I'm wondering, why is the Sprinter Trueno so popular? The car itself in konda old - you gotta admit that. We have all the newest beauty we want - Skyline, Silvia, Supra, RX7 and on and on .... I was listing this forum from the first page to the last. There's hell of a lot Truenos. Also in videos (real-life). Does this car have some special abilities? :)
Personaly I'm using an Skyline R33. Somethimes I use RX7 or maybe R34. But I'm telling you, next time it is Trueno. I must see, what is so special ...

And in your understanding - I'm total n00b at Drifting. :O I'm trying my best.

Near perfect power to weight ratio (or perfect weight distrubution) and thats about all I can think of..Initial D kinda made everyone think the car is sooo magical..

^Yeah, what he said. :D

They're fairly cheap, RWD, DOHC, light weight, perfectly balanced little sports cars. In real life, it's probably the perfect car to learn to drift with. There are also tons of aftermarket performance parts for them. It's a great car which performance-wise was ahead of it's time, but I blame Initial D for it's insane popularity in the US.

It's because everyone and their sister's-dog's-uncle on this forum worships Initial D!!!!!!! :banghead:
AAAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I admit that I would be interested in watching Initial D (never seen it), but for this reason alone, I am boycotting the Trueno. Otherwise, I'd splatter it all over my video like everyone else.

It is a perfect car for drifting (reasons in above posts).......but in practice only, for me.

Try it and see if you like it.

Hehe, that's funny, what you said xsyorra:

GT3 is really so realistic I can actualy see, how the car, that's not available in Europe, handles. :D

You are talking about Initial D. I suppose that's TV series? Like Best Motoring?
Here in Slovenia drifting isn't so popular. Also we kinda don't have any race tracks to do it. Also we don't have any Skylines, Silivas, Supras. All we have are 2 (yes TWO) imported RX7 in the whole country. Here are popular BMW's, Audi's, Wolksvagen's and crap like that... Man, you in Japan don't know how lucky you are ... OK, OK, I'm again talking too much. :irked: :D

Wait until you get your hands on GT4. VERY realistic physics. Polyphony Digital took an S2000 in the game and did a Time Attack at Tsukuba. Then they took a reall S2000 and went to the real Tsukuba track and did a Time Attack. The difference in the lap time was only .4 seconds. Pretty impressive.

Actually, I live in the States........Initial D is an Anime Series in Japan. I haven't had the opportunity to watch it yet (wife, newborn, work, and all), but people seem to go nuts over it!!!

Welcome to GTplanet!!!! :D

Woo, quick answers. It's kinda wierd ... I'm hanging on 2 forums. This one and one local. On local there's nobody, becouse my clock shows 05:00 am (morning I think) and here the posts are written every minute.

So, two more things to do today - try to find one Initial D series and drive a Trueno!!! :D

the Truneo itself is a magical car.
the initial D craze just gave some hype to toyotas "hachi-roku" making it extremely popular, and typically rare up here in vancouver.
i was looking for a small rwd 4cyl car before i even knew what initial D was, and i found the Trueno. i had my heart set on finding that car. then i was introduced to initial D, and it kinda gave the car some more personality.
a real drift (and cars in general)
enthusiast needs to know, and appreciate the core of the drifting world, and that core is the little car that fused the spark.
the trueno is a little, underpowered, boxy, simple toyota. but it is the car that "teaches the driver"(not to be too cheesy) its basicaly the car that showed us all that anyone can enter the world of drifting. its not the kind of sport that requires the best of the best when it comes to equippment.
the trueno has a soul, it has a personality. whenever i see one, i can feel its presence, its an unsung legend, a hero of the drifting world.

p.s. i finally found a panda trueno of my own!!! wish me luck, i might get it in the next few days.

a FR layout a small car uh lets see low weight and what everyone else says and cheap

I love the trueno as a Drifter car the best. I also think it has good looks to it. But Another good car to drift with is the Mzda RX-7 infini-III (fc). I just have a taste for the older cars

Japanese, the RX7 also rules the scene. I was trying with Silvia, but it felt somehow "heavy" and not-responding. I wonder how S2000 handles with its 50/50 weight ratio when drifting?

i also want to add

AE86 are old cars.. but the parts are cheap to get in japan. being lightweight.. huge amount of HP is not really needed...
huge amount of HP = more money
and most drifters in japan dont have that much money
thats one of the reason why...

and one more thing
the rear end of an AE86 is rigid because its a one piece (one solid part) differential+shafts..
so no need for thick stabilizers and fancy coilovers to make the rear suspension stiff..
this means.. cheap... cheap is important when you're not making so much money and you drift daily...

S chassis cars (S13, S14, etc etc) used a 3 piece rear end
differentials and the two shafts connected to the wheels are not one solid part.. therefore.. thick stabilizers and fancy coilovers help..

im not saying this to offend anyone.. feel free to correct me if im wrong. :)

Just as a side note, I drive a Trueno with only HKS cat-back exhaust and Home Depot oil catch can. I was driving at a meet the other day and following an RX-7 S5 T-II that was mildly modified and even though he was faster in the straightaways I was right on his tail the whole 30 minutes. So newer and more expensive does not necessarily mean faster when it comes to cornering. The Trueno has the perfect feel (not sloppy disconnected steering like a Ford), the perfect weight distribution, and the perfect wheelbase for its size.

It's because it's a 50/50 weight distribution....RWD compact car that's damn cheap, and has a huge engine bay, and can fit damn near any japanese engine in it, which is also a big plus.

The AE86 also known as "Hachi-roku" is one of the most respected car in japan. It is a very cheap rwd car, dohc, and such. It is the ULTIMATE drift cars for beginnier. Keiichi Tsuchiya also known as "Drift King" has a modified AE86, he said he love the car and its cheap at the time when he had little amount of money.

Keiichi is no doubt one of the greatest drifter of all time, he love his 86 because that is one of the car that he learn to drift on.

As of the Honda S2000 being 50/50 and asking how good it drifts. Keiichi in one of his video drifted 3 car a Nissan Siliva S15, Honda S2000, and a Mazda RX7 (FD).
He drift the S15 first, even though most drifter love the silvia s15 he just taught it wasnt his taste.. he didnt really like the S15.. then he went to the S2000.. he simply loved it he said it felt like a modified AE86 and that means alot especially when Keiichi says it. Last he drifted the blue RX7.. he is a great drifter he loved the RX7 too. so yeah the S2000 drift great.

Now, the S2000 is something I can dig on..........When I won the S2000 LM, I fell in love with it, and haven't stopped using it. It's great for high Hp drifting, and works the best for any FR or open challenge in the game. Too bad I can't get one of these at the local auto mart.

Hell Baby Yeah !!! The car sure is one ugly MoFo, but driving. Hehe, I think the easyest way to make some cool drift.

Using the SIM tyres I made even some power-slides in 5th gear. The wheels just keep spining and spiiiiiiiiining 👍

The drifting is becoming more and more easy

I always set the suspension REALLY stiff and usually use Supa Slicks for better control in the drift. But the SIMS are ultimately the best for drifting.....especially if the car is making under 450 Hp.

Then again, I'm a high Hp freak, so if it ain't making 800 or more, it's too damn slow!!!!!

New reason for AE86: Katushiro Ueo owned everyone and their mom at d1.

Plus if you've seen drift bible then you know how much keiichi likes it. If the drift king likes it how bad could it be?

That's true, but I think if Imamura and his FD hadn't broke down, things could have got a little more interesting.

;)

I'm only a n00b when it comes to drifting but im hooked on it and i learnt to drift with the AE86 and i still LOVE it. it isnt to powerful so you can hold the drifts and it has really precise steering. i cant stop using that car and i was just wondering if any1 knows a site with good drift pictures on it.

silviadrifter: you are probably right because either imamura would have beat him, or ueo would have ran out of tires. I read an article in SS about Ueo's car and turns out that in the last round, he ran out of tires and still won.
