both these operating systems are the new benchmark in OS development and i was wondering if anyone could give me any info on the performance and stability, OS features, application support, hardware support, usability and technical support from a multimedia perspective.

any info is much appreciated guys

I don't know anything about macs  I have only been on one in 1998 and that one was from about ten years before that, seriously  I wouldn't mind some info on that stuff too.

I know one thing for sure is that XP is rock stable with games. If your game does crash, it's a hardware problem, like over heating, not XP itself.

Last time I've been on a Mac was way back in 7th grade. I was using it for some CAD program. It was running on OS 6.46.6493.46.97 blah blah and we need a manual to run it because it was so different from Windows 95. Though, I have to admit that it ran very quickly and it never crashed once.

As stated, both OS's are rock solid. The deciding factor would be two things:

1.) What your main application would be.
2.) Cost of hardware.

a.) Lets say you have no budget and the skies the limit. Lets also say you don't play Computer games, but work with Hi-end audio/video/multimedia.... If this is you, the OSX.2 is for you.

b.) Lets say your on a tight budget, or you want to play computer games, or highend audio/video/multimedia isn't necessarally your cup of tea.... If this is you, the XP OS is for you.

(These's are just my personal opinions as I see it...)

I beg to differ... sure, Mac hardware is, for the most part, much more expensive than PC counterparts. However, take Apple's new iBooks for example: Apple laptops for $999... can't beat that with a big fat stick. :D

Now, your decision is really based on a lot of things, so I need a little more info here.

Also, take note that Macs are not just for multimedia work... I use my Mac for word processing, Internet, email, music, and the basic things that computers are supposed to do, and it does it all great. In fact, Microsoft itself has stated that Office for OSX is better than the Windows counterpart.

I can give you all the information that you'd ever want on OSX, but you'll need to set some perimeters first. ;)

Ah man, I always forget about those little buggers..., and do they run OSX.2? :D

Yup-- in fact, my iBook came with[/b] OSX 10.2. :) All Apple Computers made after the time of the beige G3 support OSX, and I think that people with beige G3s can do so if they make some kind of hardware upgrade (I think it's the video card).

Sure enough.... :) 12.1" TFT though..., ouch. Made for them young eyes...:)

You could always opt for a 14", but at that point one might as well buy a PowerBook!

Actually, even my young eyes have trouble handling it (just ask neon_duke... I complain all the time). I've used a few tricks though... for example, I have my web browser set to display 18pt. font, so it's always easy to read web pages (and if their built in CSS states otherwise, I can just hit "Cmnd"+"=" a couple times)... also, I've installed a little bit of freeware that allows me to set the system font (which I've upped to 14pts.). Also, all of my Word documents are set to 150%.

It's all gewd. :D
