I drive a 98 GMC suburban, & sometimes i powerslide it out of turns or U-turns.
Now will that damage the car? like the suspension or the diff?

P.S sometimes when i powerslide it, only the inside wheel spin, why is is that?

Powerslide a '98 Suburban? O... kay?

I don't really think powersliding itself would damage anything. As for inside tire wheelspin, that's very common with an open/unlocked differential.

If it's a low-speed turn and he's pushing it around under power... not as likely.

The chance of drivetrain damage is directly proportional to how sticky your tires are.

You're just going to wear your tyres faster, that's all really. If you were actually going drifting then it seems the general opinion is that you wear wheel bearings faster, that's about it unless anyone else wants to add anything?

More grip, more stress on the drivetrain. Wheels start hopping... the shock of spinning and stopping travels up the axles to the differential... eventually, you wear out the clutches in the rear diff (if it's clutch type) or shear the fluid in a viscous diff... but with an open diff on stock tires, not much to break. Different story if you're doing competition drifting... trying to break traction with stickier tires is hard on the transmission.

That's why it's great fun to do it in a pick-up or truck with crappy tires on dusty roads. Less chance of breaking stuff. But it sucks to do with an open differential. Better on a pick-up with a rear LSD.

Only thing i see you could mess up is you transmission mostly your torque converter seeing as a suburban is most likely automatic, putting those stress's through it will ware it out a bit quicker which later youll get lag in your powerband.

Don't forget, read the AUP.

You will not use these forums to violate any laws nor to discuss illegal activities.

The damage to the car from powerslides is negligible compared to the damage to your manliness from not powersliding.

I firmly believe you should reserve it for the track/private property if it's illegal where you come from:scared:

That being said, it isn't illegal in my country, as long as you don't damage anything

Yes, there will be damage once you crash, and eventually, you will.. Especially since you're not doing it on safe environment such as track. Who knows, one day you in your sliding car will meet with some mighty big semi rig that is speeding due to being behind of schedule. Unlikely, yes, but you can't tell for sure.

Well, considering I can guarantee that this will happen:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIsL2kl1olw&start=27">YouTube Link</a>

And that tends to do damage to every type of car I've ever seen it happen to...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "Yes."

Saudi Drifting is stupid to begin with but in a suburban?!?!?! Wow. Unbelievable.

 @video

I think that a 2mph spin is ok, but if the wheels grip when you expect them to slide then you are in a potentially very dangerous situation.
