Concept Grand Prix
From senior members of the now closed Bizarre Creations, makers of some of my favorite games of old, Metropolis Street Racer, Project Gotham Racing, Blur, Fur Fighters and Geometry Wars.

If this turns out to be true, I really hope Nintendo puts their weight behind it.

Here's the article......

In a recent article, we talked about how Wii U may be slightly lacking in 3rd party support, but Nintendo may be making up for that themselves, as recent rumours suggest that Ninty have some HD tricks up their sleeve.
According to Dual Pixels, Nintendo is working on a racing simulation game, codenamed, “Concept Grand Prix”. The game is apparently being developed in tandem with Lucid Games, a group known for their work on racing titles such as ‘Project Gotham Racing’ and ‘Blur’, which have both appeared on current HD consoles.

There is definitely some weight behind the rumour too, with Dual Pixels revealing several details about the game:

‘Players will begin their careers working for R&D Division, one of many fictional automobile manufacturers and concept design providers in the game. The title features a deep car customization element which allows you to build cars from scratch based on concepts provided by car manufacturers such as R&D Division. Using Wii U’s tablet, players can customize everything from the vehicles individual spark plugs to curing plastics on the exterior finish. Once a player finishes their first vehicle, they’ll be put through R&D Tests, which has been directly compared to Gran Turismo’s licensing system.’

Dual Pixels also provided in depth details of the Online Mode in the game:
‘CGP ‘s online multiplayer will add longevity to the title by providing monthly challenges many of which will require you to design cars to pass downloadable R&D Tests. Online races will accommodate 12-players simultaneously; you will earn points by creating cars and racing them for your company.’

This could all be total rubbish, but there is some definite weight to these rumours as you can see above. We should know more soon enough though, as the source has told Dual Pixels to expect an ‘announcement at or leading up to E3 2012′.

Its one of those spend more time doing everything but racing type games? How is steering going to feel with a circle pad?

Still sounds interesting but probably not a console seller.

I can't for the life of me see how a racing sim would fit the supposed demographic of the Wii U. Also, 'fictional automobile manufacturers'? Granted, I love the idea of creating my own car, if it's semi-realisticly implemented, but how does that fit the definition of sim? :odd:

I would assume that means only fictional tracks it won't have manufacturers licenses. It will be interesting to see how this ends up but probably not something I would be interested in.

If it doesn't contain any real tracks or car manufacturers then it's not a simulator because it's not simulating anything that exists in real life. Period.

The wii u is not targeting the same demographic as the wii did. This system is Nintendo trying to get back into the gamers market while also offering everything the wii did helping it maintain it's casual audience. Having one console that is pick up and play for everyone also having more serious games, with the power. (????) To back them up is not a bad thing.
Everyone is assuming the wii u is not going to adapt the hid controller interface, but if it does then all wheel peripherals will work with it.

I do agree with no real word stuff=no sim.
Although this game sounds like it has some high ambitions. Lets see what it can do. As a manufacturing/engineering sim it winds interesting.

That's why I think the Wii U will still be basically just a Wii. According to current rumours, it would seem that it's going to be roughly twice as powerful as the current Xbox360. The PS4/Orbis and Xbox720/Durango are believed to be at least six times as powerful as the Xbox360.

Being underpowered doesn't surprise me. But it doesn't necessarily mean it would be bad. I have gotten tons of fun out of the wii. My wife bought it for me for Xmas on release year and we still fire it up. My 8 year old daughter loves it to. She plays all the Mario's and has finished them all. ( virtual console included). She also beat both mario andnluigi rpg games on the ds. Now she's into super smash bros.
Now when the U is released, I can get her into some.more comprehensive games. ( if I buy), It all depends on customer response to the top third party titles. I have tried her on the ps3 but she prefers the wii games ( littlebigplanet excluded).

Edit: sorry to bring this thread off topic.

Although everything is still rumours I heard that the Wii U was only going to barely match the 360 and PS3 in processing power leading to many gaming journalists laughing off their chairs.

It wouldn't be surprising seeing as the Wii was only marginally more powerful than the Gamecube. So Nintendo sell you a previous generations console newly packaged but for much less money. Its an interesting approach that worked very well last time.

While I don't hold out much hope for this title being a sim I can't agree with your definition of what makes a sim.

Take Live for Speed, when it started out it had zero real cars or tracks and even now only has a few real ones, yet it is most certainly a sim.

Even the original GT (which was worth of the sim title in its day) had no real world tracks.

Most would agree that the core of a sim is the physics engine rather than the cars and tracks.
