Given the list of changes in 2.03, I wonder if PD has finally fixed the dreaded AI "suicide" laps in the Nurburg endurance races.

2.03 changes
*New themes for My Home in GT Mode.
*An option for tire wearing in Pit Strategy (B-spec).
*Simulates regenerative braking on electric cars.
*Chaparral 2J Race Car ’70: Fan down force option.
*Fixed unintended pit stop error in the final lap of a B-spec race.
*12 new colors and 12 new wall papers for My Home theme.
*Electric cars run slowly without applying acceleration.
*Regenerative braking affects the cruising distance.

For those that don't know, in the Nurburg enduros the AI cars will usually run their tires down to 0 before pitting, resulting in a lap that's minutes slower than their fast laps.

This means you have to pick a car that's much slower than the AI to compensate for the suicide laps.

This problem is even worse after the tire wear fix of 2.02.

Here are some examples from the N24 test I ran this morning:

Peugeot 905
Fast lap 8'40
Suicide lap 10'54

Toyota 7
Fast lap 8'43
Suicide lap 12'32

This results in ~14 fewer laps in 24 hours for the 905, and ~33 fewer laps for the T7

Other cars in the race that did the same thing were:
Citroen GT Race Car
Zonda LM
GT LM

I'm hopeful that this is fixed in 2.03

Yeah but why not have a bigger strategy element for AI? If a car races a lap too much on its tyres and pays the price surely that's part of the fun?

yes, but they do that on every set of tires.

I'm fine if the AI sometimes make mistakes. A little unpredictability would be awesome.

If one or two AI cars "decided" to stretch one set of tires to finish the race in one less stop that would be realistic. Even if it backfired on them.

But the way it is now is both predictable and stupid. You are constantly reminded that these are idiot robot cars that will keep looping the same "mistake" over and over.

I am thinking of running the 4H ring race soon, probably before they fix this.

What car would be good choice now, since I can count on the AI acting stupid like this?

I plan on turning off driving line to really learn the track, and I'm sure I will wind up in the grass a lot, especially earlier in the race.

I am thinking of using one of the R8 Audi race cars (09'), as I know they handle the grass well.

You really mean the 4H race? If you take a LMP car you will thrash the opposition. Fastest car on the track will be the Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo (lapping around 8.50 to 9 mins I think). The Schulze Nissan GTR would be a very good choice for this race.:)

I would like to see a fix, cause this AI is not strong enough. And this is a wrong decision they make and this would not happen in real life even a 4 year old kid would make a better pit stop decision -.-

I would like if the AI decides every race and for every car a new strategy

What car would be good choice now...

Any race car much above 500PP is going to be overkill for this event.

For all questions about the N4 race, go here. Look at the last 5 or 6 pages since thats where we talk about post-2.02 races.

R8 LMS is faster. S2k Turbo shows up more frequently though. Since the tyre wear update though they have each had to pit a lot more.

Just did a short test in the N4 race and the S2000 GT1 Turbo pitted on lap 2!!! I am stoked about this!

Also pitting were the CTR2, IS F Racing Concept, and S2000 GT1. The Yellow Bird now pits every lap.

The R8 is there for me 99% of the time when I first load the race after starting GT5. I have only seen the GT1 Turbo once in at least 2 dozen loads. The non-turbo version is often there but that car is of no consequence if one of the others is.

I was a bit upset I couldn't accomplish my goal of beating the R8 with my 535pp-ish Camaro on RH before the update... wheel issues and laziness. I finally did it now, not sure it was much harder. I made like 2 minutes worth of mistakes in the middle third, but drove quite well(for me) in the first and last. With no mistakes for 4 hours I'd have been way ahead but the same was true before. He pitted more often, but so did I. He lost 30+ seconds on the in lap instead of 40+, but had much quicker pit-stops due to less fuel burned, so I didn't gain as much in the early stops.

Sorry to double post (PS3 will only let me type so many letters) but I just read this, and are you sure the R8 pitted after 2 laps? I am 100% certain that it was on a steady 3-lap cycle for the whole race, even the opening stint, when I ran this event(2.02). I ran 4 with hards and switched to mediums for the final 3-lap dash to the end, gained two stops on the R8.

I was under the impression nothing had changed about the tires.

It stayed on its 2 lap stints the same as the Amuse for over 6 laps.
The Tires on it won't 3 keep their performance for 3 laps of the ring so AI has to pit completing lap 2. The update changed the AI it won't drive on bad tires now.

I have to do some calculations but the LMS is definately not losing 30 seconds on his in lap now over what used to be his second lap in 2.02.

The problem is that there are only two kinds of laps for the LMS now. The out lap and the in lap. The out lap is the lap that suffers the pit stop since the car crosses the start line before it reaches it's pit stall.

This evening I will post lap times and race times for as many cars as I can over in the N4 thread.

Well then I'd say that is surely an improvement, whatever happens to the actual lap times. Those suicide laps were really dumb, even though they provided me with a terrific finish on a suicide lap of my own :D .
