They ain’t bad haha but there is a massive drawback for me and maybe others...

It’s getting it out. I have the foldy Playseat and it’s great when I’m in it but it’s getting it out that kills me. I live alone in a flat so could leave it set up but it’s not how I do. I work long hours so only really get weekends on GT and by the time I’m sorted I end up defaulting to the controller because it’s ball ache. I know there’s no cure for this I’ve just got to set it up but to me it’s like VR, yes it’s amazing but it means I’ve got to put the bloody thing on!
Not a rant just some thoughts if you are thinking of buying one.
That said it’s great to drive that way, it’s imersive and way smoother and for me faster than a pad.
I could have gone with a rigid setup and made a dedicated space for gaming but then I’d begrudge moving to another room if I was just in the lounge chilling and wanting to race.

Just some thoughts, anybody else suffer with this or other things that make a wheel not the be all and end all? There’s still a lot to be said for consol gaming laying on a sofa.

Oh dear...

I get what you are saying though, for the most part I alternate between wheel and controller when it comes to GTS, mainly due to me not really wanting to bother setting up the entire rig again. If I had a lot more space, maybe I would be using the wheel a whole lot more.

However, that topic title is a sure fire way to grab some people who think otherwise to get into here and throw more fire to the flame.

So what you're saying is that if you have a dedicated setup in its own room, but you are chilling on the sofa, you're too lazy to move a couple meters to play games? :odd: :odd: :odd:

And thats exactly what I have. A dedicated 'gaming room' and the living room is free from the heavy gaming equipment. Still I can play from the sofa if I want too, or just move my lazy behind literally 5 meters to my "man cave".

And still then I have to move the wheel 1 - 1.5 meters across the desk when I want to race with it. But i'm not bothered. I'm happy I have the option.

And you are saying it's not a rant. Well newsflash! It is.

Instead of saying its a massive drawback, you have 2 "easy" options...

1. Leave the wheel to gather dust and don't use it. Simple.
or
2. Try to make the best out of the situation, or even create a better situation. 👍

I plan on buying a dedicated rig and simply doing away with my computer desk and chair as it's already occupying most of that space. The rig will then become my "office".

I also live in a small condo and can only play on the weekends, but I manage to have a full time setup in the main living area.

In the corner, on the far side of the couch. When I tuck the chair in, you can’t even notice the setup at a cursory glance. It looks more like there is a computer in the corner. This obviously means I have 2 TV’s, one for the PS4 only and another much larger one for TV proper.

That being said, once I close escrow I intend on having a multi purpose side room with a legitimate gaming rig.

The real issue with FFB wheels is how loud they are and annoying for anyone else in the room.

No man it’s not a rant it’s my observations about owning a wheel no need to dive on my back. And yes it is laziness on my part, that’s why I console game so I can just chill and game or not game.
I used to PC game with elite dangerous with the HOTAS and all the business and in the end I just didn’t like the mess about to play, it became like planning a session and I’m not about that.
I’m glad you are all set up but some of us have different ways of gaming.

I live in the small room in my house and have made a setup, where my setup involves moving my wheel from right of worktop desk to the middle. Thing is I'm not really loving using the wheel.

Oh really what’s the issue with it? That’s my point in this thread, it’s a fair investment so people should know both sides.

Personally the only problem I have is the peddles. The throttle curve annoys me but I can live with that.

To be honest I bought the G29 and the wheel doesn't really bring me joy, especially the pedals. Just my opinion on it, may come to like it eventually.

In all seriousness. Wheels (with FFB and torque) are pretty bad for arthritis. Something I didn't consider when upgrading. Also did not consider their was no option to turn it off.

My play time per session is about half of what it was with my old wheel (T-80). Almost makes me think of re-learning with a DS4 to learn tracks and stuff. And makes me regret getting rid of the old wheel. Which I could have used for longer practice sessions.

I use controller, wheel/pedals, and mouse/keyboard when I play games.

I enjoy all of it. Each game and pc/console have its preferred input device.

You can chill in the lounge with a controller, then if you'd like, retreat to the cave and use a wheel if desired.

As far as my experience, the only downside with a wheel system over controller is the price. But that's also to be expected.

Some might encounter space problems in their situation. My pedals are under my PC desk, and the wheel I can just drag from one side of the desk to the middle to have it all ready in less than 30 seconds. No problem at all.

But hey, we are all different. Makes things more interesting. :p

I have a really small house along with a family, so it's hard to get time in with the wheel because I can only set it up in the living room. If I can't use the wheel then I don't really play GT at all. The DS4 works really well but I can't go back.

We are moving at the end of this month though, and I made sure the next house had a man cave lol.

Well, how should I feel for specifically chosing a cockpit that also allows me to use it at a desk and could fit on a 1x2 meters footprint space ?

I would definitely be more motivated to bring out the wheel more often if GT Sport had better FFB

I actually brought it out today and did some laps but ended up playing more Project Cars
