Im wondering if the New thrustmaster wheel will fall on its face....I dont wanna be down on either PD or Thrustmaster but I dont Understand a few things.

First: I used to play combat flight sims. I bought an "overpriced" Thrustmaster product before....It was not worth the money! Sloppy and poorly built spring to mind....I dont work for Logitech or any wheel manufacturer.....Thats my personal opinion.

Second: No Shifter "yet"....Like saying we didnt find the Yetti yet....Theres no promise of a shifter ever? People want the full package not something they "might" get later.

Third: the price. Ok I havent tried one yet but thats a lot of money for a wheel with GT in the middle...I still own a G25 and have driven just about everything before and after....Im talking back to spring return. I like the G25 and its a shame the G27 is worse in GT5 cause its an awesome wheel.

I Know Kaz likes to think were all racing drivers....Look at that GPS thing he wanted that would record your laps on a real race track and then you could play against your ghost on GT5. Firstly it never happened...Secondly the tracks are not there unless you drive on Suzuka or Laguna Seca...im trying to think of more real tracks here....oh the ring and le sarth....Nothing in England then? or Spain or Portugal or Canada or Norway or Belgium or Greece or Turkey or Sweeden or Brazil...i could go on!!!

Ok You think I went off topic for a bit.....No I think Thrustmaster and PD are living in a dream world...Where everyone is a race driver with a fortune to spend on a wheel.....A wheel that is probably sub standard to the gamers standard at the moment (Probably: because I stress that I havent seen or tried it yet in the flesh)

Worst thread title ever?

Anyway, it might. I'm interested in the device, but if it gets lackluster reviews then I'll probably go with something else. I doubt there's many individuals who have basically decided they're going to buy it. They've either decided it's too pricey, or are going to wait and see if it's worth the money before taking the plunge.

Well, as a very happy and long term G25 owner I "jumped ship" to Fanatec just 17 days ago. In those 17 days I have had more problems and failures with the new GT2 than in the entire life of the G25.

If you had posted this thread 3 weeks ago I might have had a different opinion than now - in fact I did, I wasnt prepared to wait fo rthe TM, I just "went with the Fanatec GT2".

I think the only way this new TM T500RS will flop is if TM dont follow the wheel up with proper support and no questions-asked money-back-returns if people dont like it - which is what retail marketing gives the consumer vs direct sales.

Even at the price it is at, and even without the shifter for now, if it as reliable as a G25 then it will be HUGELY successful sales wise.

Why? Because there are MANY upset and peeved Fanatec owners that are fed up with the company behind the product, and a retail sales strategy for TM will attract those with the money away from the only other midground player in the market place.

We where all shoe-in customers for Logitech because they had the shifter/clutch/900* FFB wheel in one package from day 1 - we are now a shoein for TM because the other player in the market has burned so many people.

While we need to wait and see, TM would really needed to have told terrible lies about the T500RS for it to not somewhat meet the hype and be a success - even at 600 big ones.

You have made some very good points.

While I am currently using my DFP from GT4, I have been researching a new wheel and the GT2 is what I have been leaning towards. The cross platform functionality is a big selling factor to me, other wise I would have just gone with a G25/27. What types of problems have you been having and what responses have you received from Fanatec? If I could just have one wheel it would make things so much easier, not to mention a quality one for 360.

We are running the risk of going offtopic and earning infractions, but I will keep us on topic ;)

I highlighted what drew me towards the GT2 - and the issues I have had have mostly been the wheel not "syating detected' on the PC. Or simply shutting down on the PS3 or deciding midgame to cock itself 90* left or right. All the issues require powering off powering on to reset them.

The bottomline isthat the GT2 is perfect when it works... and that is really all the T500RS will have to do to beat the GT2, simply work reliably.

That I think might end up being the T500RS strongest selling point and keep it from being a failure. The will make no sales to people who are looking for XBox360 wheels, but then they never even suggested they wanted those sales at all.

Thanks for the reply, and apologies for veering off topic.

Being that the Thustmaster will have full support, and GT branding, it could be assumed that the problems plaguing some other products will not be present. It would be very likely that PD has shared knowledge with them, and vice versa, in order to make theirs the most quality product that they could provide, obviously not guaranteeing it to be the best overall wheel, but one that would be highly functional and competitive with GT5.

I don't think that the price would be as big of a determining factor in its success. It is not aimed at the majority of GT5 owners and is probably priced to reflect a lesser quantity of production units than a typical gaming peripheral.

Its success should depend on its build quality and how it compares to or improves on what the current high end wheels can already accomplish.

I just hope Fry's gets a couple in. Buy on Friday - play Friday night and Saturday - decide if it goes abck Sunday or it stays forever :)

I'm wondering why a new thread was needed.

It seems to becoming clear as more info arrives that if you want the best wheel for GT5 then the GT500 RS is the one.
