up for that.

Sadly, you just have to experiment to find the best match for you. You can alter what cars you race by changing your power limiter/parts, weight, and tires before loading. Then once the track loads you can further adjust those things to get it as perfect as you wish.

You're often better off balancing to the upper-midpack cars too. If you try to win you'll spend most of the race chasing a rabbit by yourself.

It's annoying, but still 1,000,000 times more fun and rewarding than A-Spec(it really is). Keep AI Agression set to 10. And don't bother trying Intermediate, all the AI drivers will be replaced by blind three-year-old children with confidence issues.

I wouldn't call it handicapping yourself, its more like setting a level playing field. Who goes into a race fully tuned against a car that's stock? I usually keep my cars stock with comfort tires, as I assume that's how the AI is equipped. I have better races that way.

To the OP.
The professional races just mean that the AI have tuned cars, sport tune maybe (not fully sure). If you want them to be harder, you need to set the AI difficulty in options, under Arcade mode. Put this on 10, you'll have way more fun as the AI is more aggressive and harder to pass cleanly.

And off the track, cars like the Jensen Interceptor and the Ford GT40 would mindlessly leave the track. The GT40 would go off in every corner of the Ciruit de la Sarthe 24Hr II in GT4 if I remember correctly.

WOW...you took the words right out of my mouth...I enter a pro race , with a Peugeot 908 HDI LMP car... figuring i'll be racing other LMP cars....and I'm always racing the same 2 types of cars..Toyota Race cars and some other slugs...regardless of the track...I've got them all beat by lap 1 ??? Way too easy!.

Are you using racing soft tires. This could be your problem. Using the 908 with racing hards gives a group of lmp cars. Turning the abs off also makes your breaking points very similar. Just dont forget to change the break balance or youll be locking up constantly.

Just do a race with the same type of vehicle for everyone. It's more challenging, and make sure it is stock.
