First, when I say Americas I mean North + South America, not just the US
As a North America resident I feel cheated by the Games producers.
What was the decent Rally game did we get here ?
The latest good rally game I purchased and saw at EBoutique was WRC1.
We missed WRC2, WRC3, RBR and so far it looks like we won't get WRC4 either.
Oh yes I forgot to mention V-Rally3, it was fun
Some of you might mention CMR3, but I disliked it and imho was not fun at all.
I still run CMR2 ( a classic that hooked me into rally games )on my EPSXE playstation emulator but hey it is getting old.
So why do Rally games producers spit on us and treat us like 2nd class stupid customers ?
Do they think we are all Redneck hot-rodders muscle-cars lovers good old southern boys Nascar drifters ? ( just to resume the kind of racing games we get here )
Or is it just because the US never produced any good WRC class rally driver so the game wouldn't be popular in the US ?
Why ?

yeah we actually just lost a SCCA sactioned event in the US because of lack of support. I guess us americans like roundy-round tracks to much. 👎 We don't like it if we can't jam 300,000 people together to get drunk to watch it. :sly:

I agree!!!!!! I'm so tired of this! It's not like I want it for free!!!! I just want to be able to buy the latest WRC and Colin Macrae Rally and be able to play it on my PS2. The other day I noticed for sale TOCA 2 w/ Colin Macrae Rally 04' (bundle) for XBOX for the same price of TOCA 2 alone for Ps2 !!!!!!!!!!! Come on! There's no decent force feedback wheel for XBOX!!! What's the point?????? I don't understand why they neglect South and North America in the first place, but why on earth when releasing keeping exclusive for the XBOX when everywhere else it's also available for PS2.

1) They must not want to sell games. already making enough profit.

2) They have the wrong idea of what people want/like in S. and N. America.

3) They might not know that Ps2 sales are still higher than XBOX

4) Their marketing department must not be aware that these are racing games and that the racing fans tend to want to drive with a proper wheel...

this list can go on and on.

I want tokyo extreme racer 3 here. I can't! :( I either have those awesome drifting games instead of the bloody rally games :grumpy:

It does suck very much to have lost SCCA rally...the only thing that keeps my thirst satiated is late night speed channel covereage, and gt3

Thanks for your opinions people.
I understands that some games publishing companies are small and can't afford to publish 1 game with 2 differents versions ( PAL and NTSC ) , so I forgive SCI Games with RBR.
Now, what really upset me is the WRC serie produced by ... Sony itself. Is SCEA so poor and cheap a$$ that they can't release an NTSC version ?
I'm afraid we American resident's will have to mod our PS2 to play good racing games ( At least we'll have Enthusia from Konami and GT4 ).
And Cosmic will have to mod his PAL PS2 in order to play Tokyo extreme, NHRA, The Simpsons hit and run, and The Dukes of Hazzard :)

I think that Sony doesn´t give a **** about South America, after all the only Latin country with official representation of SCE is Mexico. And they must think that North America ain´t a good market for this genre of game. I can´t tell since I don´t live there, but here most people love rally games, myself included.

they obviously don't sell many copies so they don't even bother anymore. I always see copies of the origional WRC and V-rally games for like 5 bucks at E.B. games. Its sad. :ouch:

The lack of great Rally games for the PS2 was the other reason I bought an x-box. After you play Rallisport Challenge 2 for the x-box you will never think of any car game the same. It is still one of the best games I have ever played involving vehicles. Graphics, sound, gameplay, physics, just an incredible game. And recently they just released some free download content containing vehicles, skins and tracks. :)

I played RSC2 on my friend´s Xbox sometimes, awesome game indeed. It has some very beautiful and realistic backgrounds, it runs at 60fps and the online mode is very fun (I played it through Xlink only).

What I didn´t like about it was the car´s models, as they didn´t seem very realistic compared to the tracks. And also the physics were a little strange. It´s fine when you´re running, but when your car flips or crashes it behaves weird in my opinion. But it´s still the best Rally game I have ever played.

What he said, expect that I thought the cars in RSC2 looked spectacular. I also thought the physics were pretty damn good. I got WRC3 recently, what a pile of crap, your not missing anything not owning this game.

Isn´t WRC4 out already? I saw a trailer once, it looked pretty good to me.

I don't think it has nothing to do with consumer preference... X-Box has most of the rally games in the U.S. too... It is either the direction of Sony or the game companies that decide it is unwise to bring them to the U.S... Stupid in my opinion... May be a X-Box 2 would be a better buy than Ps3 in the future... :grumpy:

Maybe, but the PS2 has most of my favorite exclusive games. At least it did when I bought it. Xbox 2 won´t have GT5 though, so I guess I will have to own both or just PS3. :P

while we're talking about games not coming to the America's, what about Formula 1. I have no idea what they're releasing in Europe, but I hate that nothing is coming to this side of the ocean, and I hate that Sony has the license to F1. I have a ps2, and an xbox, and I don't feel like paying for a good wheel, so I want any racing game I can get on xbox.

Of course o meu amigo WRC4 is out. Last week, I purchased a French PS2 magazine here in Montreal and they rate WRC4 as even superior to RBR. But of course ... we won't get it in North and South America.
Sony wouldn't even have any excuse for not shipping the game to Brasil, because if my memory is correct Brasil has the PAL ( read European ) TV standard.

It is, but we use US consoles here, so it has to be NTSC. Our TVs have three options, PAL-M, PAL-N and NTSC.

The problem of shipping PS2 rally games to Brazil is simple: Sony doesn't sell PS2 consoles in Brazil, saying it would be too expensive (truth) and the software market is not ready to pay the high prices generated by rampant software piracy (I have my doubts on that one...)

FatAssBR

The brazilian standard is PAL-M, which is not really the same as the european system... It uses the best from both worlds: the higher refresh rate from the north-american NTSC system (60hz instead of 50hz) and the higher resolution from Europe's PAL system (352x288 instead of 320x240).

But for the sake of compatibility and ease of use, we have adopted the tri-norm system (NTSC/PAL-M/PAL-N), so every brazilian TV is able to operate with devices from these systems.

Now, back to topic...
Yes, I love rally games too and it's a real shame that USA don't get decent rally games for the PS2 (like FatAssBR, I'm running on an american console too), but we had access to some interesting rally games for PC computers a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the interest on rallying is fading over here, as our real-life rally events are very amateur and we can't hold a WRC round here (thanks to a lousy management and many mistakes by the event organizers, we lost the south-american WRC rights to Argentina back in '82 or '83, the golden era of the Audi Quattro rally cars).

I honestly believe I am the only person in North Carolina (the birthplace of NASCAR) ho cares about rallying.

Bah... Most of the people around me don't even know that Subaru is a car company... (In fact, they never even heard about it)

I doubt that anyone who owns a Ford Focus knows that it was used as a Rally car...

Rally is really under appreciated in the U.S. ... Well most think off NASCAR when they think of racing.. (And usually they say it is boring as hell... Hence racing is boring or something like that)

Yeah, it's really a shame all of america gets pretty much just what the USA gets... which sucks, because the tastes outside of the US are somewhat similar to europe (at least on some sports, such as football. (yes, the REAL football, not the one that calls it football but uses the hands instead of the foots.)
same goes for motorsports, nascar isn't big outside the US at all, so worldwide motorsports are popular in evry other country that's in the American continent.

it sucks how the market ignores it... Gran Turismo for instance, has only the MPH option in the american version.. wich sucks because only the USA uses it, evryone else uses Km/h (the PAL version has the option for KM and MPH.)
hopefully GT4 will be different.

but i defenetly agree, if they are worried about selling few copies because americans are too patriotic and won't play anything that requires turning right... well they should market it for the whole american continent instead... they allready have the lenguage support from the PAL versions.. so i got no clue whats stoping them...

Microsoft seems to realize the oportunities and has started officially selling the xbox in Mexico (don't know about central / south american countries.) with FULL force, all of the new games are available at the same time that they are released in the US, and a lot of them are even in spanish.
Sony and Nintendo followed shortly after MS did that, but not nearly as strongly as MS did. The xbox goes for about 230 dlls in Mexico, the PS2 goes for... 330 and has a lot less games available...

i'm surprised it took microsoft to aknowladge the existance of most of the american continent, if other game companies don't get with the program microsoft is going to dominate the american market.

I agree... Microsoft is bringing Rally games to their system so it doesn't make sense to say that the U.S. market is avoiding games that may not sell in the U.S. ... It is more of a decision with the PS2... I wonder if it is the producers who are unwilling to bring it to the PS2 or Sony? CMR should at least make it over here since it is also on the X-box... It might be a decision of Sony because it should not be hard to bring games that producers are willing to sell in the states (On the X-box)... Well, unless the X-box has enough sales of rally games while the audience for PS2 do not seem to buy rally games....

Though to patriotic to turn right? I don't think that is the case with racing games that come into this country... THe only company that seems to make NASCAR games is EA... And if you look at any other racing game (TOCA comes to mind) they definitely require more than left turns... It seems to be focused on Rally games only (besides the Drift games... Japan exclusive games that are not sold anywhere else... And that is because the games can't find a willing distributer...)

It is extremely odd... That Rally games are not coming over at all... while other racing games seem to be coming all the time...

If you want rally games so badly, just import em from the UK or something. Or play PC/ Xbox ones, it's not THAT bad. I guess you own semi decent pc's. Only fix I guess.

What's next ? Us living in N.A. and S.A. will have to import GT5 and mod our PS3 ?
And how come the Europeans have Nascar games ? while it doesn't work the other way around .
How come XBOX has a better choice ? is it because Bill gates likes Rally racing ?
At least we all agree that Rally racing is a niche here.

Note: I have nothing against the US flag at alll, but did you ever see one on a real WRC Subaru ? it's as unrealistic as the Union Jack on Bill Elliott's car :)
