Will I be able to use controller for PSone in GT4

I have always used my old controller for GT3, unless I am trying to get a license, it is easier to use for long races. Will GT4 allow me to use the old controller. I have a tendency to push too hard on the X button, and have to push so hard on the button that it makes my thumb hurt.

I remember playing some new PS2 games that have a multi-tap option, yet no matter which port I used, my PSOne controller would not work, while my three PS2 controllers did. I deducted that it was probably due to the game needing all buttons to be analog, since the PSOne controller still worked with my other older games. So I would venture to say probably not.

I am sorry but if you have to press your X button so hard that it hurts your thumb then there is something seriously wrong with your DS2 controller. I am pretty sure a PSone controller won't work for GT4, I didn't think GT3 would allow an old controller which you say you can.

When I still lived with my mom, we had a single DS2 and a regular, original DS. The DS worked fine with the lack of analog. I don't use the sticks, so I've become familar with playing with that tiny bit of travel the DS2 buttons have, so I definitely noticed the lack of it with the original DS. But it did work, and I'd expect it to work with GT4 too.

But if you're pressing that hard, you need a new controller.

naw, some controllers (or thumbs) are just like that. I had the same problem with my DS2 controllers, but eventually I got used to it and my thumb stopped hurting.

back on topic - I would doubt that the newer games allow you to use the DS controller, but take the time to learn GT4 with the 2 analog sticks and you'll be a better (and faster) driver.

EDIT: or just buy a DFP like I did!

I didn't know you could play with the analog sticks. I always hit the gym before I play at night, so I don't think that I would be coordinated enough to use them. And yes, I am able to use my old controller in GT3. I just don't want to shell out another twenty bucks just to end up breaking another controller.

Edit: what the heck is a DFP?

Driving Force Pro is also THE controller to have for gran turismo. It allows a level of control that is so hard it's close to impossible with the ds2.............

Yes...the old d-pad controller (PSone) worked with GT3 and it works with GT4.

My 2nd Controller is an old DS1 controller and I've never had any problems on any PS2 games using it... it was one of the later DS1 controllers with analogue sticks on so it could have the potential to be analogue depending on the game... also I notice that the analogue button actually works on that controller unlike the DS2 where it's meaningless and doesn't work?!

PS1 controllers don't have analog buttons simple as that. Some have analog sticks, but the buttons are surely not analog.
