hey guys i have just bought my new computer over the christmas holidays. With this it came with of course Windows 7 but is it all that??. people like me including my sister thinks XP was the best and classic. it turns out to be Windows 7 was even more complicated than XP.....

oh well gotta get used to it

My question is what do people think of Windows 7 compared to XP?? 💡

This kinda belongs in the computing forum, but whatevs.

I'm quite happy with it to be honest. I'm more interested in whether or not it works than whether 'it's all that' or not. And so far it seems to be fine.

Complicated in what sense? Different, yes. More configurable, yes. More complicated? Hmm, not so sure about that one. As OSes evolve it's kinda expected that they're going to... y'know, change. Personally I think it's for the better.

Now you're only a year and a half late, so that's progress.

It would seriously be in your best interest to start searching, or at the very least start threads in the correct section.

I've only had it for a couple days but it's a huge improvement over Vista. I really like the way you can pin a program to the task bar and the only thing you see when the program is open is the icon only highlighted.

You see, the way taskbar is collected in Win 7 is quite simple and creative. I really love Win 7's beauty on Aero interface (even I rarely used Vista before), but I prefer use XP to explore my computer and for software support. There's still some softwares that have not realized we are in Win 7 era.

I only wish the windows bar could of stayed the same as it always was. In Windows 7 it's annoying for me to only see an icon of my program and no text to tell me what it is. I'm just not the fancy type who likes the Areo theme and I do like the transparency. I only want it to be more simple and to the point.

You can easily change that. :)

I recently took the plunge and upgraded to Windows 7. I'm glad I did, and the fears I had about compatibility, have so far not manifested themselves - I can still run the same programs I used before I upgraded.

If you get Windows 7 Professional, you can run Windows XP programs seamlessly within Windows 7 using XP mode and Virtual PC.

If you haven't got the Professional edition, you can always download Sun's excellent Virtualbox its free, runs seemlessly like XP mode, and works flawlessly on Windows 7 (you do need a copy of Windows XP to use this, but that shouldn't be a problem).

Even if you have neither, Windows 7 has a comprehensive compatibility mode that should run the vast majority of software that you will use.

I'm currently running Windows XP SP3 through XP Mode, and Ubuntu Server 9.10 through Virtualbox with no problems whatsoever. 👍

i love win7,but answer to your question is:
for newcomers no
for experience people : maybe, sometimes i need to look longer to find things that before i knew where they were. but that makes an new os funny and interesting. but all in all it's super simple win7 and concepted for "stupid" constumers (non techy people like parents).

it maybe so easy because of mac. Mac gained a lot of market this last years (i hate mac btw) because it's easy and uncomplicated to use. Windows was always for people who know what they do.

but good thing is mac is pushing technology. Exemple touch screen: gimmik before, now it will come in every tech piece

I've had Windows 7 since launch (running Professional 64bit) and I think its a excellent effort by MS. I would say its on par with XP in terms of stability and usability and I've had no problems so far. I think the multi touch stuff is slightly gimmicky though because most desktop users wont have the technology. Vista was horrendous, I never bought it but even using it for a few days on a friends laptop was enough!

Robin.

For me, Windows 7 is a good stable OS, even though i still prefer XP. Microsoft have used idea's from the Mac OS X such as the Dock like task-bar and other features which make using Windows 7 seem like an awesome experience!

👍 Nice recommendation. Except my PC aren't quite healthy yet to install any softwares, for now.

Microsoft always used Apple's Mac ideas and copied it as a Windows (well, not always), since the first Windows ever came in market.

Companies will steal everything that isn't patented and even then they will still try to.

I dunno, after messing with Windows 7 on my new laptop for a few days, it seems plenty simple to use...
Although some things did take a while to find, given I just stepped up from XP lol...

I stepped up from windows XP to 7 on all of my computers, there was no going back. I am on it right now with my laptop, after a week or two it basically feels normal, I know where everything is and it doesnt run badly at all. This laptop is around 5 years old, 1.6ghz pentium M, 500mb ram, 32mb video and the whole lot is running at a mostly fine speed. I am impressed with it and I will definitely not go back to XP, even my school will be upgrading 1000 computers to windows 7 for us.

I too am running the 64bit proffessional edition of Windows 7, and I agree, it is an excellent effort by MS. I was so impressed, that I actually went out and brought it from the store! 👍

 I dunno what is wrong with me, my last two OSs have both been legit!

I'm surprised it runs on that.
