Will GT4 support downloading of new tracks & cars?

I'm new to the group, and following the rules, I've been searching for some sort of confirmation one way or the other on this issue, but I'm coming up blank.

Does anyone have any idea if PD are including this feature in the game so they can continually upgrade the game for the future?

I've just been looking forward to this feature for a long time and with GT4 now within reach, I'd like to know if we're getting this yet?

No, it won't.
 
GT4 will initially be offline for an unconfirmed length of time.
The hard drive is not available for territories, and is not supported by the new PS2 'Thin', so it is unlikely to feature downloadable content when online finally does appear.
 
plus if they allowed 3rd party cars, there is really no way that they would be as true to the real models as the original game cars are, so there is no way KY would allow this
 
Tracks would be nice though, cause those would not require as much consideration to design.

While it would be nice, the amount of work is gonna be alot... because of the HDD location issues and what not... :(
 
You mean downloadable content. As far as I've seen and heard, there won't be any. Would be good to d/l the online part.

So far, only Xbox has done that, and will do it with Forza. NAW!!!
 
I am quite disapointed with Sony's efforts on this matter.

With the game starting devolopment on March 22nd 2000 and ending only just recently. Downloadable cars were availabe in 1999 for Need For Speed 4. Ok that was for PC but I believe the console makers should have EASILY caught up by now.

It would considerably extend the game's shelf life till god knows when GT5 will arrive. Would be beneficial to all..........

Btw why isn't the new small PS2 non-compatible with HDD? Isn't that rather stupid? 👎 :grumpy:
 
I'm not really complaining about downloadable content. Though it would be nice, PD is supplying is with the most cars in racing game history. Some of the wackiest, sweetest, and most distinguished cars in history. They are also giving us many real life tracks down to the last detail, as well as fantasy tracks from real cities, and areas. I could really care less about downloadable content. I'll be too busy trying to collect every car and fill up my 1000 car garage :)
 
Getting a few cars downloading might be feasible but any more than that and PD would alienate the majority of its buyers a crucial part of the game.
 
yes NFS4 had downloadable content, but look at the newer NFS Series, there really is no tthe add on cars, some replacemnt stuff, but all the computer games (well most) try to encrypt their car formats to keep add on cars out
 
700+ cars and you want to download more!!?? Wow, give PD a break. Yeah they have been working on it way too long, but still they are doing a great job.

I'll bet you $20 it won't. Just because I can bet you another $20 it won't have a harddrive. I doubt Xbox Next will either. Because of children who pirate, they won't have them. HDD's make it extremely easy to pirate games, so I doubt we'll see the inclusion of HDD on the next gen consoles.

And the Thin PS2 does not support harddrive for 2 reasons. It's cheaper to manufacter without the slot, and it helps prevent pirating. They do not gain enough money off the HDD, and then to boot there are crackheads who steal games on it via HDLoader. I hope they boot HDD's from consoles soon.

Why would you want to d/l cars? What's the point? Xcsti is right....thats more cars than you will probably have in your entire garage when u actually play the game. As for tracks....that would be nice but as has been mentioned before, there is no harddrive to save them to. Oh well....maybe in GT5 though it is highly unlikly...thats a lot of extra work for PD which i'm sure they don't wanna have to deal with.

I appreciate everyone's swift response so far, and am glad everyone's been able to help me with my question. Thanks to you all!

I was really asking because I've bought a real-world Noble M400 (the really evil twin to the M3 GTO3 which is already in the game) and was hoping it would be able to be retro-included in the game later by downloading it when PD eventually got a chance to review it.

But sniff. Apparently not this time :(

If 'Prologue' is anything to go by though, they're on to another winner with GT4!

Hey there, Izanagi. Yep, I'm the lucky owner of one :)

The M400 is the much more evil version of the regular Noble M12. Where the regular car (GTO-3R which was examined for inclusion in GT4) has about 350hp, the M400 has a seriously tuned-up version of the 3.0l V6 Twin Turbo, with a sniff over 425hp and a power to weight ratio of 400+hp per ton.

Completely re-worked suspension geometry and redesigned interior save weight and improve performance considerably. 0-60 in 3 seconds dead, 0-100 in under 8. Top speed is 185+mph. The M400 variant is as quick to 100mph as a McLaren F1, but costs 1/10th the price and apparently corners better!

I'm actually still waiting to pick mine up - I'll get it on Christmas day as a present to myself :)

Oh, and just to annoy everyone, I'm only 30 years old.

For the record - this is a present to myself for years of hard slogging in a job I didn't enjoy. If you work hard enough, and choose to be successful, even mere mortals like me can get these toys ;) The key is to CHOOSE to aim high and never stop going for it.

i just hope theirs a way to get downloadable content without being on xbox live.... maybe a cd every so often....

The Noble is actually designed by Lee Noble, the former chassis designer for the McLaren Formula 1 team. So he knows his stuff. His company, Noble-Moy, is based in Leicester, England, and is a low-volume independant car maker.

Good eyesight on the boxes!

The engine block for the 3.0l V6 is from a Ford Duratec lump, hence the boxes in the background. All of the rest of the engine is custom designed. Also some of the switchgear in the cabin and rear light cluser originates from the Ford parts-bin too.

My particular car is having all the switchgear replaced with much nicer ones though :)

In the game though, I did just realise that you can probably replace the suspension and do Turbo upgrades to the regular M12 to get about 425hp quite easily... So maybe my concerns in this instance will be okay :)

But I'd still like to download newer (or much older) cars into my game once I already have it. Wish it were a feature of GT4 :(
