I did a search for "Why do you like," and "Why Trance" and nothing came up, so if this has already been covered, I apologize. I'm just curious to see why people like Trance music. I'm in no way dissing it or anything, just a simple question. To me, it's something that goes in a fight soundtrack, and if you aren't watching a Kung-Fu movie, trance shouldn't be played. Just wondering what about Trance brings you to listen to it? :odd:

I wonder the same thing.

There are so few worthwhile songs in the entire Electronica genre, and I can't think of a single one in Trance category.

It probably gets a bad rap because there are an infinite number of bad DJs living with their parents from New Jersey hoping to make it big. There must be some good songs, I just don't know any.

Why is rock so popular? Hip-hop? Jazz? Country? simply put, it's because people like them

Trance is pretty much a derived from pure hardcore techno (Think DJ Lady Dana, DJ Isaac, Schranzer). These songs are insanely fast paced (well over 500beats/minute), and bassy. Trance is essentially much slowed down techno where almost every song written by a dj living with his parents in New Jersey sounds exactly the same.

we had a discussion on this in another message board I occasionally go to. Here's a few bits and pieces

Trance, like most genres, is littered with about 90% crap, the 10% cream is what makes it worthwhile. Take a look at the 'Everything Renaissance & Northern Exposure' thread in electronica section, these are shining examples from about 1994 to present day. Also try some of the Global Underground series (Dave Seaman, James Lavelle, etc.)

I'm sure some here will disagree that this stuff is 'proper trance' , but then again, I'll disagree with them that the ridiculous synth & vocal assaults of much of today's pop-trance is 'proper trance' so it evens out

the rhythm of trance - and sometimes techno is directly related to that of a hearbeat, as far as i know. Also the roots of it refer back to tribal rhythms - ritualistic music etc etc. It's a collective unconsicous thing

I don't know if trance falls into this category but I dig on techno because it keeps me moving. The beat keeps me awake and working hard. It's kinda like caffeine.

When I used to have a computer in my room all of the time, I used to listen to a Shoutcast trance "station" while I slept. Best dreams and quality of sleep ever.

There was a DJ on the local college station here at the University that did a trance show, and I'm sure he lived with his parents in New Jersy without doubt. He used to do a 2-hour Trance/Club show every week, and every minute of every show for an entire year sounded identical.

I like electronica, techno, industrial stuff, but stuff that's just boom-tish-boom-tish-boom-tish-boom-tish-boom-tish-boomyboom-tishtish-boom-tish-boom-tish-boom-tish-boom-tish-boom-tish-boomyboom-tishtish for more than about 90 seconds just makes me want to take a shotgun to the PA system.

I listen to Techno/Trance because it gives me an adrenaline rush. I like the feeling of my blood flowing and this style music gives me a great rush. I won't say it's the only stuff I listen to, but I do listen to it a lot.

I think it's just a matter of what makes the hairs stand up on you, that's the kind of sound that should bring you back to it, over and over. If Country music makes your hairs stand up, follow it and enjoy it. Remember, it's only music, and unlike many people have said, Music doesn't kill people.

I listen to Dance/Trance while I race in GT3, but other wise. Its useless.

So let me get this straight. You found a use for it, but since you can't think of another one off hand, it must not have one?

Your post is useless.

You forgot the OONTZ OONTZ.

But seriously I listen to it because of the mood it sets and emotions and memories it brings back. Theres different genres of it so depending what your doing theres probably a song for the situation. My reason would be the same as anyone else that listens to any other type of music.

You guys don't know what trance is so until you do stfu about it. Trance doesn't have Oontz or Boomy or Boom or any of that crap, constantly. If that's all you guys are focusing on then you are missing the point totally. That's lame Euro Dance crap. Try listening to Chicane, Aphex Twin, or Boards of Canada then you can give a legitimate answer about trance.

I listen to Trance because it relax's me. I think it's beautiful, ethereal, kinetic music that takes your imagination to levels unattainable with other genres of music. I love all kinds of music (cept for punk, ska, country, rap), and Trance has to be one of my favourites, just something to chill and relax too. I'll listen to it while on the net or playing a game, or driving. Just because it's a great substitue for ambient music.

Trance just suits me, even more so while playing a game. I love listening to Astral Projection and Cosmic Gate while turning laps at the Test Course. At first I was just looking for something else to listen to while the car redlined in 6th gear, pretty much instantly I found Trance to have a very fitting effect along with the asphalt rushing under the car.

'Jungle'/'Drum N' Bass' are the only Electronica genres I can't quite wrap my mind around. I'm all for fast beats but those are nuts.

Does Trance/Techno/Electronica even require any skill? I mean, I could make a techno beat in 30 seconds in Fruity Loops that is just as repetive and annoying as the so called 'pros'. And say they do decide to add some words to it, it's just a few lines of pre-recording 'singing' chopped and bastardized. These people need a life.

Industrial stuff like NIN is the closest I'll ever venture into the electronic world of music.

My fav is house. Nothing beats a slow groovy organ and pounding bass. I can't wait to get my 600 WATT subwoofer and amp for my car for that! Anyway, if you want good trance and other electronic music go to a rave.

Well, Shannon I have to agree and disagree at the same time.

Yes, it is very simple to create a sound file in Fruity Loops that will be much like the techno/trance you hear, but to make it standout (and this is where I disagree) to the crowd, grab their attention and keep them coming back, requires an ability. Yes, anyone could make a techno/trance song, but to make a good one requires talent, a great knowledge of music, and a large amount of time to edit sounds.

Someone doesnt know what sarcasm is.

 Stupid Ravers. They should all be stabbed in some way shape or form. Preferably with a spork or some other dull, maybe rusty tool...

Don't bash electronics. Electronics are just the instrument. Think of how Kandinsky makes a painting of a rectangle of color with the same oil paints used in the renaissance. It's not the paint's fault. It's people who do, not things.

There is great music which is either primarily electronic or enhanced by it.

Wow, that's really out there Xzift. Stabbed for liking a music genre? Someone needs some alone time.

No, not for liking the music. I said ravers. As in the faggy kids all decked out in 'candy', dancing with their gay glowsticks, whacked out on X 24/7. Those types...

Yeah, no problem. Theres like 3 living in my sub. I mock them all the time and make beeping and thudding noises, while I flail around like a retard. :)

Agree 👍
But I listen to house music too.

Looks like you're the one who needs to stfu about it. It is very much Oontz and boomy boom.

Here's a winamp music radio trance station so that everyone can listen to it.

http://www.shoutcast.com/sbin/shoutcast-playlist.pls?rn=5180&file=filename.pls

Pretty much constant oontz boomy boom. That's what gives it energy.

Stop being pussies and listen to Wumpscut

The word pus** being slang for women - some of the people on this board are women why would they want to stop?

Secondly, how do you know that everyone here doesn't listen to Wumpscut? We also just happen to listen to other types of music as well.
