Why such awful Exhaust sounds?

I've been wondering, why do all of my cars have such awful sounding exhausts? I love the Mercedes engine/exhaust noises, and they sound pathetic in comparison.

I don't know if standard's are as bad for this or not, I haven't tried it; but the titanium racing exhaust gives the biggest power boost over either of the other 3 (sports, semi-titanium and standard), but I know it to be over the board, anything with grunt sounds like it's being stepped on when you fit a titanium exhaust, which is supposed to have zip resistance (or low, anyway) so I'd have thought this would bring out the true grunt of a car, not some pipsqueek whine. My favourite exhaust noise is that of the Mercedes SLR or the SL55, both have a real grunt as standard, you whip on a new exhaust and it sounds just as whiney as my Honda Civic, with about 1/3 of the power...

With my SLR, the standard exhaust is beautiful sounding, some real grunt to it, the sports one then just has all of the roughness taken from it, and it sounds like just some deep chavved up Corsa sound, the semi-titanium then sounds like someone's jumped on part of the exhaust to make it sound like some grannymobile or something, I think my cousin's Matiz has more grunt in it... Then the worst culprit, the titanium exhaust, where my engine sounds like a v-tec from my Honda Civic, and a lot of other cars at that as well...

Seriously, why the lame exhaust sounds from such beasts of cars?

It's lucky I'm half decent at the odd corner and can nicely handle a 50bhp drop so I get the proper sound from a car >_>

Yes when I RM'd my corvette, I was confused why it sounded like a Nova 1.0 with a bean can exhaust! Tragic indeed!!

I just leave standard exhausts on almost everything. Its a real Shame as the ferraris/lambos sound so good standard then put an exhaust on and it sounds truly terrible.

It's unacceptable. When you start the Chromeline Cobra in the garage it sounds really nice but when you use it in game it sucks.

Didn't you know that the sound of a riced out CIVIC with a badly installed and tuned exhaust system was the ultimate car sound?
Obviously PD believes all cars should sound like the mutant offspring of a rabid lawnmower and a psychotic chainsaw!
Besides "real" drivers don't drive 400+ cubic inch V8s and V12s. Nope "real" drivers only believe in Skylines, Miatas, and NSXs.

(In case anyone doesn't get it the above is sarcasm, well everything except the part about the lawnmower and chainsaw.)

I agree with you 99.5%. Just about every car you tune and use the FC tranny sounds high pitched and whiny--the tranny sound dominates.

However, one car I love driving still sounds bad-arse fully modded--the Audi R8 LM. It's deeper and you can hear something besides the tranny whine.

Just a final thought. My Daihatsu Cuore TR-XX Avanzato fully modified actually has a better sound than most of the muscle cars and supercars fitted with the titanium exhaust.
A 194 HP 4 cylinder Kei car should not have a better exhaust note than a 427 Cobra.

Although most of the car sounds are bad, do yourself a favour and drive the Pagani Zonda C12, it almost sounds like the real thing!

I've noticed both my classic Mitsubishi Lancer and my Daihatsu OFC1 both sound like the V12 cars should o_o idle is seriously impressive on big speakers and it definitely beats 99% of all tunes cars in the game. Only cars that sound vaguely appropriate are the Range Stormer and Pikes Peak quattro, since they actually sound like huge petrol engines

I agree most exhaust notes are pretty awkward and ear-piercing. A good example is the premium Ford GT. I like how the car sounds like a NASCAR with titanium semi-racing exhaust, but the semi-racing is horrible! The sports exhaust is even worse! I decided to leave the stock exhaust on, lost about 40BHP, but worth it for the sweet sound of a quality built V8 roaring down the roads of the GT universe.

The sound of GT5 is horrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible, no matter what type of exhaust is selected.
For me it is like the main thing I would really like to see improved. Sound does so much.

mclaren f1 sounds pretty beastly with the titanium exhaust
but yea tranny sounds need to be dampened
the garbage titanium exhaust needs to be improved

Best Exhaust Sound by a clear mile is the Ford GT40 '69! :)
