I've just moved house and we have swapped our broadband connection over to the new house. It was activated last week and so far every device has been able to connect to the router without a problem. Yesterday, however, my laptop decided it didn't want to connect to any websites.

It will find the router, connect to it, and then say I have internet access but no websites will load up. I've tried updating the firmware for the router and the wireless card, I've tried resetting both devices, I've tried changing the wireless channel and nothing is working. I've got the laptop plugged in via ethernet cable and it's working just fine but as soon as I go wireless it just refuses to load websites.

Does anyone have any suggestions? The laptop is an Alienware M14X running a fully up to date Windows 7 and has been using wifi without a hitch since the day we've had it!

Open a command prompt and try pinging www.google.com and then try pinging 8.8.8.8.

Do any of them reply?

*edit*
Also try pinging your Router's IP.

Google and 8.8.8.8. timed out with 100% packet loss, my router replied in 2ms and 0% loss.

It's a Netgear DGN1000SP, the standard router for Virgin Broadband customers, I believe.

Can every other wireless device connect and browse the net?

Can you connect to another wireless with your laptop?

Can you do an ipconfig /all and post the results here?

Also test with a network cable, just to make sure it is the wireless that's the issue.

We don't have another wireless network to try it on. It's connecting to ours just fine, we just can't get any responses from websites. All of our other devices are working just fine.

It works perfectly with a cable, so it's got to be the wireless. Here's the ipconfig results although I think I missed some of the data off due to cropping:

Odd that it's picking up the first IP in the range.

Try ipconfig /renew

If that doesn't work, see what happens if you set a static IP.

I was asking to take your laptop to someplace else and try and get on that wireless.

I'd try disabling IPv6, I've haven't seen that not allow you to connect to the internet but it's worth a try.

Start Button---Control Panel---Network & Internet---Network and Sharing Center--Wireless Connection (middle right of screen under Access Type)--

While there click the "diagnose button" bottom right and see if that helps.

Otherwise, go to Properties---uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" then click ok--then close out the other windows and see if you can connect.

If your laptop has a button to turn the wireless off, turn it off wait a second or two and turn it back on.
