Why oh why are the cones "hittable"

I'm sure a few of you have experienced this racing in the daily races.
The subtle orange cones that identify corners are hittable targets that can be moved.
Sometimes they get moved onto the track, right under my tire - my car has gotten airborn before because of a damn cone.

Why.

Because it makes sense. :) You can disable the cones though. It happened to me a few times too. I usually enable the cones on tracks I don't know but once I go online, I turn that off.

That's what confuses me though, I have them enabled, but some people don't - which would lead me to believe that I am driving on a track with cone obstacles while others drive on a track without them.
Heck, the guy driving right behind me that doesn't have to avoid the pylon in the middle of the road might've been the one who hit my damn pylon there in the first place!

I think I can probably disable them by now, but they were handy when I was learning Dragon Tail.

Just another touch of realism perhaps. Ideally these cones should be transparent in online mode but I think we'll hear complaints about them not having collision enabled either. I use the apex markers instead, and have kept them on till now. I don't mind them at all but maybe its cause I have tolerable eyes.

Yeah, from a physics perspective a cone should not launch you into the air, which it's done twice to me thus far. Also, at 140mph they shouldn't slow you down by 5mph. You should simply cream them like their nothing. Not really the case for GTS.

Agreed, I've been launched, I've been wiggled off line, or just slowed down, however sometimes I drive right over them and nothing happens.
I prefer them to the blue floating markers, just seems weird they were programmed as obstacles basically.

If player A has cones enabled and player B doesn't. In multiplayer player A sees them and player B not? But if player B drives over what is for player A a cone, then that cone is knocked on the road for player A but for player B there is nothing there? If that is the case then IMO it should be changed.

* Either both players see cones or both players don't see cones.
* Or else only player A sees cones but only he can knock them over as well.

IMO Player B should NEVER be able to affect the cones of player A if player B doesn't even see them or gets affected by them.

See I'm not 100% sure on what happens here, no way of knowing unless I test it in a lobby.

I'm not too sure about that, cones are pretty stout. I know I would not want to run one over at any speed in my sport car.

The option should be in the lobby settings imo, that way everyone has them or everyone does not 👍

I feel like all of the GR.4 cars are already fairly low, so from a physics perspective the chances that a cone actually gets under the car should be impossible.
So it ends up being a car going 150+ KM/H hitting a rubber cone that weighs a couple pounds, it might leave a little mark, but it definitely shouldn't impact me drastically.

well it's not like they don't do damage, slow you down, or possibly get your wheels off the ground. No big deal but you can't just plow through cones at 140mph.

Interesting video, I don't think the cones in GT:Sport are as big, but I guess what I mean is that they fly around like rag dolls sometimes, then act as ramps other times.

So I guess my gripe is that they're incredibly inconsistent, sometimes you zip right over it, other times you get launched.

I had no idea cones existed until last night when one of my friends kept asking; "who's spraying cones all over the road?".
"What cones?"
"They're all over the place!"
"I don't see any cones"
"Really?! You just ran one over and make your car hop a little bit"
"Wtf are you talking about"
"You just hit a cone in middle of the road!"
"Are you on crack? There's no cones"
. . . .

It went on like this for a quite a while before figuring it out.

So if this is accurate, people who don't have cones enabled can interact with the cones on the course that other people have enabled.
That seems a little ridiculous imo.

In the lobby settings you can limit Driving Line Assist by setting it to Prohibited.

So what do people see when I hit a cone and they don't have cones enabled? My car spontaneously catching air?

I've creamed a cone at an autox at 50mph before. Didn't even feel it.

I kinda like em on the track! Most of the time the tracks can feel a little lifeless so I like that there could be a sudden obstacle in the road I'd have to avoid (although the idea of a cone launching a car into the air is a bit ridiculous)

In general i like the cones as a more realistic way of doing line assist over the lame-ass driving line that no self-respecting driver should use in any game Lol but i agree that a driver that doesnt see cones shouldn't be interacting with them. For me, i like to use them in time trial (Like something you might see at a track day), but not in races (because that seems like a bit of a cheat).
